A safer way to commission artists
We are currently beta testing a feature introduced by Discord employees. This feature is in few select servers which aims to collect feedback and improve the feature further.

Introducing Passport Verification
Passport verification means you need to verify using third party connection in order to access specific channels.
Our current verification method is Paypal.
The current way to verify are based on 2 conditions:

• to have verified status in your paypal account
• account age minimum 30 days.

Why have passport verification?
Having passport verification would minimize the amount of scams that occurs frequently on this type of platform. This will give our users another safety layer that can address their concerns of scammers.

Where can I access these channels?
We have a dedicated category with related channels located above Custom requests category.
But I will list it here for faster access:

#discussion [Intended for users to discuss commissions among buyers and artists. Provide feedback about passport role. This channel is being read/responded actively by Discord employees].

What will happend with the old paid request system?
Nothing will happend to it. We are merely offering 2 options to our buyers/clients when it comes to sending paid request message. 1 is safer than the other, but ultimately, the users will choose which channel(can send both) to send paid requests.

Passport feedback

The benefits of Passport are designed to help bring more trust from user-to-user. Having a Passport verified badge helps keep our community safe from scams between members interacting with each other in our marketplace.

Connecting Passport means you will be able to view other Passport profiles easily at a glance, including being able to see when another member joined Discord and when they joined our server.

So if you haven't already, please take a moment to check your user settings and confirm your Passport connections!

Important PayPal Passport reminders:

1. you can choose to hide your PayPal connection completely (toggle the “display on profile”) or just hide your account details (toggle the “display account info on passport”) in your Passport profile

2. PayPal info is stored on Discord only for display purposes (NOT for payment authorizations on Discord) and you can delete these records from Discord's database at any time.

To mitigate this type of raid attack we are now using a dedicated raid bot that will prevent these type of issues in future.

Our beta access to the Passport feature is here to improve safety and increase trust across our community. For an example, did you know that members who set up Passport connections see a 15% higher response rate to DMs than people without any verified connections?

So moving forward, be sure to check out other members’ Passport profiles to learn more about them! This is great before buying / trading / selling with new people, or just getting to know them better.

To do this - simply click on a user’s name anywhere in the server, and select “View Passport” to check out their verified connections.

For people in a Passport-gated channel with verified roles - you’ll also now see a new visual icon next to your name to showcase your connection status and let people know you’re legit.

Click on the icon to see what criteria that user met to earn a specific role, or check out their full Passport by selecting “view all”.

Pinging real quick with some scam info! There is a new skin of the ‘cheque bouncing’ scam going around, where someone seems to be interested in commissioning you tries to offer to pay with an e-check. If you spot it, please report the user to Mod Mail, and do not engage with them.

The user will tell you that they have been having issues with PayPal or some other payment platform, and then explain that they cannot send checks for less than a really high amount; for example, they cannot send checks for less than $900. They will then offer to send you a check for a high amount and then ask you to cash the check and send back the difference owed.
When you cash the check, you will get a chargeback from your bank because the check is fake, and then the scammer will be able to cash the check you sent them, so you are out of hundreds of dollars and the scammer gets free money out of you.

If someone tries to scam you, report them to Mod Mail so we can ban them. Thanks!

We are officially banning AI art for being transmitted, distributed and transacted in any shape of form. This has been updated in #📜・rules with a revision notes to reflect the amended rule changes.
Breaking our new rule will lead to 1 warning only and repeat offenders will get a ban.

Thank you for participating the survey. We will continue to listen to your suggestions and will setup a public feedback system next week.

We have enforced our 3 image limits in each respective channels under the category "Commissions" and "Promotion".
If any of users messages exceeds 3 images, their message will get deleted.

We have always have the 3 images limit but only recently implemented actual enforcement.

However, I failed to make an announcement of our official image limit enforcement and I apologize for this negligence.

Paid request is currently missing the features to close their own paid request messages. The issue was when i recoded the bot to use a new library, i did not include those features. I will readd it ASAP when im back from work.

Paid request bot has been fixed and reqester can close/fulfill their message.

New feature, As a paid requester, you now have the ability to close (delete) your paid requests message.

Fulfilled button has been readded. It will simply cross your paid request message.

The major feature to the bot is addition of having the ability to edit your paid request message. These 3 buttons will appear in #📌・paid-request . This channel is now publicly available to all users to allow the requester to edit their own message.
I introduced these buttons in the channel #📌・paid-request mainly because some users are still disabling their DM by default which means they didn't have the ability to change the status of their message.
Note: Only the original submitter has the permission to access the button functions for their own paid message and no one else.

Good to know
We would like to remind/inform users that we have review system utilizing this paid request system.
When any users send a paid request form, it will be sent for review where staff will review the content in order to ensure the message comply to the server rules.
Users will get notified when their paid request message gets approved or not. If approved, it will be published in #📌・paid-request

Please be aware of anyone asking for money before you can get paid such as money that, "can't be credited to your account". This has been a scam going around on Instagram targeting artists, so be aware of it and other scams on other platforms as well.

Mods make sure the server is a safe environment for everyone in the community, from artists, to art enjoyers and buyers. If accepted, you will trained in a trial run of the role. We will be contacting potential trial mods through modmail, so please make sure your DMs are open to server members if you submit an application. You will become familiar with server rules and how infractions are handled, and how Modmail and our reporting system works by the end of your trial. We are looking for those who are at least 18 years of age, can communicate in English, and can commit around an hour a day to the role.

on a related note: based on the scam reports we have received to date, the vast majority of scam victims are artists who did not take some form of prepayment before sending the work; if you work under this category please consider taking prepayment as part of your commission process, whether it's 100%, 50/50, or any percentage in between.

Hey @everyone! with the new years around the corner and some procrastination I have several things to announce!

• **We'll be increasing the server minimum to 15 USD starting in the 2024 calendar year. **
• There will be a two week grace period: infractions will be given verbal warnings instead of command warnings, but repeat offenders will be given command warnings. After this grace period is over (January 14th 2024), infractions will be given command warnings.
• An updated visibility system for paid requests is being tested to better protect buyers; there may be more iterations but an update should be out soon.
• An enforcement update to #commission-rules 4.1.1 : to anyone advertising on the server, you must have a terms of service listed or your post will be removed. requirements are listed in the clause, so if you need a refresher please read it again.
• There will be a two week grace period for this update as well.

if you are approached by someone (an individual or a "company") online who offers a position on their team/project, please be wary of a possible scam. recruitment posts such as "retweet/repost / comment / follow to join our project" are almost always a scam from someone looking to exploit you for free work. if someone is promising professional projects with long-term employment, they should have no problem backing the claim up by proof & certificates. additionally - do not start any work before payment was agreed upon & delivered at least partially. always lay down strict & clear terms of services, especially for bigger projects.

be wary of projects that promise too much and seem too good to be true, they likely are. never work for free & never let yourself be led on by promises of "professional recommendation" or "a good review". reviews and recommendations do not pay bills, money does.

This has been implemented since January 2024.

We talked it out more with VGen mods, and we have confirmed that there is no need to worry about trading away VGen codes to other people with the Artist role (or above), because those users are already screened enough to pass VGen's standard of trustworthiness. So we will be enforcing this rule only in channels that do not require the Artist role for access.
Reminder, though, that VGen does not allow you to trade for codes! They are supposed to be simply given.

Good Afternoon!

Yesterday, after meeting for several hours with Network Solutions (our domain registrar), they finally agreed to our demands to lock our account and revert changes made to our domain name’s NAMESERVER configuration. This lock also prevents anyone from signing in and making further changes. A fraud investigation has been launched on their part, and upon conclusion, our account will be fully released to us and we will receive more information on how this hijacking occurred. Our domain is directing traffic correctly.

While the bad actor was in control of our domain between Tuesday, August 20th at 12:47AM ET and Wednesday, August 21st at 2:28PM ET, they redirected our traffic to other websites and they set up an email server to receive any emails that were sent to any of our @furaffinity.net accounts. If you sent any emails to our @furaffinity.net accounts during that time, then the bad actor has those emails, we did not receive them, and you should act appropriately to secure and protect your information. Furthermore, any emails sent from @furaffinity.net during that time would have been sent by the bad actor and should not be trusted. The bad actor never had access to our actual email accounts, any previous emails, nor data we have previously received.

It is important to stress that the Fur Affinity web server itself was never compromised, and the bad actor never had access to any private information therein such as our user and server data (It's as if someone stole your home address and had your mail and visitors routed somewhere else. Your house and everything inside is fine, only the address and incoming/outgoing mail were affected). As a precautionary measure during the incident, we invalidated all current login sessions and you will need to log back into your account.

✨🌟🎉 FUR AFFINITY IS NOW ONLINE AND MAY BE ACCESSED SAFELY! 🎉🌟✨

Furthermore, as of last night (August 21st at 9:53PM ET), we have regained access to our Twitter account, and with the help of Whanos (@KernelJunkie), reclaimed our username (@FurAffinity). And as of this morning (August 22nd at 10:45AM ET), we also secured Dragoneer's personal Twitter account.

We have also been made aware of various sources claiming to have identified the bad actor responsible for this attack. We have no way to verify that these accusations are accurate, but will continue to share all information with the FBI. With that said, we want to remind everyone that we have a zero-tolerance policy toward harassment, no matter the circumstances. Recently, there have been instances where speculation has led to individuals being harassed, even if they have no proven connection to the incident.

It is important to note that Fur Affinity, with direct insight into the situation, has not conducted its own investigation. We are leaving that responsibility to law enforcement. Speculation only spreads misinformation and causes harm, so please be cautious about what you share or believe online.

We kindly urge everyone to avoid engaging in further speculation or harassment. It is the role of law enforcement to determine the facts and make decisions, not ours.

We are opening volunteer staff applications. Before applying, carefully read through all of the responsibilities and requirements to make sure you are eligible for these positions. For any questions, reach out to @plush idol!

Basic requirements for all positions:

Upcoming server changes

Hello, everyone! For a while, staff has been discussing the improvement of Art Commissions server environment. After reviewing our options and placing final decisions, here are some of updates coming to the server.

1) A proper verification system 🔍

While we understand this will not eliminate all of the bots and scammers, it will serve as a sufficient way of getting rid of simpler threats. Fewer headaches to our moderation team and chatters, yay!

How will it work?

• Upon joining the server, users will be restricted from viewing the server, except the rules and faq channels. They will be required to read through the rules channel and confirm that they understand and accept the terms, after which several separator roles will appear on their profile, that, in this case, act as a "verified" role.
• Older users will also have to go through this process.

2) Server role restructure 🚧

This will primarily affect everyone who is currently advertising commissions with only an Artist role.

• Users will no longer have access to our Commissions and Promotions categories. This was decided due to overwhelming amounts of posts violating the server Commission Rules; displayed prices being below the server minimum (15 USD), no visible Terms of Services or no commission offers anywhere in the post.
• Artist role will remain a regular "verified artist" role; informs others that the user has successfully been verified by staff. that allows access to artist-chat and lounge (like it did before) and also grant image perms to majority of Art Share and General channels.
• Application process will stay the same.

• Users with Art Seller role will now be the ones to get access to advertising channels, which is why we are slightly altering the application process:
• Applicants will be required to provide their commission sheets with up-to-date prices, that you will be advertising on this server, together with their Terms of Services. Staff will review if everything meets the criteria; prices meet the minimum and Terms of Services are sufficient enough.
• Art Seller role will no longer require users to have past commission experience, however, if the applicant wants, additional proof of successfully completed commission are always welcome!

Keep in mind! Artist role is still mandatory to apply for an Art Seller role.

Other roles (Trusted roles, Art Buyer role, NSFW art role)

• At the moment, other roles are not planned to go through a major change.

3) @plush idol quarantine dates ⌛

Due to changes in our application process for most commonly applied roles, we will be scheduling a quick clean up of existing tickets to prepare for upcoming wave of tickets. Hello everyone,

after receiving a lot of feedback several changes have been made, so make sure to check them out!

Changelog:

-several channels have been removed due to lack of content. Channels included are photography, lineart, traditional art as well as the AFK voice channel. Contents that previously belonged to specific channels may be posted in art-lounge instead.

• New channels have been added: daily drawing challenge, weekly drawing challenge and art contests where you can let fellow artists know about upcoming and/or ongoing contests.

Additionally, a new voice channel has been added in preparations for a tutoring program which will launch soon after our staff has worked out all necessary steps to ensure a successful start, so stay tuned!

Future changes:

-A validation procedure is underway to make it easier for artists and customers to avoid any danger of scams and create a stress free environment. This change will launch as a trial and follows a string of complaints from both artists and customers.

Art Seller- given to artists who are running active commissions.
How to get? Simply send an up to date commission sheet via dm
Available for Artist ONLY

Art buyer- given to members who are actively buying/ looking to buy art.
How to get? Need to have an active paypal account and a history of at least one successful commission purchase.

Note that both tags take priority over your current status! Art Seller > Artist, Art buyer> Member.

Verified Status
Verified status ( or "trusted") is given to artists and buyers who can provide proof for at least 5 successfully finished commissions from this server. Such can also include referrals through recommending the artist (and landing them a commission) to a friend who is not a server member.

I added Quality of Life changes for our voice chat channels.
Our text channel no-mic-vc will only be visible when you join any of our voice channels and when you leave the voice channel you will no longer see the no mic text channel anymore.

This is to prevent random users sending random message in no-mic text channels and interrupt your conversations.

If you join VC 1, our bot will give you a temporary role called VC 1 which grant you access to #no-mic-vc1 or if you join VC 2 you will instead get access to #no-mic-vc2 as long as you stay in the relevent voice channels.

You are now able to create your own private voice channel room.
When you join our channel Create Private Room,our bot will then create your own private room where no one are able to join your channel.

It will also create a secondary channel where you the private room owner have the exclusive control. If you wish to invite your friends to your private room, you need to tell them join the vc channel "Waiting to move[room owners username]" and the private room owner can drag you over to his private room.

Only artists/art buyer and above can view message history by default while regular members cant.

This is to prevent members with no artist role from accepting paid requests.
Whenever someone send a message in paid request channel, the bot will autoassign a role called "Paid request" which grant them access to view the message history by simply hitting ctrl+r

We use a bot that keep tracks of how often artists post in commission and promotion channels but because our bot dies too often, resulting in the slowmode getting reset every time, we see tons of artists taking advantage of this and reposting their commission service far too often.

Which is why we are now using a different bot so new slowmode starts now and you may get a DM from our bot. Its not an official warning so dont be alarm as its just a friendly DM notification that you are still within the slowmode period and need to wait before you can repost your commission service

Bot now auto react with ⭐ when users upload an attachment in #art-chat #🎨・art-gallery so you don't have to find the right emoji to do that.
This means if a message with attachment receives 5 stars, the bot will post it in #⭐・starboard

1. Retirement of the helper role

The helper role was established to enable members to directly ask volunteers for help related to art. However, the role has proven to be rather redundant despite member's efforts to establish a helper community. Therefore the role will be retired. We would like to thank everyone who volunteered to support the community

2. Commission rules

The commission rule channel will be updated to better reflect the community standards. This change should help finding information better and easier to understand. Furthermore, the change will include a streamlined TOS in regards to topics that keep being discussed. This refers mostly to NSFW, rev share and payments.

✨ V.14 Server QOL patch notes

1. Commissions and Custom Requests will receive a new category: Commercial

This implementation comes after several requests to add a separate channel for commercial work. The specific pricing will be adjusted based on data collected. The new channel will go active on friday. Cooldowns and server rules apply.

2. #art-chat and #art-feedback will be consolidated into a single channel.

This is due to both channels being used in the same way and therefore there's no need to keep them separated.

3. We added a new ruling to applications:

Role Applications must state whether their social media/commissions contain NSFW or not, otherwise we'll ignore the ticket and close it.

The same handling applies to all applications not being formatted properly.

Other changes

1. We added a new event category: Question of the day! Head over to #776960034214510664 to find out more

2. We're currently debating to add the following currency to our pricing list:

XP bot is dead due to discord stopped supporting gateway API v6 which bot uses to communicate to discord server. The developer of that bot also took a complete 180 direction which i cannot support. So we will be using a different bot which will be actively maintained by their developers. This unfortunately means that the progress you achieved have been lost permanently. We apologize for this.
We still believe that this is a neccesary transition since the older bot was outdated anyway.

The developers kindly offered to give the xp to specific users.
You won't receive the same exact amount of xp as those bots are completely different but I believe we can match the XP "migration" as close as possible.

Hello Hello one and all. No ping on this one cause we had a ping recently. With all the excitement of server price changes and being the resident sleepy writer admin, I thought I should bring up the writing prices and minimums. While my DMs are always open if I'm needed and such, I'd like to invite the writers of the server to chat with me and share their thoughts about the current minimums, should they be upped? Should the be lowered? Should it stay put? Should we require a purple dinosaur to be easter egged into all writing? I'd like to know

Currently for story writing, it's 30$ for 1k words, or about 3c a word. (Server minimums still apply) .
Obviously that doesn't cover all things out there such as editing, script writing, lyric writing, and things like that, nor does it translate well into other categories directly like poems.

So I'd love to gather server thoughts specifically about:

Current writing minimum
What the price for critiquing/ editing per word count (or project) should be.
Poem pricing
Lyric and Script Writing and how they'd compare to Story Writing.
Commercial prices related to writing.
Any other writing related topics that I may have missed.

Do keep in mind this is not a guarantee that things will change immediately nor will I be required to change them. This is getting info and feedback to hear properly from our writers on the server.

For example, If people tell me 5$ for 1k of writing it does not mean I'll implement that but I'll take their thoughts and opinions into consideration.

Also when you do message me, make sure you're mentioning you're writing about this. If I get random DM's saying "Writing prices suck, fix them you walking bamboo stick", I'm going to be more confused than anything.

NEVER send any works without getting paid FIRST.

We keep stressing this since the dawn of time and we still receive countless reports of artists getting ghosted after sending sketches.

How can you prevent this from happening?

1. Write a proper TOS (terms of service) which every buyer will have to read and sign before you start ANY work. Feel free to ask #help-chat if you're not sure how to write one.

2. Take payment up front
Never, and we can't stress this enough, accept payment only AFTER the work is done. Either do not accept work without upfront payment or take 50/50 at the beginning and end of work.

3. If you're not sure if a buyer could be a potential scammer, send a report to modmail and we'll look into the member for you.

We're getting reports of people trying to impersonate staff and ask for login information.
1 Impersonating us is dumb as we have literally 0 reason to ever need your account information
2 Our staff list isn't big, we sure as hell don't have a trust and safety team nor do we pro actively send out random DMs seeing if your account is compromised. If a random name DMs you, just check the staff on the side, or ask a staff if X or Y person is a staff member. It's a two second check.
3 Even if for some reason on some parallel universe that happened, again, DMing you for information on an account suspected of being compromised makes no sense and you shouldn't give it out.

You must now ping <@&864065839842066452> at any time for any reasons. Although I suggest you use common sense when you ping this role and ping when you think it requires moderators immediate attention.

Sometimes just posting #⚔️・report-issues-here may just be enough.

It was something given out for free and you cannot turn it around and try to buy something with it for the full value.
This is a similar to our rulings to steam game codes.

Now that I'm finally home, I also wanted to say some things.

I'm aware there are plenty of server members out there who may have feedback, ideas, suggestions and concerns regarding the server, however they either don't trust staff to tell us directly or think forms like above get ignored and swept under the rug.

I can't magically make those trust issues go away, you're free to have your concerns and worry about bringing things up, but I wanted to offer up a hand.

I've tried in the past but I wanted to make it especially clear now more than ever; if you ever have any concerns, or suggestions, or worries about how the server is run, you can bring them directly to me. Should you wish, (and this will be the default way I handle this unless told otherwise) you'll be kept completely confidential. We can talk through the suggestions you bring up to make sure they're properly understood, any missing details are fleshed out, and to make sure said ideas aren't messed up like a game of telephone and I can present them to the rest of staff to be discussed.

Should you still not feel comfortable and you have a group of friends who all share a concern, you're welcome to compile your ideas and suggestions into a list and have someone bring them forward in your groups stead.

I know people have issues with staff, especially admins, but this is my genuine attempt to try and hear out people while making their thoughts and voices heard. Things need serious updating, things need to be addressed, and I want to help make sure as much gets addressed as possible. If there was ever a time to please try and have a level of trust and opening up about issues, now is the time.

And should you be concerned You are not going to be banned, punished or anything of the sort for bringing me suggestions, concerns, and the like to me. I know talking to people like admins is intimidating, especially when it comes to criticizing said staff. I'm here, always will be, and I want people to feel they can comfortably bring things up to at least someone in staff. The rest of staff are also approachable just as much as I am. We’re here to hear you out.

While we understand that lower budgeted requests can be frustrating for artists, pinging and inciting mob mentality towards the buyer is never justified. If a request is set for a budget below yours, ignore it. If a paid request is grossly underpaid for what's asked for- report it to #⚔️・report-issues-here.
Complaining is okay, passive- aggressive harassment is not.

We urge all artists involved to reflect on the fact that they too, priced themselves below our minimum for various offers before we enforced a higher standard. Effective essentially immediately, I'll be stepping down as an Admin of the server.

It's been a crazy ride since this server was set up 5 years ago and a lot has happened. This server has been a big part of my life for the past few years and there's been a lot of great memories.
