I can hear anything EXCEPT for things such as: Artyom using a medkit, ||artyom punching the dog in the very early stages.|| Is this intentional? It feels slightly empty.

check the Audio settings, maybe the sound effects valume is off

If you do, have you tried verifying game files? And of course, trying what KoenigOne suggested, checking audio settings.
