I am not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask, but was wondering if anyone might have a recommendation on an easy to follow build-guide for the new patch tomorrow? I've looked at a few builds but it looks like you need to be very knowledgeable about crafting/end-game in order to make them really work and I don't have that knowledge yet. Just want to jump in once the patch drops tomorrow and have some fun without having to spend dozens of hours trying to learn how to craft a single item.

The patch notes will help you understand how these builds are impacted once they're released - sentinel seems to receive changes to the tree.
I always struggle with choosing a build because I am more or less helpless without a guide
A first step to making your own build is deciding "which skills can I scale together" and "what defense do I want".
This way you'll find that, for example, the acolyte has Spirit Plague and Drain Life, both of which are necrotic damage over time.
Great, you can scale those with a variety of item mods!
Infernal Shade, however, is fire damage over time. You would leave it out of your build because using it will drastically reduce the amount of useful item mods/bases for you.
tbh, i dont think i will ever have the mental capacity to be good at making a build. it's one of the main reasons i quit MTG, i will never be able to remember every card that i could be going against
i know LE is supposed to be more approachable, but i've been trained to feel like anything that isnt top tier isnt worth the time and thats a hard mindset to break

when you use a skill that feels good, put it in your build
all you need to do
maybe it's subjective, but the fact that builds are broken out by S/A/B tiers makes me feel like S tier is the only thing i want to look at
i mean, the top tier build thsi patch is from a broken mechanic
if you want to play the best, all you're going tobe doing is playing stuff that isnt intended
Are you having fun? Then do that. Are you not? Look for different things to do to have fun.
everything in the game currently can be done with basically any build
unless you're planning to push arena really far, or push to 500 corruption or more, you'refine
infernal shade can get through empowered monos
Infernal Shades best use is slapped on a solo minion usually
otherwise its just a much worse spirit plague
i just dont recognize synergies/interactions very well so it feels 'easier' to let someone else who's smarter spend the time identifying those interactions and i can spend more time just playing and trying to get the items needed
the game doesnt makeit hard to have synergy is the thing
if you use a skill and go 'oh that feels really fun' you jus thave to hover over the tooltip and look at its tags
any other skills that share any of those tags, that's a synergy
interesting, maybe i will just wing it with a new char tomorrow
you dont have to look at any numbers for anything honestly, and if you decide to fine tune and optimise what you've ended up with, well if you've played with those skills yourself a bunch (so probably clicked on various nodes in the skill tree) you'll have a much better sense of it, without haviing to have done anything but play the game
I definititely get the mentality and feeling of wanting a guide, especially because of how other arpg's have been designed, but Last Epoch really does do an awful lot to make it very intuitive and simple to put something together
you dont need to think about much at all to do it
The hardest part is picking what you want to be your main damaging skill xD
i guess the other side of it is having the knowledge of what items can do, like what uniques can help or what stats are actually possible etc.

Then if you search for something you think would be neat for your build (say you're doing a physical thing, search physical) you can then just look at uniques that do something with physical

yeah going sentinel definitely seems good
they'll be a lot of people trying out various sentiniel things, so you'll easily be able to get answers

last time it was the day before, and everyone was very happy about it, so i think the gneral expectation is we get them today. But obviously anything could happen that delays them to tommorow closer to the patch
cant really do patch notes until the patch is finalised, so it probably puts a bit of pressure on them getting the patch ready; or at least having every change done/decided

If I used the loot filter from this guide to level a new Paladin with Javelin, is there any chance the loot filter will hide things I want that are new with the patch?
If the answer is yes, could anyone suggest a generic sort of filter? Or should I just go without a filter
There's definitely a risk with using old filters in a new patch, especially if it's built around the paradigm of "Hide everything, then show what you want", because the new stuff are unlikely to be included in the existing show rules
I'd personally just go for a very simple filter to start with, just hiding things you definitely don't want, while waiting for someone to make you a specific one

the hard part is i dont know what my character will want so selecting affixes and such will be a challenge cause a lot of these terms are still foreign to me
hello friends i am curious as to how item changes go through after patch
if an item will no longer be able to roll an affix next patch
what happens to my current item that is already crafted
It normally keeps the affix, but it can vary depending on the specific change. Did you have a particular item in mind?
im not sure im having a hard time searching the patch notes for key words again
but something simple like health regeneration on a helmet i think wass a change?
if not exactly that then something like it
as in not an affix that no longer exists like the mana gained on smite use will be changed
If it's an affix that still exists then by default it'll still be on the item. There are some changes where we override that and force it to change to a different affix because it keeping it would have been particularly OP, but that's fairly rare.

yeah after watching a couple videos on filters now i dont think i have the knowledge of what's common/uncommon or useful/not useful, but i will see if i can tinker with a filter tonight or in the morning before the patch drops. may just have to spend an hour looking at every drop for awhile 😄

The patch will introduce new items and affixes that current filters won't know about. The filters will more than likely still work, but will be missing the new affixes/base items.
this will essentially be the first new patch i've played, i only have about 5-8 hours in the game so i essentially know nothing and creating a good filter requires a fair bit of game knowledge

in the new beginning i was collecting ALL stuff what could usefull for the char .. i learned rather fast . that was not gona work with the limits of the chest

but lucky i know a phew filters how to set it .. i know i be making sure all the +skills to all class skills will be there ,., and hope i find enough runes to add the runes to my skills .. i remember that was mos of my newby money sink.. those runes to get a steady supply of pre/affixes

higher tier is better stats aswell higher lvl required .. to have or even make ..

yeah , TQ and GD and d3 and ( yack , PoE ) i wanted a new thingy to .. van helsing and wolcen are decent too
but in TQ i played so many of the workshop mods so got like 40-50 masteries to play with if i want
i found wolcen to be way more fun than people said, but making builds is hard
yup traving the story once is fun ,, rebuilding the city ,, well .. not as much .. but some people live for that kinda action ..
i even found logn joy in rogue empire .. with the 2 newest classes it is/ was very fun .. i still got in on my main screen

no, you need to do some side quests (At least this is true as of now, patch comes out in 15 hours and 27 minutes, and that might change it)

This is still the case, but there will be more side quests that reward idol slots in chapter 9, and the total number you need to complete hasn't changed, so before you could only skip 1 idol quest, but now you can skip 4 of them.
I had no idea some were skipable. I usually don't even pay attention to the quests or rewards and just do them.

Your ward (gained or else) will always take damage before health from bleed.

Was the notes weirdly worded, or did I understood this correctly: it read that basically all weapon bases got new implicits, but that feels like a huge shake-up, no? Or is "new implicits" a catch-all terms that also covers small nerfs/buffs to current implicits?
Guess I'm just a tad worried over potentially loggin in tonight with weapons which are now trash due to new (?) implicits
It is a huge shakeup, though when they reworked swords it was essentially a huge buff to the class overall. You might find that your current axe doesn't fit your build anymore, which is unfortunate, but in the long term it will make axes much more interesting (and any other classes they are changing)

It's not (IMO) a huge shake up, they've reworked a few base types (wands, 1h axes, 2h axes from memory).

Let me rephrase the question, how reliable is tooltip DPS in LE? Is it like other arpgs where it doesnt represent your true damage?
It's not really an accurate representation, there are lots of things it doesn't consider, but better than nothing
i want the wider hitbox for bow attacks.. sometimes i aim at enemies and the arrows go somewhere else like wtf xD
It's intended to help you see the impact of changing gear, not as an accurate counter for your dps in the wild (since it can't take into account AoE or any of the conditional effects, or the damage reduction mobs get based on level).
Ok that's almost exactly what I wanted to know, I usually use something like tooltip dps as an indicator of whether or not a gear swap is worthwhile
i think it's being fixed in the 0.83 patch

i use the flurry of the bow as a mini gun .. spray and pray .. atleast in the channel version
how does the paladin holy aura passive nodes work ? are they active only when you activate the aura or are they always affecting the player
They are active by default and then get more powerful when you activate holy aura.

seems pretty nice for multiplayer synergies, hopefully the warlock has some type of "aura" that debuff enemies as a curse or something
hello, why i reset skilll points i get less points than before reset it how to get them more later? to dont be with lower points to rest of game
you receive part of your skill points and you have to relevel the others, but faster than the first time
at the end you'll have the right number of points

You never lose passive points, for skill leveling you'll have to relevel but that's fairly quick. Your maximum skill level is gated by your character level, once you hit the point where you are maxed out (20 skill level available) it doesn't take long.
Seeing as they baked the other auras that didn’t have trees into the passive trees I doubt we will see more anytime@soon

Every class has some DoT capabilities. Maybe you'd like to try an Lich? Who knows... There is no ETA on the Warlock, Falconer, or Runemaster

You were probably at the max number of passive points from quest rewards already.

Known bug that during the quest The Immortal Citadel, the bosses (Harton and Zerrick) disappear? I could kill one of them while invisible but the other one was just gone. Couldn't finish the quest of course. I killed Yulia first. I wonder if the Harpoon Shot node from Ballista is what messes it up.

Maybe it's a compound skill (like Tempest Strike) & the movement bit doesn't get echoed but the swing does.
I'm not sure there's any benefit to cleave having the movement tag outside of the passive node that reduces movement cooldown
My very initial hot take, is that void cleave is basically going to be hated by most people, because its going to be very strong, but also very awkward
I find it great and not awkward at all
it has two part of its skill tree dedicated to spells
and you cant use a staff with it
its the definition of awkward

Well when I think of cleave, I think of something splitting something in half via a sharp blade. i.e. axe or sword. hence hammer isn't available. it's blunt like a staff would be. so I can see the reasoning thematically. but i also agree with Claire that it seems odd half the tree scales/gives bonuses through something 2h swords and axes don't have
gameplay and mechanics should always come over theme and flavour imo
i imagine the choice is to do with some balance stuff

If the added damage is applied to the attack, it's converted to lightning.
Added melee void is not converted (except for the polearm case) because it's melee and therefor not applying to Javelin
Added throwing void is applied, because it's a throwing attack

If you pick the Divine Throws node, then you want ANY added damage of ANY type, as long as it applies to Javelin. Melee damage only applies if you use a polearm. With Divine Throws, only Increased Lightning Damage works, increased fire/void/etc won't do anything

i'm just saying that if i pick Forge Guard and use Forge Strike, then the affixes on my Javelin should have added fire damage so that then I can also scale up some base on a Forge Guard skill

In isolation, it doesn't matter what damage you add to Javelin, it's all lightning in the end if you use that node
But if you want to scale Forge Strike too, then you want to use fire probably

now that i'm looking at it, it makes more sense to play paladin

I'm having an issue where items drop but they don't show up to be picked up, and a boss dropped a unique just now so is there a way to fix this without restarting?

In PoE, if you have 100 phys and convert 100% to lightning, then 10% inc phys damage will result in having 110 final lightning damage

Are forged weapon bonuses global, unlike fire aura there is no mention, say if I use warpath to generate weapons, do they get the added bonuses for forged weapons from the forge strike tree? Sorta similar to how fire aura can globally do more damage with flame wards tree regardless of where you get the auras.
Edit: to clarify well forged weapons in forge strike states "Weapons created by forge strike" all the other nodes simply state "Forged weapons"

If you set up a loot filter for a specific item, say gloves, will the affixes available in the affix section only be limited to what can actually roll on gloves, or is everything listed and you have to know what can actually roll on them?
the 2nd one but that has been a highly requested QOL
ok, is there a tool/website that shows what affixes are available on each item slot so I can avoid adding affixes that can never roll on an item?

I'd like to buy a game. However, I am concerned about the system requirements. Because my computer is a toaster. :p Would it be enough if the Path of Exile worked well?
Is there some kind of penalty for being overleveled or anything? Is there a "sweet spot" for how many levels to be above/below the area level?
There is a soft cap on how much you gain xp from monster above your lvl, otherwhise I don't think there is a penalty for being over level. I would think that farming the highest lvl area would get you more xp
ok, im just 4-5 levels overleveled during the chapters right now and wondered if i should try to just speed it up instead of exploring every area
You can speed up :) it also depends on how much dps/defenses you have, if you feel like it's enough, just speed it up a bit
i just wasnt sure if there was any incentive to explore instead of rushing
It's not like poe where you have to get into a certain rrange of lvl
Side quest are something like an incentive to explore i guess, as you can skip them and do them later
yeah i just didnt know if there was anything "hidden" to find like an unlockable pet or something
There are some small easter eggs in the campaign, also there are 3 uniques exclusives to side quest/boss. But maybe some hidden stuff i'm not aware of are still undiscovered to this day
I remember the devs talking about it before
either way im having a blast, this is the best time when everything is still new and exciting and gives you a sense of discovery

how do I go into details of a tooltip that is underlined in a skill tree. For example, Concentrated Aura is a white underlined keyword but I can't seem to hover over it without losing the popup that displays it.

hmm, for me, ctrl + alt doesnt do anything. I don't have judgment specced. Alt brings up tooltips/more info like normal. Ctrl + alt doesnt seem to have any effect on other skills

I cant get my controller to work on the x-axis. can only move up and down. Tried to assign the movement to left stick but it doesn't allow me to. Worked the last time ive play. Resetted the controls to default but no satisfaction. Any ideas please?

From what I understand theres a specific echo reward for it
so you do the echo that has that reward, and then when you click on the chest after doing it, you get a unique or set item of the type that timeline has

welp, majasa may make me quit before i even get to the endgame
i think she just need to drop more potions, the hard part of the fight is long term sustain imo
dont see how i can ever beat it, 10-15 minutes fighting her and dying to have to restart the entire thing is kind of lame

I beat her on a new character with a makeshift build I made with 0 poison resistance D: not saying it was easy or that I didn't die. just had to actually learn her attacks and how to dodge them

The problem is not being surrounded by enemies
i know how to dodge her attacks, but my damage is too low and making 1 mistake is instant death.
it's that, 2v1, voidforms kill me by just swinging at me
a voidform deals ~70 damage per hit, i have 320 hp

and perhaps craft some hp gear
try to hit atlease twice as what you have now
it's act 2 or so, with the Void Amalgamation
The voidform can be kited away from the lightning spikes. It's just a matter of taking pauses fighting the add and bashing the Amalgamation
i am not bashing the amalgamation, the adds just kill me
i am not getting hit by any of the boss's attacks whatsoever
I'm implying that you should focus on the voidform, it's kinda rippy without high void res
i have 45% void res
then tank up a bit, get some defenses (armor/dodge/whatever), you should be able to take the worm down and hit the boss, before he summons another one
or better yet, damage
if you completed the Erza's Ledger sidequest and got Gambler's Fallacy from the Gambler, equip it for guaranteed crits every 4s

Well yes. Common items have zero affixes, magic have 1-2 affixes, and rare have 3-4 affixes. But exalted items can have 1-4

it means not triggered
you directly cast any spell that you activate from your skill bar, but if it's triggered from another ability then you didn't cast it
Will healing hand be getting a skill tree? I have spec slot available but I can't spec into healing hand
On the majasa topic, I do think the bosses difficulty is a little bit overrated. Before this boss Lagon was the build checker, but that was literally just 'do yo uhave phys, lightning, cold capped. Can you move out of a really obvious one shot'. Whereas Majasa is 'Are all your res's capped, have you built around a damaging skill, do you have utlity in the form of cc or movement in your build, do you have enough hp and some forms of mitigation. Or do you understand the game enough to dodge everything you need to.'
It's definitely the hardest thing in the game yet I think (outside of scaling arena up really high). But it seems like its just designed to be 'gear up/fix your build' or 'dodge most of the things', instead of requiring both.
I do think the difficulty spike for all of act 9 is a bit rough, and it does kinda feel like you're meant to have more levels and gear than you get just rolling through to it, but it also has some very good maps for grinding.
maybe thats why it feels 'bad' to me. i was able to use my self-made dumpster build with relatively few deaths up until act 9 and then its just endless 1 shots even with capped res
The bosses aren't meant to be easy, hence they are the chapter's boss. Where you said that it is a test of whether you've built up cc/movement/res or around one certain dmg skill, I don't think that's necessary true, because I've beaten her playing with portion of my gear being low level and outdated with skills I just think could be in a good synergy, without following any online guides/builds. My res are around 30%.
She has some moves that are 1-shots, but her other moves aren't, and it has a pattern which can be learned relatively easy
@stiff stone I'd suggest for you to check if you've invested your passive and skill points in the right things (as in not going for all sides of the skill at once instead of maxing one side), and use some of the shards to buff your equipment with maybe leech on hit and movement speed
Never played a sentinel so i dont know about the individual skill trees that might support my playstyle. Which class would you recommend for an electrify javelin build?
The only skill that screams "im useful" is the paladins holy aura
Knowing whether or not the build you made uses the "right" things requires game knowledge that a new player doesn't have. It's the entire premise behind my discussion yesterday about why I never waste time trying to make my own build
I am also a new player, but I just follow my intuition and I try to build something of my own.. if it doesn't work, the game allows you to respec everything, and I'd switch to something else

Does anyone know why my filter doesn't show any idols at all? Just got an idol with % health % shared critical damage, I have both of those affixes enabled in my filter but the idol doesn't show up unless I disable the filter
Also all other items are filtered correctly, it's just idols that have this issue

How good is Sigil of Hope as a skill for health sustain? I'm about to get my 5th skill slot on my Paladin and I need something to help me regen hp

either it's general health regen or it's just using rebuke to make up whatever damage i just took
what skill?
I used sigil of hope and got the trigger on kill node, often had 4 sigils going without having to do anything so it's just free bonus
There are lots of sustain you can do with paladin all at the same time

so far i'm trying to make it just spamming the Javelin as much as possible with rebuke and lunge in between if necessary

rebuke is cool but if you have high block chance and heal on block then you have good sustain

rivvy you can still have rebuke on your bar for panic situations, you don't necessarily need smite or sigil on bar since you can use them on auto trigger
smite idols trigger on hit, so still works with bosses, while sigil triggers on kill which makes it kind of necessary to have on bar
yeah but i would want to scale smite for healing sooo
if i can have smite and sigil just auto heal me while throwing spears that seems pretty good to me
you can fit 4 smite idols, each with max chance of 9% trigger, and that's a fair amount of chance to trigger per hit
but remember, it also uses mana
so mana regen will be a must

I have a question. I speced my sorcerer's glacier into vortex, and it's fun, but I wonder if it's not too big point commitment for the result and if it wouldn't be better to specialize into raw damage/crits instead. Thoughts?
the vortexes are generally pretty weak
Anyone else regularly seeing null reference exceptions in the log when the game is started up? It still works, just kind of weird that I'm seeing 4-5 of these.
I noticed unfortunately, because they're cool. I would consider leaving them anyway, but they need A LOT of points to be invested. For the pay-off I think it should be less points for the same effects
I also went with Black Hole to group my enemies for Glacier, but I wonder if I should go with Ice Barrage for single target damage instead 🤔

Unique and Set items can no longer be obtained from the Gambler.

theres graphs out there to show how much mitigation you get from armor
so i dont need to do a load of math to work that out
-100 armor at area level 10, and -100 armor at area level 70 are different things?

but with new abysal echoes you can pretty easily build up 25 stacks with one cast

does this mean that if I were to wear an item with say 50% more ignite damage it'd apply it to time rot? Or is it only for this tree (warpath)
not sure how exactly to test it, but it does seem to not be triggered by the aura's kills

I have a blanket list of affixes and it's set to hide all except the ones w/ 2+ of the affxies

You could try with my rule at the top of the rules, it shouldn't affect your other rules because it is specific to relics

there is an effective cap, as the most increased damage you (or an enemy) can take from negative armor is 85%
but it is exceptionally hard to get that much shred

Well, so long as they have a single affix (based on the name of the rules) I'm not sure why they wouldn't given how your filter is setup

it's not the lvl 1-40 single affix
ALL idols are showing up
even with 0 / 36 affixes
Relics and Idols are different...
I don't think Idols are considered normal/magic/rare, they're just Idols
But I could be wrong, because they just added Unique Idols to the game.... so maybe they're changing that?

at endgame in the monolith system each monolith has a specific item type you can target in it
like boots, bows and quivers, gloves, etc

there was a bow called reign of winter that i was told drops in the age of winter, is that still correct or did it change this patch to go with the rest of the bows in fall of the outcasts ?

Could you tell me what do you think is better for freeze Sorcerer as a fifth skill - Ice Barrage or Black Hole? I don't know if in later stages of the game it'll be more useful to group enemies with black hole or to have additional single target sustained damage with Ice barrage

single target is definitely something you want to make sure you have addressed in a build
I use Glacier as both AoE and single target RN, just it's my first playthrough and I wonder if it'll work in post-game

I mean you can calculate crit yourself or use the spell crit already in the game. Like I said, they are going to add the stats you want eventually. It's an EA game
Yes you can do the math but everythign change every time you change your items
Tooltips should be a priority, most of people doesn't want to sit and theorycraft for hours every time they upgrade thier items or re-roll a different build.
Enyway thank you for the reply, i really hope they put this concern top priority for the health of the community because personally i don't wanna deal with all the math to theory craft a simple build, there is already alot to calculate and figure out, Crit and toolstips should be there ot help players to make and test the build.

what are monsters and bosses average resistances?
i am using static with unlimited power and i spec into lightning blast but it seems like the proc does chain or give me lightning aegis. So correct me if i am wrong but is the proc from unlimited power does use my lightning blast but a basic one ?

I'm guessing it wouldn't chain because the chain depends on repeated casts

Usually that's the case. If you feel like that's not the case, I'd ask in #👨┃ask-the-devs-not-support-no-bugs to see if this is intended behaviour. If they say it's a bug, you should post on the forums.
Never I think? It gets higher than 7, but I don't think it ever reaches 20.

If you want to get down to it there's no difference between anything, it's all about damaging and surviving to get big numbers so you can get bigger numbers
And life / eHP is nothing but how to survive bigger numbers
It's all about flavour and how you scale that flavour
The feel of things and your personal desire/inclination towards a certain flavour is what will determine what you'll play, and what you may be curious about
You could try mage and acolyte to get a feel on how they differ, see what tickles you fancy

The mage is more beginner friendly IMO since he receives high elemental resistances from the tree.

Usually if you dont get pen from tree you always want it on amu

Armor is completly different then res
For res i think pen and res shred just get added together
So if you have 10% pen and 5 stacks res shred on the boss you do 20% more damage
never mind dumb question just realized shred is a debuff on an enemy so it will always apply before any damage with pen comes in
The armor more and the (res shred + pen) more should be multiplicative
For hits obviously... dots do not scale with (negative) armor

@night elm Once you choose a mastery, that character will always be that
if you want to play a lich, you'll have to reroll another toon
every build can put in points into every mastery up to the ruler
but once you select a mastery (at lvl ~40) then that's it for that toon
Mastery is about lvl 25-30 😉

anyone else having issues casting rebuke on sentinel?
seems to happen mostly when I'm doing warpath and trying to chain into rebuke, the animation bugs out and I'm not sure it's casting probably

I think they changed how things are interrupted, so it might have broke the animation
so poison and crit builds do not mix well?
Damage over time is not affected by crits
So it depends on what you are trying to scale for damage
