There are several nodes in the passive tree that limit you to one companion
and some uniques as well
make sure you didn't take any of them

if you want to use more stuff there are options but you ll always have only 5 skills to cast, though you can trigger more

but as every other damage over time it has a fixed base dmg which can be increased by added dmg

cinder strike will do a fair bit more per ignite while puncture will apply like 4 or 5 more ignites per attack

The thing for ailments is, that duration/effect are both are unique groups of more multiplier and thus important for damage scaling
ignite for the most part is just not very good

Ignite abse dps is not that much wors than bleed. Just too few ways to scale it

If someone would try to consider splitting increases/more/... for attacks (no minions) into two distinct groups, would this work: [melee, spell, throwing attack, bow, generic] x [curse, dot, hit, generic] ? Generic would be a type applying to all other types in that group. I mean some of them currently do not exist to my knowledge, like (melee, dot) := 'increase to melee damage over time', but otherwise I currently cannot think of a modifier which must be applied to two different tuples/pairs at a time. It either applies to all in one group, i.e., to generic or only one of them. Is there anything I'm missing?

I’m curious how something like that will work for the trade economy when people might not really need gold, since it’s so easy to come by on your own and you don’t use it for anything besides tabs/respecs/gambling. would those really be driving factors in trading an item for gold?

It could be based around gold, shards, runes or anything which is not introduced yet.

That's different -- that's Shred, which is different from penetration. I'm unsure of the interaction between Shred effects and DoT effects.

Yes, using the community game guide to be sure Shred applies before resistances, and Penetration applies after resistances.
DoTs will take advantage of any appropriate shred stacks (& penetration if you have any of that) on the target.

Yeah, that ones kind of up in the air to me, as it isn't clear that that's what's happening -- for instance from the Build Planner discussion today in the Forums, it doesn't look like Shred applies to the damage calculation based on what Dammit was saying

Penetration and shred are definitely additive. They modify the enemies resistance and thus the damage reduction.
Take enemy resistance Y, apply reduction by shred to get Y=Y-S, take the minimum of 75 and Y: Y=min(75, Y). This is to account the fact, that shred refuces res before the cap. Now you substract penetration to get Y=Y-P.
This is your final value. Now your damage is multiplied by (1-Y) to get the resulting damage. If the final resistance is >0 your damage will be reduced. Otherwise increased.
Does freeze avoidance on frostbite stack?

i just wish the skilltree allowed for more customisation. more in the way i posted in #suggestions-and-like-to-see at one point. like allowing us to disable certain 2 of the 3 cascade sizes and give interesting modifiers to the one you leave intact.
I think the glacier tree is pretty old at this point, not sure that it has changed much in the last three years
yeah. i just think doing something along the lines i suggested would give the spell 3 new ways to build it and 3 new use cases.
giving each of the cascades their own identity if you choose to specialise in that cascade size.

yeah im not sure if they said it or not, but i can see them adding that option in the future
once you tighten up your loot filter, youll have that problem less
hope so, i cant always be bothered with checking loot, osmetimes i just wanna farm shards or idols
like making a rule for t4 or t5 only of the affix/affixes you want to shatter
its already tightened, but im also collecting items for shattering and actual gear for the build
but right now i desperately need idols so wanna farm them up as fast as i can and not bother with the resrt
im even stricter on that, i only shatter items with one t5 and at least a total of 8 affix levels
also a couple specific affixes at any level

the search is limited but you can use the base name like "oracle" to filter out specific types. You can use partial names of skills like mana r will find the mana regen nodes on them

but i dont always remember the wording on all the things i look for, it works for now, but again, just a QoL issue

I think at some point they just should provide a full regex search for item tooltips. Don't even know why it isn't there already.
It may not be simple for most people without knowledge but you could copy/paste the searches from others who figured out smart ways.

I'm playing Forge Guard and it's quite tanky but also does quite a bit of damage. I died a few times but the game doesn't feel difficult yet

Story is tutorial. Empowered Monoliths later can get challenging for many builds
When you finish the three level 90 Monoliths you will unlock all at 100 and there is an infinite scaling possibility to make it harder
for the most part, if you cover your bases defensively and aren't super underleveled, it won't until higher corruption levels in empowered monos
i can't really find information about enemies in last epoch - do enemies also have capped resistances in high level zones?
in other words is buliding res shred always value
enemies typically have no res or armor
enemies typically have no resists, but shred and penetration can both force them negative
Resistance Shred only looses its value when you have to many 'additional resistance' modifier in your monolith as it is applied before the resistance cap

the only major changes are to shadow daggers and entangling roots on older werebear builds as far as I know
dude i feel you i had an ignite bulid that had a tooltip of ~40k, did so much less in the end than another bulid that had a ~8k tooltip
and shadow daggers isn't really a relevant change to how you build those characters
tooltip dps for dots in general is ok-ish, except for non-stackable ailments, e.g. time rot or spreading flames, because the fact that an enemy can have only X number of stacks is completely ignored in tooltip dps currently. hopefully it will be fixed in the future

If I have 200% chance to inflict bleed, the next best upgrade would be 100% bleed duration and not another 100% bleed chance, right?
Since 3 bleeds with standard duration are 3/4 of 2 bleeds with double duration.
But with the 3 bleeds you're getting your damage out quicker

this is a bit of a longer question, but how should I approach building my character based on build guides? the items people put in planners are all super ideal, t5+ on everything with the ideal stats. even after empowering MoF it still seems like it would take me forever to farm everything i need to even get close. what affixes/implicits should i prioritize, what affixes/implicits are good replacements, and is there somewhere I can 'learn' efficient gearing in general or is it something you have to pick up with experience in the game?
You don't need T5 everywhere to clear the end game. The prioritization is different per slot and what your character needs. For instance, if you have a t1 or t2 physical res suffix on multiple pieces of gear in order to be phys res capped then an item with T5 phys res is incredibly valuable as it would free up 2 or more suffix slots on gear for supplementary defenses such as health, armor, dodge, etc. For weapons the prefixes are important as they boost damage. Helm, chest, and relics offer many class specific affixes not found on other equipment slots so they vary. Boots and belts are suffix heavy (health is primarily used in both suffix slots and don't sleep on movement speed for boots), jewelry is flex. Gloves are mixed. Blessings can also be utilized to fill in defensive gaps as necessary.
Most build guides are just that - guides. Don't feel obligated to mimic each item and slot unless it requires a build enabling unique.
blessings also serve as extra spice that can easily "cap gear" that you "need"

there are two parts that "hit", the initial arrow dealing 2 base and the explosion after .6 for 30 base. Do they BOTH benefit from the compllete array of bonuses you get for all added/increased/more?
Consequently, doesnt that make the barrage (insta explosion node) REALLY bad? Because you lose the 2+base *inc * multi value of that first hit arrow hit thats 2 damage
or does the arrow still hit, but the explosion hits too, just simultaneously
Assuming the node doesn't specify "explosion", yes, both the initial arrow & the explosion will benefit from any nodes on the tree.
The arrow hits then explodes immediately, rather than after the duration.

since essentially there's an "immediate explosion" from the first arrow, but you cannot "attach a second arrow"

interestingly enough iirc detonating arrows increased shock duration affected its uh, poison? not sure which i tested but it lasted for an extra tick from what i remember
but most of those no, dont overlap
If its only one tick it can also be because of your application time. Dots tick numbers are somehow aligned to some 'serverticks' and there can be left over damage which results in an extra tick while doing the same overall damage

Yeah, you need to sum up the total damage you do against the dummy with & without shock duration. I'd assume shock duration doesn't affect poison duration though.
Yo, folks, so I just reached the end-game (monolith). And to my surprise I can't seem to return back to the monolith once I port out of it to clear my inventory, I am used to PoE 6 portals, hehe. Monoliths in Last Epoch are one-way-deal, is that so?

Yeah. Filter for useful stuff. Items give very little gold in return and gold is mostly only for gambling and/or stash tabs
One more question from a total noob here 🙂 I am trying Primalist/Druid/Werebear, with some help from a guide I found online. The build specializes into "Summon Thorn Totem", but this skill is NOT on the action bar, not to mention that my character spends most of the time in the Werebear form. So, why the totem is there? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

in 9/10 cases in the game added is better than more increased, but you could mathematically make a comparison between the three values pretty easy i suppose, and certain builds likely reach the threshold. I might try to do that later.

The devs have said before that the rounding is only used for display purposes, when the game is calculating something it uses the "proper" (un-rounded) value.
added, inc & more generally don't fight for the same slot. Added & inc are both on the weapon prefix (added is better), more is only on the skill tree (apart from a few places where it's on some passives as well).
So while you could do some maths to see whether added/inc/more is better, you'd likely never need to use it 'cause you're unlikely to need to make that choice.
added is on plenty of passive nodes (im mostly playing rogue and sentinel but ive seen it otherwise, as well as skill nodes too)
and stuff like the mourningfrost boots come to mind
its quite min/maxy for sure but still

I have done the math for certain skills. It's all really relative to one another. Also skills have different Added damage effectiveness so it is not the same for all skills. Crit Multi and Increased damage is the easiest, if you have 100% crit chance then that is effectively = 200% increased. It's really a case by case scenario and you would need a damage calculator (which I have a scuffed version on google sheets) to be able to tell.
It's all about balancing everything
Crit multi is effectively a 100% more multiplier (assuming 100% crit chance) rather than 200% increased.

So I have been using Hope in th eHoly Aura chain, when an enemy dies within Holy Auras area of effect it has a chance to spawn a health globe that heals for 70. It then scales with healing effectiveness, is this branch a total waste of a minimum of 5 skill points which I could be putting into resistance? I really cannot find any builds or even a mention of the node on discord so starting to think its a waste?
There's basically no reason to take it at the moment given the strength of leech
Healing for at most a few hundred when an enemy dies is nothing compared to being able to recover hundreds per second via leech

They're fairly accurate, but not completely accurate. I'm fairly certain it takes into account non-conditional things in your passives. It does take into account your gear (you can witness this by changing weapons for instance)
If they change it, then they're taking it into account, though it could be inaccurate just due to the stats on the quiver.

there are special nodes that for example reveal stuff that dont give mods
but consume a charge
also some mods are much easyer then others

On normal I typically do it at the very end when I can use it to accumulate the required stability to complete the third quest.
So playing a Primalist for the first time and sooo excited I just got a totem (was hoping they'd get totems) and was wondering, would it make sense for me to carry a staff since I think totems are considered spells and spell damage would help with totem damage?

when you hover over a spell, the bottom of the tooltip shows all of the "tags" that will affect the item
so if the totem has the tag "spell", then anything affecting spell damage will work. some thing with the wolf and the "minion" tag

Yeah, with minions, there's two rows of tags. The first is the tags for the skill you use (to summon the minion), the second is the tags that the minions uses.
Like Summon Vine, the first row shows that it's a minion skill & it scales with attunement
the second shows that the vine uses a melee & poison skill

in my current fight he's summoning the big slow falling meteor, then canceling the end of that animation and immediately going into his void charge with no windup/tell
i saw it today a couple of times, although i dont even know how the meteor animation ends to say for sure he cancels it
honestly the biggest issue is that his voice for his charge happens when he's already halfway done with it
by the time you hear it you're already dead unless you were super far away
and if you're super far away you can get killed by stuff that has no voice line

I'm currently fighting a fire orboyss with the sequential rings, flame breath, 3 fire orb things, charge, falling meteor, and the small void explosion he places under you
and the main issue is trying to be far enough away I can dodge the charge while still being able to see the flame breath visual
and not screwing myself with the sequential ring positioning
Try staying closer to him and void explosion under you and charge won't be cast. You'll just have to deal with his auto attack
there's also a very weird delay on transplant at times

I think you can hover the skill and see the lists of tags to understand which ones apply, I would assume it wouldnt count as a lightning skill anymore

Can you be more specific, I have never heard of that happening. And I'm not sure I quite understand.
So I made a Mage for my first character and I did use a filter but didn't always pick up everything that dropped, only what may have been better than what I had. I made a Primalist alt and, of course you go back through the same maps (story) and all the stuff I didn't pick up as my Mage was still on the ground and I couldn't touch it.

what are some very easy to get going builds for beginners?
Is there anything else I need to do for Omnis to drop except kill Shade in empowered monos at a few hundred corruption? I've killed him quite a few times now at around 350-400 corruption, quite far out in the web if possible (usually at 15+ stability rewards). got all 3 other uniques already, just Omnis is missing. those who have gotten one already, how many kills did it take, roughly?
I didn’t get mine until 470 ish
And have yet to see another so far at a bit over 600

Yeah, idk which quests it effects exactly, but some of them have like location/proximity based markers
so if you get close to the marker it goes away
best way is to probably import your character into the character builder and ask in the primalist channel

Yes, just not quite as good as for physical hit builds
The relic has a 15% chance to drop, the sword has 85% chance to drop, you just need to keep on at it.

Today I learned - the DoT pools in the Dragon Emperor fight aren't bleed they're a % of current HP that ignores ward.

It kicks in as soon as you reach the threshold, so the 1k hit will have damage mitigation for the portion under the threshold

Endurance affects any damage you take under the threshold regardless of whether you were above the threshold when you took the hit. If you had a threshold of 1k & took 1,001 damage, the first 1 damage wouldn't be affected by Endurance but the remaining 1,000 would.

Penetration is just another effect to be inherited & not treated differently to any other
pardon if its clear elsewhere but, for the spriggan form passive that makes healing totem fire thorns and specifically copy a bunch of thorn totem skill tree, is it supposed to only fire once as it arrives? the description implied that healing totems would just also be thorn totems, and the thorn totem upgrade that returns mana when a thorn totem dies works in the spriggan form, so it kinda counts it as a thorn totem, but not actually. is this working as intended?

No, they wouldn't. That's to improve their clear rather than single target DPS.
If your shadows were throwing base Shurikens, for example, each shadow would be able to hit a single target once with one of their 3 shuriken.
that's about the only thing that I can think of that shadows can use that fires multiple projectiles.
Ditto for the 3 acid flasks with the node that gives you multiple flasks per throw.
Makes sense they meant that, and not actual shotgunning with all 3 projectiles.

Warpath Sentinel is pretty fluid from the start and you unlock it really early (level 2?). It's the whirlwind/cyclone build if you're into that playstyle.

I think damage reduction is always multiplicative from different sources. Otherwise you could reach immunity. The multiplier though is additive per source. Like for your example for the rogue or the beastmaster's aspect of the boar (15% reduced damage taken and some talents add up to 5*3% additional reduction yielding one final 0.7 multiplier in the end)
right. In POE "less" is multiplicative to prevent abuse cases, but they have cases of "reduced" which is additive (subtractive)
They probably should change the wording for all modifiers to less damage taken.

You should rather look at the description rather than only at the stat line. If it says "multiplicative with other modifiers" it is multiplicative, if it doesn't then it's additive. We don't have many sources of additive reduced damage taken.
wings of argentus has no mention of it being multiplicative and id be shocked if it were additive. Is that just clerical or is that an actual exception?

guys, is it me or this game have major heat issues ? my games run at 80*C plus sometimes jump to 90+

do you absolutely need to have mana items as mage? it seems very slow and clunky to play meteor + fireball when I have to use Focus every single time
yeah mana regen is very nice

and you can get damage taken as mana which is also really nice
also i think there is a interaction with meteor and fireball where it gives you mana back

Infernal Shade can do it, Rip blood, Dread Shade -- there might be other ways, but these are what come to mind immediately
Infernal Shade has the DoT tag so it can't hit which is required (or should be) for the retaliation.
Rip Blood & Marrow Shards both have nodes to target minions.
The life vaccume can do it aswell
No, it has the DoT tag, though it can target minions with the Grim Harvest node
I have a drain life build and it cannot hit. The stun is just added as a guarantee if you pick the node, but not a hit.
is someone an expert on dread shade here? if i select enemy of my enemies, does it work with frenzied phantom? testing on the dummy, i don't see a difference in attack speed
It does, but there does appear to be a bit of a delay before you get the Frenzy effect. Plus the Frenzy effect is only for 1-5 seconds after Dread Shade attaches to a target.
about the arena waves, I was taking a look at the ladder and I have a question: Do you have to beat all the waves without resetting or do they save your progress at some point?

You have to restart each time from either wave 0 or 80 if you have a gold key (which are guaranteed if you voluntarily leave the arena at or after wave 80 plus you can get them as a monolith reward).

It averages the implicit attack speed & adds up everything else.

Nope, IMO more likely next year since multiplayer is coming out this year (likely the end of the year, IMO).
