There will be a "standard" cycle where characters go after any given current cycle. However, it is unclear if the mechanics for any given cycle will always move to standard.

Personally I'd be bored after a single cycle doing that. Without the refresh I have almost no incentive to play because I can just take the OP shit I had finished and roll through the content with it and I personally really like the feeling of character progression

So I played a new character (not MP demo) to chapter 5 last night, and apparently the progress never saved, and the character no longer exists. All the gold/materials I spent and the items I acquired did save, however. Is this a common issue? I don't feel very motivated to play if none of my progress will save.

Cycles will be a thing. You don't need to participate in them.
We need a bit more confirmation as well but it sounded like the mechanics will not be exclusive to restarting but you will not be on leaderboards for that cycle, for obvious reasoning. And of course you're stuck in standard economy and that will eventually become a complete bloated mess with excessive prices.
shame, i love arpg gameplay but hate the idea of resetting, PoE doesn't do a good job imo with standard servers, just a dead server with everyones characters archived
resetting has been a thing for the entirety of the genre, I honestly hold the opinion that if you don't like a core feature of it then it just may not be a long term genre for you
Yeah if no resets its more like an mmo, but that does not work that well in a non open world game or a game that does not require constant attention like an mmo.
Even the most grindy of arpgs can be "completed" in a few weeks of intense play which is how most people engage with them. MMOs are more like 1-2 hours a day over the course of years.

From the Council Chambers, head north west to the library door, then head north and there should be a door to the study. If you are trying to enter the zone and it won't happen, that is a bug.

your fps is more likely to be a cpu issue than a gfx card issue
i have ryzen 5600 and hwinfo shows that its only using 25% cpu and 100% gpu

You can't compare CPU and GPU with each other since they do completely separate tasks so care about CPU more in what way?
A 4070 ti would be more than capable of doing 120+ fps at 4k in this game. The CPU is more likely to be the cause of drops. With that said, the new 0.9 build is having dramatically better optimization, and so I think you should be more than fine so long as your CPU isn't a quad-core without hyperthreading

Any character made offline will stay offline and wont be able to join multiplayer, your progress wont be lost though. Everybody wanting to play multiplayer on the 9th of March will need to make a new online character
its to protect the integrity of the game, currently your characters are stored locally on your computer as there was never servers. So uploading those characters to MP is a risk as well as a huge task.

you can play them but they will be locked to offline, everyone in the multiplayer environment has a fresh start cometh 0.9

I'm not read up on the details on that so I'll leave that for someone else to say. But if you're planning to play any multiplayer making a MP character is the way to go

online and multiplayer are synonymous
you can't use an offline character for multiplayer and you can't take an online character offline. they're totally separated
offline characters are stored on your device, online ones are stored on a server. it would be a liability to let them cross paths and also ruin integrity of cycle starts etc.

You need to keep farming highest level area you can. Also, do 20 burpies and throw salt over your shoulder

its slowed to (whatever is slower than a 'crawl')
another skill caught all the way up to 15 and the others that were already at 15 have gotten like 1/20th of the xp bar

I don't know what it is exactly but it is like a threshold, once you get to that threshold level the skill levels really fast
i believe it's designed so that you can always catch up really easily
and your skills are around the level the game expects them to be for the content you're doing

If you haven't respecced your skills at all, it's basically tied to your character level
You'll hit level 20 skills at like level 80 or something
for example, im like a bad player who doesnt know how to optimize their builds very well, im struggling / failing in these low level mono's (and stuck in the campaign). as a result i cant level skills up anymore, i cant experiment with higher levels in the skills
feels weird to punish that instead of just letting them continue to be leveled
its not like having 5 more points in a skill would suddenly trivialize the content at thi slevel
a point doesnt equal like +100% dmg or anything crazy
Feels both a punish and a reward to me. If you manage to get your character stronger you get more skill points to play with

again, theres nearly no downside to letting me get more points in a skill at this level

ive leveled up a few times with them at 15, and theyve stayed there. i think the level of the enemies are a factor

What level are you and which monos are you doing? Are you dying too quickly in lower monos? Or are you unable to generate enough damage to kill enemies?
im 49 in lvl 58 mono. damage is 'moderate' it takes like 2 casts of my expensive spell to kill normal enemies at a good bit of casts to kill the tankier ones.
im def squishy but can survive for a while by just running around and dodging usually

you shouldn't shy away from respeccing if you're swapping to something else
2 skills that i have specced up ill be using with surge, 1 specced im using now as my main spender (reave), and then 1 i was just wanting to level up to experiment with, but was hoping to get more nodes in before dropping it. i just needed like 2 more. but then i hit this exp wall that i wasnt expecting.
i know you dont think its there, but idk what to tell you because ive been repeatedly checking the skills' exps and theyre moving less than millimeters whilst my actual character level and exp bar at the bottom is increasing. my other skill went from like 8-15 pretty quickly then hit it and then it nearly stopping moving too
but i should just drop the experimenting one tho
I don't "think" it isn't there, I know it isn't there. You have several experienced players telling you that what you're perceiving isn't the case and you're ignoring it.

The skill will definitely keep levelling up with time and kills, but slower at the higher levels
Respecced skills get accelerated XP, so if you respecced a lot, thay might be what you're seeing.
Lizard asked for more specifics on skill xp vs character level recently. I suspect he is building a guide for maxroll to be released in March. Keep your eyes open for that one
I’m pretty sure there are skill xp plateaus where you’re basically soft capped on skill level until your character level is higher too

My advice, find the highest level mono you can comfortably clear echos. Then just keep doing that and if stuff gets too easy, keep on moving up.
You should see your XP climbing.
Also, do XP nodes on the monos. Those books are cracked

Yeah, character level isn’t something I’d focus on at all tbh.
Being underleveled is the standard, like 20-30 under zone level in monos
My highest character is level 87 (skills are all 20+). Character level does start to get very slow (and the devs said they expect to make 90-100 slower still).
Plenty of other things to try though, so reaching 100 is a nice to have for me

So getting to empowered was a good bit slower
I got to Chap 3 in 1-2 hours the other night and I was like "wow so fast"
And multiplayer means you can get to endgame with all passives in like 40 minutes
Normally I'm just ambling through the maps. If you ignore the mobs you really can cruise pretty quick

as far as I know there is actually a cap to skill levels but its sort of a hidden mechanic
it does exist though. you can notice this in the main branch of the game currently where you will notice the exp bar on skills will never progress, then you gain a level and suddenly the bars are filling and you get the next skill even if you are in the same monos and should be getting less exp.
its unintuitive as hell, but I think it probably exists cause skills get compounding power from levels, and for many situations it would greatly make the game much easier if you could just cap out skills easier.

whats weird is that "cast speed" is technically under "spell" category... but the skill is affected by it, and the tooltip doesn't mention "spell"
Warpath isn’t a spell and should not be affected by cast speed.
Each skill scales with a certain attribute. In most cases, it’s 4% increased damage per point, some skills have different scaling though.
If you have a skill which is tagged Attunement, you can see how it is impacted when you hover over the skill for tooltip and hold ALT key

does last epoch have a resistance system similar to poe where after final boss kill you lose overall resistances? Cuz the first area I went to after killing the crab boss I was getting insta killed by mobs, compared to before where I didn't have many issues
Not quite
Mobs gain 1% resistance penetration per zone level up to level 75
So if you have 0% resistances in a level 75 zone, you take 75% increased damage compared to having 75% resistance.
alright, yea my res's suck but idk how to fix em as I would then lose all my minion life/dmg and they would prob die a ton.
You don’t really need capped resists
Mostly look for resists in passives, get Gold rings from gambler
Get some phys res somewhere
Use bases that give resists
Get health affixes as a priority
Get endurance %
Armor, etc
If you focus too much on resists your other layers are gonna be scuffed early on
my overall defenses are bad too ngl, I'll try getting some high def bases and crafting life/res and try to get some minion stuff on there as well
Try to prioritize “increased health” and “hybrid health” affixes. Those are huge.
They’re on helm, chest, belt and gloves, belt, boots respectively
So how worth it are status effects late game? As a Primalist, I was considering giving Wolf and Thorn Totem Bleed and Poison respectively, but are these actually strong on them or am I better off pumping raw damage per hit?
Fire and void are also pretty important.
Raw hit and ailments are both good. Pick what you like.

Unless you are gonna get some bonuses like "extra hit damage to bleeding enemies", just grabbing some DoT chance etc won't do anything
Thorn Totem specifically gets a passive that gives it bonus damage based on enemy poison stacks, which was why it interested me
Then yeah it might be useful, you can try it out, see how many stacks you can sustain
honestly most my kit can inflict some kind of DoT if I build into it. Lightening Totem gets Frostbite, Thorn Totem gets Poison, Wolf gets Bleed, Warcry gets Bleed. I could easily just go full DoT damage if I wanted with so many sources of it.
You still need to scale them though.

Minion Damage, Minion Damage Over Time affixes
There aren't many of those and those are all gonna be added together. Like suppose you get 1000% from equipment total. And your wolf can sustain 10 stacks of bleed. That is 20 x 11 x 10 = 2200 DPS. So you ll need a lot from passives and skill tree too. Especially more multipliers
So it adds Minion Damage and Minion Damage Over Time instead of them being separate multipliers...?
I know Wolves can get a 60% bonus to damage from bleed they inflict.
Yep it should. That is how it works with other things.
Multiplicative bonuses are usually specified explicitly
Storm Totem can get 45% cold penetration with Frostbite. Thorn Totem can make poison last longer and get increased damage per stack of poison. Wolves get to make bleed deal up to 60% more damage and last longer. Warcry... honestly it doesn't get anything but 5 stacks of bleed per hit.
And as a totem it can cast twice each time I use it, so 10 stacks over 3 seconds... 3.3 stacks per second with about half uptime if I use it on cooldown... so 1.6 stacks per second... actually its bleed kind of sucks doesn't it?
I could also technically spec my crow to do frostbite, but I've speced it into support instead, so it automatically heals me and other companions below half health.
I could spec Warcry to inflict Frostbite actually. It has this passive where me and allies deal increased cold damage for 4 seconds when it's used... up to 250%. If I also spec Storm Totem into cold damage that's significant. And it can inflict a lot more frostbite stacks than it can stacks of bleed.
I didn't play totems I am afraid. But as comparison these are the more damage multipliers scorpion gets for poison on 0.9
- 1% more per poison (can sustain around 50 easily, 100 on bosses)
- 100% more damage over time
- 150% more poison damage
- 150% poison nova damage (affects poison applied by the nova)
- 85% more single companion damage
- 75% more single companion damage
- 40% poison penetration
With scorpion I was getting around 100k poison ticks on the dummy with very suboptimal gear

In my experience it is usually better to stick to a single type instead of getting different DoTs but again I didn't play totems
you want single damage types so that you can point your damage all in one direction, you simply won't do enough of any of them with them all going everywhere.
I can't really spec all my totems, and the wolves, to deal frostbite. So if I went DoT I could only really do it by spreading the damage over different ones. I could just go direct damage instead, it seems less complex and more reliable, even if that means the +250% cold damage synergy isn't very useful anymore between Warcry and Storm Totem.
I was able to respec everything in the build to do cold damage actually. So I can just focus cold damage.
I couldn't get it all to do Frostbite specifically, but everything can at least scale with cold now.
Honestly I'm just going to spec the wolves for Howl... it gives +50% damage and +20% attack speed to all allies in radius, and can be upgraded to last 6 seconds. They're better as support buffing the damage of my Totems thanks to my build being super heavy on totem damage bonuses.
The new Rotmind unique looks great at first glance, but AoD isn't a spell which... Sends this unique to the garbage?
It’s a unique for an archetype that has only like... two spells to work with and neither of them are particularly good at the moment

Hey, I played LE open beta, and I experienced what I thought were 2 bugs. Before submitting any sort of report, I wanted to ask the community to make cure this wasn't a code - 12.
I played the sentinel. Sometimes the skill warpath would "toggle on" on click, causing the skill to run until 1) I ran out of mana, or 2) I use another skill. Clicking on warpath again would just restart the animation.
I got a 6-buttons mouse. The middle click stopped being recognised at some point when changing zone. Could be due to the mouse driver, I did not take time to investigate or try to replicate the bug
First one is a known bug. It's a thing with all channeled skills, something about releasing input if it's received the minimum channel time makes it think it's being held. It can be solved by just holding the button for the skill for a second and letting go.
Second I have no idea.

You can also look at existing build guides on https://www.lastepochtools.com/build-guides/ and see if it's been made, or inspiration on how to make it even better, but generally T4 julra and 300+ corruption is a good rule of thumb to see if your build is good
i beat julra t2 without any issues like baby mode. is tier 3 and 4 much harder

what you're looking for are not quest echoes
they're just regular echoes on the echo map, with the "unique or set wand or catalyst" reward type
they will just randomly appear on the echo map in the stolen lance
so farming them is just a matter of revealing as many echoes as possible
that said, you get a much higher chance to see them in empowered monoliths, which you unlock once you complete all three level 90 monoliths normally
generally it's recommended to wait until you unlock empowered monoliths to try and target farm items like this, with the exception of common monolith boss drops

frostbite is a DOT and not a spell, so adaptive spell damage does not affect frostbite. Frostbite is a cold DOT, so cold damage affects frostbite well. It's that simple

Okay, so if I want to really lean into the Lightening Totem's Blizzard effect, I'm wanting % Minion Damage, % Totem Damage, and % Minion Cold Damage.
Meanwhile, the Blizzard is a Spell, so % Spell Damage should effect it... however, the Frostbite it has a 60% chance of causing per hit won't be effected by it. I'm also assuming the +Adaptive Spell Damage will also effect Blizzard's hits... again, it's a spell even though it says it damages enemies over time... but it won't effect any Frostbite stacks.

It should but there are cases where tooltip doesn't work well. Especially when skill nodes involved. So keep that in mind.
I think I'm basically confused over whether the Blizzard is a DoT, or Blizzard is a Spell. The totem itself has a "spell" tag but I'm not sure if that is just the lightening, or if it's also the blizzard. I have no way far as I know to check if the Blizzard is a DoT effect.. it doesn't appear to be a status effect, enemies just take constant damage while in the radius.
alright, cuz I put on an item that increased my spell crit chance and it increased my tooltip dps of a spell, and the crit chance was the only stat that in anyway increases dmg
When you want to make sure these kinda things, you can check tunklab website. I am on phone so don't have link but googling tunklab last epoch should find it

That makes sense, because one of the nodes you can only take if you took the Blizzard node adds Cold Spell Damage. I thought it COULD only mean it's adding Cold to the totem's lightening strikes... but yeah, it seems like they worded the description in game REALLY badly

Yes, the dummy in End of Time isn't considered an enemy. There's a dummy that does count as an enemy in Champion's Gate

Vines will give rage per attack instead of per second, so melee vines are useless and you need some more points in the spriggan tree to go instead with range vines, which give you enough rage

They will not be wiped, but when new cycle comes with 1.0 you won't be able to play them in cycle. You will still be able to play them online in "standard"

but 49% is close to max roll from 30-50
I'd generally recommend the unique one personally
since finding the unique you want is often a big gate on making a build
(and more shots at LP uniques are always useful too)

You can choose not to switch. There's some weird system I can't memorize about which blessings can be in which slot to choose from. You get an easier time as you move forwards in the game (empowered lets you choose from 4, 200 corruption lets you choose from 5)

Int will provide generic Increased Damage to Int-based skills, so that will affect all the damage dealt.
Lacking the Poison Tag will only prevent the skill from dealing Poison Damage on-hit from generic Spell Damage

most sources of added melee and throwing damage are being changed to be adaptive instead of specific damage types. this includes base melee damage on most weapons, for example

ehhh the wording needs to be more careful. For certain uniques yes. but for affixes on gear or passives no.
most passives are still typed, as are most affixes.
its mostly just weapon base stats that are going to be changing to be adaptive.
but this is most of your damage to begin with, and you can simply then choose the correct affix.
So instead of having a dawnblade that is 50 base physical, and 25 fire from an affix
it becomes 50 adaptive on the dawn blade, and you still choose to put a 25 fire affix on it.
Right so I guess that helps with leveling as well as you are less dependent on finding something with the right kind of damage to match your skills

Most of the marksman endgame builds require uniques.
After playing many marksman chars i pretty much stick to Bleed Puncture into Lightning Detonating Arrow while leveling especially in SSF with no gear.

The ruined college is for a future side quest. You aren't literally taking a connected path east, you're just progressing to the east of the world map

Factions are not available within 0.9 multiplayer release on March 9th. We don't yet know how existing characters will be treated when Factions are introduced..

The term SSF is a PoE term and there is no strictly equivalent mode in LE.
In 0.9, you can join a party with other players whose character is the same mode as your character (Softcore, Hardcore).
You can also play Solo challenge mode, which iirc shares loot account-wide with other Solo challenge characters, but not with non-Solo characters.
In the new faction system, some people seem to refer to CoF as SSF, but faction choice ( CoF or MG) doesn't restrict you to playing alone

As a primalist. If I spec into the eterra's blessing level 5 ability, and have it so it gives a damage buff if I use on a wolf or bear, is that meant to give a buff icon? I can't tell if it's sticking to me or not too. The pet goes large but I'm not sure it's giving a buff to me

Solo challenge mode sharing loot with other solo characters is a bug with 0.9 and will be addressed iirc
I don't think so, devs have said the plan for 0.9 is that solo becomes account found rather than character found

rogue is the most incomplete class in the game, it lacks one subclass and a few skills for its two implemented subclasses, mage only lacks one subclass. I'd say the range of builds on mage is much better, but on the flip side rogue builds tend to be more OP on average cause rogue must be op in every game apparently
I already have in mind builds I want to play, just asking which would be better to start at to farm stuff for other builds
I was considering playing Sorc Volcano Orb with Lament of the Lost Refuge next patch but it seems to be very few builds with it, is it just straight up bad or is there just not a lot of build creation atm?

Hi all, Wanting to jump into LE. This game seems a bit intimidating. If I am just interested in the main story line and not all the end game stuff, is this the game for me.
Main story isn't done yet but the game is pretty accessible
There are 5 classes (and 12 sub-classes) available to play, some of which will be more accessible depending on the types of games you are familiar with and enjoy.
The campaign currently has 9 chapters. Latest info indicates 10th is planned for 1.0 release and 11 and 12 sometime later.
As it involves time travel , The story has quite a few rabbit holes you can go down.
One of the biggest criticisms of the current campaign is that it has a few cliffhangers.
Im not sure how long the campaign took on my first character, but I engaged with all the text and played slowly and deliberately. I know that when I started my second character I had 80 hours in the game. If I had to guess, I'd say 20-30 hours of that was in the campaign.
If you take your time and read the popups, your skills and items, you'll find that concepts are introduced slowly. If you rush you will likely become more confused about the systems, but you can ask in chat or use the in game guide to learn more.

The story is quite rudimentary in this game compared even to some other ARPGs like Grim Dawn, much less any real RPG game. There are no indications that LE is going to pivot into being story-focused any time soon, or ever for that matter. If you are looking for a game with a good story, I'd play something more like KOTOR or Planescape: Torment.

Their level is based on the tier that you do, which you choose when starting it
You need to complete lower tiers before attempting the harder ones
Tier 1 should be easy for you, 2 might be about right and 3 might be too difficult

yea. Wish it would specify mandatory or not as there are a lot of interesting stuff that I get turned away from due to it having like 5 uniques that I dont know are must haves or not.

ok, so i cleared the second monolith and now I see how it works. I need to make my way toward the last ruin. Are blessing only "active" in the monolith where you got them? or they are shared across all of them?
They're just stats on your character, they apply everywhere

Tells you your roll on it, basically.
It's a representation of how well rolled they are
I see so if it 8-10% and I got 10% it will be completely filled.

Sentinel, especially Paladin will give you good access to ignite or bleed and is a really solid starter choice. Definitely recommend checking it out and experimenting with it.
Warpath, Abyssal Echoes, Hammer Throw, Shield Rush, Smite, Rive, etc. You have a ton of options.
all ailments were nerfed quite a bit so be careful with it

and Fire Shred lowers enemies fire resistance
So basically Fire Shred helps my ally dealing increased fire dmg and Fire Pen only helps myself correct?

Hi, I'm looking to do a few simulations in R trying to figure out how likely and which are the most optimal steps to create t23+ items, have the information related to forging potential been datamined or found out by any community member? Thanks.
In terms of how the FP lost per craft is weighted? Devs said it rolls once, 1-max, then about 30% of the time roll again between 1 and the previous value; all inclusive intervals. (I don't remember the exact words they gave on the reroll chance, it was something like "greater than 1/4 and less than 1/3")
As far as the chance for a critical craft, I don't think numbers have been released, but I am pretty sure they said it's a static chance unaffected by anything.

Seal chance is definitely weighted based on a few things. Exalted items have a higher chance and lower tier mods have a higher chance. A T1 mod on an exalt probably has 100% chance to seal, and a T4 mod on a rare/magic item has the lowest chance. You'd have to test probably quite a few to get good ballpark numbers, but maybe somebody knows.
exalted items having better seal chances would explain a lot of experiences I've had with it 🙃

you could graph & math it out comparing old and new values but in both cases it just means more damage
I'm pretty sure that in almost all cases the phys pen is worse.
but it's not worse enough to really matter based on my experience in the stress test event

I'd expect a few mastery passive trees to see some love in the 0.9.x patch cycle. Not sure if they've given any specifics.
Shaman has been mentioned as "needing some love" a few times, and Acolyte is getting a visual overhaul (with several skill changes) that might need mastery changes to go with - probably not for 0.9.0, but maybe in the cycle up to 1.0
yeah, more of the older trees getting some of the threshold passives like what druid has would make sense to me

probably? Almost certainly will have some drops in certain zones/against certain enemies, but that kind of stuff improves with each patch generally and 09 has an optimization focus
