greetings everyone... I'm wondering if it is possible to level up as a caster smite/healing hands paladin. I want to work toward cArn_'s smite/HH build which is a melee range caster. However, I've been following a leveling guide Tonybing which uses a twinked setup and focuses on using warpath as its mobile fire DoT delivery system. It makes for a very good bleed build. It's more of a speed clear build than a bossing build, but it can handle bosses just fine.

I've been playing a variation that converts HH to a melee attack to proc fire burst, been working well. Even swapping rive to vengeance works great, I only slightly miss the pull.
My only gripe with that build is how inmobile u can be sometimes you just "stop" and do damage

Ignite warpath do get lotsa support from gear, but only like 4 nodes across all 4 masteries including the base class sentinel itself (just like bleed variant)
I like bleed duration more because there are more sources for bleed chance elsewhere. Then again i am abit biased cuz i use Taste of Blood, bleed duration is higher priority for me

probably depends on the specific build, I tried warpath and erasing strike, I did not find them particularly good for bosses

I find it very hard to scale ehp with sentinel though
I had high armor (with 70+% applying to dot), good resistances, around 3k hp, and still did not feel super tanky
though at 700, I found even the mana stacker sorc squishy, so it is probably a piloting issue along with suboptimal gear 😄
There is many factors that can conteibute here to EHP.
F.e. the above planner doesn't show all defense.
And yes piloting is half of the defense job. Warpath helps here nicely, as it forces you to never-stand-still.

yea, warpath was decently tanky in the echoes because of the moving (I played vk though), but I did not find it very good for bossing, nor damage or tankiness wise
Compared to my bleeding Pala, bossing was awful slow. Abberoth took me several mins (most probably the intended lenght).
But there was not too much I couldn't face-tank-and-leech.

Yeah sure. You can't outgear everything. There comes a time when you need to engage with every mechanic to raise the bar higher.

What I see first: I specced Lunge for Arena too, but recommend Volatile for bossing and allround purpose

well, the max was 10 afaik, but yes, I am at 12 for quite some time now
in 1.0 I played bleed falconer and torment warlock, around farming only around 300-350c
r12 is the first game changer.
Some relaxed beacon farming did the rest for me.
And don't feel too bad. I didn't see a single Red Ring my first 1k hours

also, I got a lp4 decayed skull, and now I am trying to get a good exalted helm to slam on it, is that a stupid idea? I am using seed of ekkidrasil now, with 10% endurance slammed on it, but I used exalteds as well
You look for a Beacon Echo with a nice layout you like, you activate 2x the same 40% Buff (for example enemies enrage half health) and cancel the beacon at around 50%. Rinse amd repeat.
Makes me easily 100k per hour. I know top player do twice or more, but I play kinda relaxes in comparison I guess

It gives some nice exp/favor (but only for the first half -> thats why you cancel)
Combined with f.e. Imperial Warcamp with nice spawns usually you have some nice exp per time spent

Either I farm bosses for their loot/blessing or I farm favor (and the last activity is of course: spending favor)
it makes sense 🙂 I just never put too much thought into it, I just "played", and if I found an item, I stockpiled it away for a different build
it was always best for me to stack prophecies with 2x use + 2x drop to get the drop i wanted.

but I did not do the dedicated favor farming, so I kinda weaved this in to the "normal" (=amateur) gameplay
so I farm echoes, spend some time trying to find the nemesis, do the timeline boss at either max stability or when there is enough stability
honestly that makes sense haha
but the way i try to approach is to stack prophecies doing 1 thing rather than all over
like if im gonna try to slam stuff, i'll find julra or temporal prophecies
to an extent I do that
but not too much, as then the screen gets polluted with loot
my mistake is probably that I have 1 generic loot filter, and I pick up loot for all type of builds
yea that will hurt you especially with the loot boost currently running
so I actually see items that are not useful
even rn with a semi tight filter, the screen is clunked up with affix drops
I don't know how can a filter be made that filters out useless loot, and keeps useful
even for good builds I am not even aware of
I just have a list of affixes and check for their sum tier
which is obviously bad, as some affixes are not useful together

unless your build is so well done that it's just fine tuning then you can make a super tight filter

Timeline doesn't matter too much imo. The Echo layout is more the interesting question. Imperial Warcamp is clearly S-Tier here, but always hard to find one when you need it.
Many small and/or high density maps can do the trick. You usually want either a quite open or a straight forward map layout to reach your beacon quickly.
For getting 100 in HC I just grinded Underground Lakes ("open" layout), was ok'ish to me

You want t7 melee void and t5 mana on the wep. With a 0.4-0.5 crit roll on the world splitter and a t6-7 crit roll on a diff item your basically crit capped

all the mana cost lines basically dont work for me
I would've wanted to use the melee area for Rive's 2nd hit myself. But since those lines don't really work, it may turn out that build is better off with another weapon.

World splitter is basically designed for mana stacking and for skills that can heavily increase their cost
It's ok to ignore lines on the weapon, as long as the remaining lines are strong enough for your build.

Jasper's Searing Pride has been widely used in fast hitting builds while ignoring the up to 9 levels it can give to various mage skills. Apparently the 1h Vengeance mace is a good generic weapon with other skills, too.
Well, difference between apathy and world splitter is about 40 void flat and guaranteed doom. While worldsplitter offers mana, mana regen and crit multi. I picked the latter

greetings everyone... I'm wondering if it is possible to level up as a caster smite/healing hands paladin. I want to work toward cArn_'s smite/HH build which is a melee range caster. However, I've been following a leveling guide Tonybing which uses a twinked setup and focuses on using warpath as its mobile fire DoT delivery system. I have all of the items except the Soul Fire relic. As a side note I'm posing the question because I expect that the leveling build is going to slow down and become less efficient as I march toward levels 60 and 70. The tooltip DPS for Warpath is 1926, but the DPS for Smite is 2707. If I altered the skills/passives smite would be higher.

if your twink gear is decent, u can reach 80+ quite fast. I did emp mono at lv 60 on my bleed warpath alt with some base unique. I got to lv 87 real quick
also DPS tooltip is not as accurate

I think its all good after watching tonybing's video for abit. Clear speed with vortex and smite pally is always good. You can switch back to caster smite HH at later level
if i removed faith armour id probs aim for divine essence 5 with the ressu + some light of rahyeh just some free dmg and movespeed
also 76 flat spell dmg naked is kinda nice lol, i can just focus on % spell dmg
you might not need 5 points in it given its chance on healing yourself
I have only used LETools

I normally get most of my block effectiveness from the 2by2 idols that can give like 400 of it each
I think around 75+ should be fine but i dont play smite focused build. Not sure how is the clearing speed. Vortex with smite is good because of the throwing cast smite idol, Palarus sword further increase more smite proc. thus the good clearing speed
so ironglass with 45% block chance + warpath's node (20% while spinning) your at 65% block chance before any other investment

Sets are in this current spot cause they didn’t want sets to be like in d3 where every build was just using sets
makes sense, I suppose its hard to balance for both normal items and sets to have them be relative to oneanother
I still think you should be able to slam stuff onto the set bonus
There are a handful of useful sets and standalone set items, but there are not very many sets at all either, which is a big part of why there aren't many useful ones. They stopped developing more of them after introducing legendary items because they wanted to wait until whatever change to sets they make gets put in. No ETA though.
Apparently they already know what they are going to do with them, they just haven't implemented it / I'm sure they'll also want to release some new set items finally to go with the changes, and they just have other priorities atm.

Only with the warrior's fury node
costs 18 per second, your recover 8 mana per second by default. reckless spin(+2 points before it) reduce cost to 8, perfect balance
don't forget to swap off the flat once you can get like a lvl 10 skill
or have a weapon with a good amount of flat

You could also swap HH to a Melee Attack so effectively each Rive gives 2 hits. That's a super strong setup with Flame Burst and Smite
turning healing hands into a melee attack makes it use melee dmg etc stats tho
