It's... strange. You play as a security guard basically, on an interstellar ship that iirc is literally built out of a moon. Ship gets invaded by extraterrestrial slavers and you have to start defending against them. During this you learn thay the AIs on the ship are all fighting against each other and at least one of them is being super cryptic and weird, and goes full on haywire and leads a different alien race in a rebellion against said slavers. It uh. Gets a lot more complicated as you get to games 2 and 3, especially 3 because it incorporates everyone's favorite theme (and one Bungie loves for some reason) ✨ time travel ✨

I have not actually finished any of the old series on account of them being... well, really bloody old. But I've watched playthroughs and several speed runs cuz why not
