It wasn't 250 mil split among the whole studio or anything, it was basically all going to the leadership, the same people who were barely even working on Subnautica 2 and instead doing other things

We simply don't know what their situation was / is. It could have been fine before but they wanted to keep rapidly expanding as they have been and because they weren't turning a profit that wasnt sustainable, or maybe they were far in the red even if they completely stopped expansion. We simply don't know.

Empower 4 (or any of the exceptionals at level 4) are a luxury, they usually aren't make or break except for on the extreme high end of budget.

any nice autobattler? i played tft, which takes a bit of time to get into, has nice graphics and satisfying combinations and wc3 direct strike, which is easier at first and easier to get into strategies, which i think its more heavy on too - you want to time when your army is clashing with opponent, etc.

I just went for a retal setup until I got through second lab.
Get some regen and path to the keystone for every sixth hit, after first lab you can just slap on any shield and Tempest Shield and you'll have pretty consistent use rate without keystone. At level 54 you can equip Daresso's Courage and basically have block cap for free.

Alternatively you can level with a shield skill if you just focus on getting ones with high defense rolls (or at 49 swap to Monastery Bell + Shattershard and Shield Charge your way through everything)

I don't think that art being good or bad is a sliding scale that can be measured by individual standards. You have different standards, sure. Higher standards, doubtful.

GTA and Yakuza are like the only two franchises I know of that are open world and based in a contemporary setting.

That alone makes it a fairly unique open world RPG experience from a narrative perspective. You don't see other games in the same genre doing that kind of thing very well.
