Father-in-law almost suffocated a couple of days ago. Ended up getting a pipe into his throat on his way to the hospital.
Got discharged out of the blue two days later (yesterday) and a surgery scheduled on 21st.
Today he's had a heart attack and yet another bout of suffocation (clogged pipe). Landed in hospital again; never even got admitted. Like, "no urgent admission needed".
On top of that, the paper he got from whoever diagnosed him in that hospital prescribes heart meds I have no idea if compatible with his upcoming surgery or not.
Basically, I've seen a 76yo elderly almost die on my hands. And so far, I only see organized efforts to keep him away from all the help he might need in time.
Now I'm absolutely dreading the future days.

Krafton likely gave them the best terms and contract. Just because they've had issues in the past doesn't mean you can't do your due diligence in the contract and have a good relationship moving forward if that makes sense. Btw if by poor reputation you mean the subnautica stuff after reading through the court documents and stuff I feel like the subnautica leadership is just as much at fault for that whole thing, both sides basically had a falling out but people loved subnautica 1 so much that I feel like most articles and peoples views have become biased in favour of them even though they did a lot wrong as well. I don't know much about what happened with pubg but that game seemed like broken, fun, but still broken mess of a game from launch that was kinda destined to fall off eventually in my eyes.

The AI thing is a big misunderstanding too I feel. The entire AI post they made was about replacing some middle management positions with AI tools as well as basically having the framework to train new AI for use in games if it's needed, they have a couple examples of how some of their subsidies games use AI in their website and it's nothing to do with stuff like AI art or anything, and if it ever does get to that I'm like 90% sure it won't be because krafton forced anyone, but because the studio chose to do it as a cost cutting measure, and krafton just made it possible.

At the end of the day EHG is simply an investment for krafton, if EHG can start making a profit Krafton won't care how they do it, whether they use AI or not, Whether they implement p2w or not, etc. All they care about is getting a return on their investment, and for now EHG seems to be in control. Now if EHG keeps being unprofitable Krafton might step in and go okay this isn't working we can't keep losing money on you and then they might start forcing some of their own ideas into LE. but until then there's literally no reason or sense in them doing anything like that.

Basically Krafton wants to make AI tools available for themselves and their subsidiaries so that if there's ever a good use case for AI they can utilize it using in-house technology instead of having to license or buy some other companies tech. If they want to use AI it'll happen regardless of this, this way it's just in-house so they don't need to pay a different company.

If it's just for boilerplate code that's not such a bad thing, but current AI makes too many mistakes in novel code right now and the code AI writes isn't super readable neither can the AI itself really correct itself so if someone uses AI to program their entire project currently that's a bad thing, and honestly I think it'll remain a bad thing because even if AI's get really good at programming they'll still make mistakes however rare, and if there's nobody around that can read and fix the issue your whole product is doomed. There are some thought experiments and logical limits to AI when it comes to stuff like that, where the AI can never produce something greater than the sum of its training, so the result it produces will always either be as good or worse than whatever already exists, so if everyones just starts only using AI for programming eventually everything will fall apart. At least with how current models work.

Yeah don't get me wrong I don't think it's unreasonable to be weary of certain applications of AI, especially if it threatens the job you're currently doing. But It's like any tool that's ever been invented in history. When autodial was invented every switchboard operator for landline phones lost their job, I bet the operators at the time were sad, mad and feeling the exact same things the people who's job is getting replaced by AI are feeling. But at the end of the day we as a society benefited from autodial. Now the reason there's so much more drama around AI is because it can do so much, instead of replacing one job/profession it can potentially replace dozens if not more. But that doesn't make it inherently bad. We've automated jobs since literally forever. Phone switchboard operators, knocker-ups, computer's (Human calculator) etc are all jobs that have since been replaced by technology, but nobody talks about how unfair / bad it is that alarm clocks made knocker-ups obselete etc. But I bet those people felt bad whenever it happened, now it's just happening to a lot of people and everyone can broadcast their thoughts to everyone else so they're reaching way more people.

People don't just fear ai they also see how it can be misused and how it actually makes your work worse and slower. Faster creation isn't equal to actual more value added to the product if reviews or other things take way longer to meet standards.

Companies don't inherently want to fire people, especially if it'll lose them money, they just think they can replace them with AI because they mistakenly think the AI will do as good of a job, which it just doesn't vast majority of the time, at which point honestly good riddance, companies like that can watch themselves burn for making such dumb decisions.

They'll fire tons of people and then slowly realize they made a huge mistake and either re-employ people and lost tons of money or double down and go under

They could also pivot into something that AI is actually good at and maybe survive but I've yet to see that, because AI really isn't that good at much currently

There's also just a lot of things people are doing with AI that imo should just be illegal like training it on data that they don't have the rights to and stuff
