Woven from memory, memory has been a big matter between the Atlas and the Elder for a long time. Designed but distorted, or is it coming undone? Vaguely reminiscent of Synthesis league, reconstructing the broken memories of Shaper/Valdo... the petals in the corner effectively confirm this to be written by Zana as well. She seems a little... obsessed.
In fact the current Elder fight is a re-enactment of the memory of it, but, well, slightly distorted now.
Originator is possibly the progenitor of the Elder? Or something deeper tied with the Atlas itself, original creator perhaps? Valdo didn't design it, just finished it.

Void doesn't help forged weapons as they only get flat fire and/or phys. I guess I'm gonna look at all the weapon bases and see what fits best. I know there is a fire implicit two handed axe for example and several phys related ones or armor shred.

If people had faith the game was going to be worth it, maybe. TPS was awful, BL3 was mixed (great gameplay, garbage story), and they haven't made anything relevant in the franchise in years. Not just that, but most people see the price hikes as just greed, not a necessity, while these AAA devs are getting outclassed by indie studios who charge half that on the regular.

Remember when we all switched to online distribution that "prices will go down because they don't have to ship physical copies and deal with middle men markets?" That never happened. Not only that, but now they are going around saying we don't even own the games we pay for under some "license" shenanigans. Who wants to pay $80 for a "license?"

So if you get unlucky with drops and don't get that weapon upgrade you need, everything starts to feel like hot garbage. If you DO get the right drops, the game is plenty fun.

PoE1 has an extremely healthy economy most leagues because people use the currencies constantly. PoE2 has a noticeably less stable economy due to the majority of currencies being... kinda pointless with its systems.

As much as people go "oh nobody actually uses PoE currency" that is very far from the truth. Think about how often people throw chaos orbs at bases, or maps. That's a currency sink. Think about how often high value uniques or really well made rares get divined. That's a currency sink. Think about how cluster crafting is prominently in one of two buckets: alt roll then regal + exalt slam or harvest roll then exalt slam. That's a currency sink. Even opening your maps is a currency sink later.

Point being, the primary problem with PoE economy "we don't want to deal with a shitty website" falls on deaf ears all the time. If anything it would be a net positive because it would eliminate the idea of people price fixing (which can be as mundane as having to roll your mouse wheel twice, to as bad as "literally every listing on the site is fake") and it would lower friction meaning people would be more willing to trade more items with more frequency, resulting in more currency exchanging hands and being used. Half the pain of crafting GG items is getting the materials that others have for sale, I guarantee more people would get into crafting if they didn't have to whisper 40 people for a base or smth similar.

POE1 newbs are still always advised to treat currency strictly as money for trading rather than experiment with crafting or learn it.

I mostly agree with you, except for the part about 3rd party sites. I've never viewed that as healthy, but instead as a band-aid over the shit ideas the devs had about trade. Community historically has had to fix a lot of GGG's shortcomings, but instead of seeing this and admitting they were wrong, they double down with "oh, this is actually part of the plan." It's pathetic.

That said, getting people to use more currency--and actually being rewarded for it--would be a lot healthier than the extreme levels of RNG on top of RNG on top of RNG that infects every aspect of the game.

POE2 is a whole other bag, but not really worth opening since it's just a bag of shit. They took all their worst ideas about POE1 and made this clown fiesta instead of learning from their mistakes.

I think if you have played Torchlight Infinite, you might have a sense of what I mean about encouraging players to actually spend their crafting materials (which are also currency). That game is quite good about this, regardless of how people feel about the rest of the game.

I really like TLI, but most people who don't play it have a fairly common misconception about it being "p2w." It exists in a very minor form in the game, but it's not actually necessary to engage with, despite the exaggerated claims to the contrary. The gacha pet system can be a money sink if you let it, but you can also earn these in game by playing each season. I've also seen a streamer complete the hardest bosses with none equipped. They are optional.

That said, it is the kind of game where the further into endgame you get, the harder it can be to progress, and the diminishing returns on time are usually why I end up dropping a season.

It has a lot of build diversity and customization, though, so I usually tell people it's like POE1-Lite.

The systems even work fairly similarly

TLI is boring to me. Combat and campaign feels like nothing at all. I think I tried a few classes and all were boring. My highest character was a minion dude that had about 80% invested in dmg and the rest def and still felt like I was doing zero damage.
Deleted from my account after giving it a second chance which was a few month ago I think.
And I don‘t like the hundred claimable things to do/collect like a gacha game 🤮
But that’s just my opinion^^

I‘d rather play Undecember which had other problems imo but felt good at least especially the bosses. But I dropped that as well😬

If the point of the game is the post-game (like most online ARPGs today), campaign is a waste of dev time.

If there isn't a post-game "mapping" system and the campaign is where you farm your endgame stuff (like Grim Dawn), campaign is the point.

The problem with games trying to have "difficulty" is that usually they do it through either stat checks or gimmicky mechanics. It never feels like genuine difficulty to me.

When I think of what difficulty actually looks like, I think of the PS2 and Xbox era Armored Core games (not 6 since it's just Souls with robots).

There's a learning curve to both building and piloting your mech in those games

And different missions call for different priorities

There's also an enormous ceiling for skill expression

ARPGs pretty much don't have that--at least, not the complete package. They sometimes get elements of that.

POE1 has the build part down, but still falls into the trap of stat check or gimmick to try to kill you

That's why it's very common for people to feel immortal until they get one-shot

I could ignore that, sure. But the problem is challenges and community full of elites.
Slowly but surely I tend to hide from gaming social media because it’s less fun than experiencing it without it. Then there is still the feeling of „I want that mtx so I have to try the difficult stuff“.
But PoE kinda died anyway for me, LE is the way ♥️

The mage and assassin characters are crazy strong if you like the build up & burst style

Yeah from what I‘ve heard you need a top end geared character but obviously paladin/VK are one of the best choices since you heal so much. Dunno if sustain is enough with just HH but I guess no.
And ofc it helps to learn the fight which takes many many tries usually.

Imo the ceiling is too high even tho we got weaver stuff and guaranteed slam.
What I dislike the most is the lack of balance in builds/classes which reflects in the statistics of kills and if they keep rebalancing masteries, we will get to a good balance in maybe two years and we will likely see more bosses like this until then.
I‘d definitely try it if it was more reasonable to win.

Yeah that’s another problem. Having them as additional support to inflict armor shred for example is nice but having to invest in minion defense for that isn’t.
My forge guard was just in empowered but I felt like they die already from time to time and even with my HH it’s barely enough which means it‘ll likely get worse if not invested in survivability for them. Iirc there are not many options in passives

I think ultimately i learnt not to play ramping dmg (my S1 Warrior's Fury Warpath VK and 1.0 Swipe Wearbear with maelstorm), backloaded (like my build now) dmg, or requires summonning/minions build moving forward

Direct damage feels better in general yep even tho I like DoT‘s and minions usually. But ofc not every minion should be permanently summoned, well..I‘d like to have it that way but they want diversity which is understandable

Judgement paladin is ramping damage too since the consecrated ground stacks (I‘m still 😵 about that). It just needs a mobile boss to feel bad and they like to make enemies dash around unfortunately (feels bad for melee)

Imo stacking ground effects shouldn’t be a thing. Would make much more sense to leave the ground effect and have the rest of the time to dodge mechanics. But in reality you have to spam to get more damage so standing still is the best way for damage and that’s for a DoT effect which usually lets you run around while the DoT does it’s thing. But again, maybe they wanted to do it different than the usual DoT

On my end, it speaks to a potential design that I'm not fond of. Making action more important than build variety. That's a key issue with action games, which I suspect comes from vfx and animation constraints. Can't typically support high end vfx for spells and animations for attacks if you have to have hundreds, to potentially thousands of them.

Consider the animation budget allocated towards Lost Ark's martial artist classes. And that game has practically no build variety (Because of how few skills each class has access to, especially over time).

Same! I get pretty rough anxiety spikes if I can't see the other side. I also no longer go in water (like... lakes/oceans/that kinda shit), too many bad experiences + weird sensory issues just make it unpleasant. Sadly I love fishing lol

you can learn how to use tools like my current case, but you can't learn their logic in game development if you don't have a professional artist in game industry teach you something

They know what should you do / what shouldn't you do in your portfolio. These things are what you will never learn by yourself

Like they can tell me which possibilities can I make in an environmental design like current one I'm doing. But I have no idea because I never join in game development.
