Hey guys was wondering if yโall had any mmo recommendations, I want to get into the genre and am currently looking through the roster. Iโve played and enjoyed guild wars 2 (need to get back into it tbh), but I also have an interest in ff14 or lost ark. Idk about WoW because I idk how feasible it is to get into at this point or if there were any other MMOs yโall would recommend, anyways thanks in advance

I remember in 2012, POE didn't have much interesting choices either, probably people asking for too much and have weird double standards between blizzard vs other arpg makers
and people are also stuck with the weird idea that if the game is like that, it will be like that forever
d2 vs d2 lod are 2 massively different things, same for d3 vs d3 ros, and poe nowadays is unrecognizable from 10 years ago
I saw comments on youtube and there are quite some idiots comparing poe stat nodes to d4 stat nodes, saying that some poe major nodes require stat breakpoints but d4 doesn't, those idiots are freaking blind, so many d4 rare and legendary nodes have been shown to require certain amount of stats to activate
but who am I to fight against the new religion "my personal belief is more important than the truth"
They should pull a Grim Dawn and add stat requirements to gear
"You need 400 int to equip this necklace"
OH WOULD YA LOOK AT THAT THE PARAGON BOARD IS NEEDED NOW
Woah woah, you want build variety? Get out of here.
hey how do i use loot filter ? downloaded it but there's only the script when i open files, i must copy all and put in description ?
it's just not 2012 anymore, we have a lot more interesting games to pick from. If they want me to buy the game it has to be intriguing from the start. Else i'll skip until it does look interesting to me.
in last epoch? You can either copy the file contents and use the import from clipboard option or you put them in a specific folder. I think the game will open it for you if you click that button
perfectly sensible choice, like back then I bought d3 in 2017, 5 years after release
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks D4 isn't that great
extremely fun to play, but far from great, so depending on whether you play that game for the fun or the great
I had alot of fun
Slow, tactical game play, where attack mechanics aren't limited to bosses, is something I love in arpgs
Same but I'll still play it. I want to see if the story is worth it or it will be a meme like D3
Bounties are back. I knew it looool
GRs incoming with D4 expac
not sure about GR, remember, GR happened because d3 vanilla had no endgame
d4 has endgame system in place already, thus no need for GR system
Oh I guess they'll add GRs when all their endgame options fail ๐
I actually do like rifts/grs so it would be nice if they added it back in d4
it's a bad design, coz you just stay in town and do endgame, promoting laziness and quick boredom buildup, current d4 system is much more engaging, and oh my, helltide seems even more fun than dungeons (except dungeons with extra spawn sigil)
there can be some endless activities, but preferably not how GR is
Paragon board reminds me of the boring as heck poe skill tree. I doubt it will be interesting but I'll find out when I play.
Oh and you can rotate it like wolcen
yeah, d4 learns a bit from here and there, and I swear to god the armor that vigo wears at the end of act 1 is a freaking warhammer 40k armor, even the weapon looks like it
Theyre gonna evolve it right into starcraft arpg ๐
I'd be here for it, what a twist!
anybody else thought that Joe Shely, the D4 game director, looks like he is AI generated in that endgame video, lmao? he looks like he has no soul.
poor dude, feels like he is completley exhausted
Theyโre probably overworked, those blizzard designers are probably treated like garbage
i've seen an interview with him, and he seems like a good guy but severely overworked like the person above me said. he's probably working 70-80 hour weeks right now
overworked yes, but treated like garbage I'm not sure about that, you simply don't know how much they're paid to overwork like that
even in 3rd world dictatorship countries, people don't overwork because they're told to, there's always much more money involved that the people are willing to say yes to overwork
Perhaps a mod should see this
crunch in game dev is real.
especially in such big titles on such tight release. but i think they got it so far, but whole coordination to finish and double check everything. there was a lot of various typos in text and it didnt even include my native lang and voiceover.
Especially it's too late to hire more people, coz the newcomers won't have a clue ๐
I dunno, I was QAing the beta by accident
FF14 is your best bet and you can play very generous free trial
awesome story
gameplay is really good
soundtrack is amazing
so much stuff to do that normal player would need year+ to do everything
no need rush to endgame, theres still alot of people doing 5 year old raids and dungeons for fun or cosmetic items
so many good looking items and mounts ingame and sometimes almost for free or a few min of work to get, no need to spend money
good community
you need only ONE character to play all classes, theres no reason to create alt
but theres also few "bad" things, some are personal only...
story have slow build up
you HAVE TO finish story (stuff unlocks when you progress main scenario quest) (can buy story skip)
not everything have voice acting, so alot of reading
early levels are not that exciting
art style, some people dont like
PvP isnt main focus so it suffers, but its still fun because its fair (gear doesnt matter)
buying the game can be hassle, if you get it on steam you have to buy everything on steam, cant mix standalone and steam (people will help you if you get stuck)
distractions...you will find yourself constantly doing side content and its rabbit hole
no addons like a WoW (not legally, but not problem if you dont talk about it ingame, big NO NO)
Honestly if you like GW2 then our opinions on a good game is probably too different. But I agree it's too hard to get into WoW now because everyone that plays has been playing for years and doesn't like noobies. I don't recommend FF14 though because SquareEnix is a greedy ass company and the game is expensive AF. Also, the gameplay sucks. XD At least you can try it for free though (which I did, and didn't like it). But like I said, you think GW2 is fun and Lost Ark looks good, so....
My favorite MMO's are ESO, New World, and ArcheAge. Take it with a grain of salt.
Archage before they sold the thunderstruck saplings in the cash shop was an amazing game.
The fun of GW2 in my experience is that theres always something to do, multiple events, timed stuff, little fun minigames, jump puzzles. Like if you have a big community of friends and multiple people each doing different activities, its so easy to just pop into each group and join them in their activity for like an hour and then pop into the next group
Thats the kinda mmo i enjoy, where theres so much to do
Then theres the zone scaling, so high levels can still get nice rewards from big events in low level areas
FF14's way of forced story aggravates me, like im a massive FF fan, and have FF tattoos as well, but ive been a wow head for years and when i come into an mmo, i wanna grind to max level doing whatever i want, not have a story campaign shoved down my throat
ESO's always a solid one, i havent played it in ages, but anytime i have felt like coming back, just droppin a bit of moolah for a month of premium, which out of all the games with monthly premiums, ESO's by far feels the best, will always net me a fun time
The way ESO handles its monthly premium is just superb
GW2 is definately a top mmo. I dunno how new world is still hanging
thrones and liberty in two months apparently? or at least soon
yea korean mmo released by ncsoft and amazon-triple red flag, i wouldnt expect less then mobile game features, extreme monetization and mandatory p2w to even progress
Apparently it has autoplay, which means dead on arrival for me.
aprently it got ability to stream on your phone so probably that is why
maybe they will turn that options off in west release but i doubt it
yea we will see, i would love to try it, never played any lineage game i was crazy WoW fanboy ๐
I mean I hope it's good, but I'm not holding my breath.
gw2 is a stain on the honor of gw1
I worked on GW2 around launch. It was a fun job
true
GW2 is fantastic, but GW1 is god tier
SO YOURE THE REASON IT WAS SHIT ON LAUNCH
Nah, my team was the one that tested the dungeons, we had like 40 pages of feedback that were active when launch happened
We were just QA, no one listened to us
Felt pretty vindicated when the Zhaitan fight was generally broken and reviled though ๐ We told them it wasn't ready and it shouldn't be active at release.
middle management be like: ship it
How about all the dungeons that had safe spot bugs so you just ran zerker gear to speed clear them all
oh yeah, and bosses that used basically copy pasted abilities and all sorts of other problems. For example: One of the bosses in the Orrian Exploration dungeon literally just used the rogue ultimate dagger throw ability. It was a problem because you were supposed to hide behind boxes to avoid the ability, but the problem was that they didn't update the ability's script. If one of you was out of position, the "dagger" would hit you and ricochet to another person and instantly kill you both.
There were like 3 game designers that built all 40ish dungeon paths, they basically only had time to fix crash bugs and that's it.
My team was the only one that could even get through the dungeons, everyone else was so bad.
The one fifth tier tower I got paid off, big time.
damn u sir are no chill ๐คฃ
does that mean you worked as staff in arena net? and do you still work in the industry if I may ask? @teal flame
Yeah, ArenaNet was my first game industry job (and my first job out of college)
I've gone back and forth between games and tech work, but I'm back in games now, thankfully
i will also never forgive arenanet for nerfing soul reaping and the minion cap
Having fun in Everspace 2. Has loot like an arpg but a space fighter game. Story is whatever, but gameplay is enjoyable.
I would buy it but i'm a cheap bastard
Waiting for a discount ๐
I will get spacebourne 2 as well sooner or later
I saw a video on this game recently; actually kinda nutty for a one man show.
Defenintly rough around the edges, but still damn impressive.
Anyone play any Blizzard game? I can't log into battle.net, there's a queue, anyone else?
(This is the most active discord I'm in, no good Blizzard ones to ask)
Not currently, can't afford wow time unfortunately and d4 isn't out yet
Battlenet? Gross.
Bnet has two of my fav arpgs: D2R and D3 ๐
d4 changes go brrrr
so many changes are going now that you won't recognize the game when launch compared to beta
I love D3 and Hearthstone and used to play WoW ๐ I'm a filthy Blizzard fan
But D4..........not a fan ๐ฆ
for me, I enjoyed a lot d4 in beta, d3 was ok but I'm done with it and don't see myself coming back to it.
I just watched about the changes to d4, massive changes and rebalancing
Just read their news article myself a couple days ago
Good things
And didn't buff melee, nerfedthe others this is good
WW got buffed though?
Melee was definitely buffed lol
Essentially they buffed the class(es) I don't give a crap about lol. I'll only be playing mage/necro
they buffed a sorc skill tho. and buffed necro book of the dead
but not much is said how much and what exactly
I'm sure thats not the extent of the changes, just noting the ones the community was so whiny about
The only reason people weren't using their summon skeleton skill to summon the priest to buff/heal is because they're too dumb and/or lazy to read the skill so they didn't even know it's a thing, and since people aren't pushing Q-or-whatever enough, they have to nerf it
it may be bad fix in end, can't really argue when can't test. we will see who was right in end
True
Blizzard is still currently experiencing DDOS attacks. I haven't tried to play in like 3 or 4 days and there's a queue, this time with a message lol
Damage of one or two skills in not "buffed" in this context
The entirety
Of all melee classes
Was not buffed to the same power as sorc/necro had in the beta
F.ex the entirety of melee druid skill sets were regarded as trash for damage, the only straight buff they got is the damage of companions iirc
Many people were saying it was the lowest dps melee
I wish druid didn't exist in D4. I hate that wannabe necro class.
I'm kidding ofc since you love druid so much >:
It does look like they are leaning towards nerfing the ranged more than buffing the melee, esp since they mentioned how many people said necro and sorc felt too strong
If I get the same experience and difficulty that I got as druid during the beta, in the release, I'll be very happy
Wolcen is better than Last Epoch , for the $5 price wolcen has best story , great graphics , flashy cool looking costumes/skills/weapons , the game has soul , meahwhile LE is total loot/scam for $20 , game is under early access from 2 years - smart marketing idea to fool players . Graphics look like 1990 , skills are boring, enemies feel like killing tissue papers , no story at all , finding quest locations in map is annoying af , only good thing is skill build system and thats it , game has no soul
I want to believe you are being sarcastic. If not I'll let you know that even Hero Siege is better than wolcen other than the shiny graphics that come with wolcen.
Wolcen isn't horrible. The story, graphics and some of the builds were pretty cool
Even enjoyed the city building aspect
But it's development team really botched it
In the hands of a larger company could have been a great contender against D4 and POE
more like the beginning flopped too hard to even come back up
but who knows, no man's sky arguably flopped harder than wolcen was, but still somehow managed to revived itself
Well they had Sony backing them
That's the big difference
yeah, more than powerful enough to pull a sunk ship back to float
And they were pissed about the public backlash due to the lead dev basically lying in interviews. So my understanding is Sony essentially forced them to fix the game
more importantly, sony has the power to make the public know that the issues have been fixed, no such capability with wolcen to play the game of marketing and publicity
Ya true
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wolcenstudio/umbra if wolcen even delivered half of what the kickstarter entailed in a fast fashion it'd be pretty dope
after 3 years with less content added than in a quarterly update of last epoch, you need to stop hoping for them to do a "no man sky"
(and it's the wrong channel -> #arpg-discussion )
Chronicon is for sure 100 times better than wolcen
Even slormancer
I thought sour had a hot take, but dam, this is an even hotter take
I consider Hero Siege to be one of the worst arpg's of all time
Worst ARPG of all time? Hmm... that's a tough call.
Worst ARPG of all time is Diablo Immortal
Wolcen has always been terrible since it launched. Kudos to the devs for trying to bring it back, but they failed, and they gave up, so it's always going to be a distant memory if the history of ARPG's
I liked hero siege more than wolcen. Way more.
if you deleted p2w aspects of D:I, it could be enjoyable thing.
worst if you compared to other pc-focused arpg, which d:i is not
why should people compare mobile aprg to pc arpg in the first place, they are 2 completely different markets
Because d:i released on pc too
same thing if I use nox player or simular android simulator and play another mobile arpg on pc, can't change the nature of it being a mobile game first and foremost
and when comparing to other mobile arpg, d:i is actually pretty high ranking, if not arguably the best mobile arpg out there
I never said it was the worst PC ARPG, I said it was the worst ARPG period. I was not aware there was even other mobile ARPGs to compare it to, lol. (But can you really even consider them a game?)
Yes
Also there are many mobile arpgs
Eternium, Bladebound, Nordicandia, AnimA, ones i have played
I did also play DI but its so rediculously pay to win
Esp in comparison to the others
not sure why you belittle mobile game market that much to not consider their games a proper game
of all gaming revenue, mobile market takes up to 50% revenue, while pc is only 22% (console is 28%)
Sadly, I know they hog the market, and most "games" that come out these days want to cater to them. Still doesn't mean that as an ACTUAL gamer I have to respect them
you don't have to, money doesn't mean respect
but deep down you know, companies ONLY care about real money, not real games
real games doesn't mean much to them
You're right money doesn't mean respect my whole point, that's why I don't consider them games
Why are there companies that make games on PC and console but not mobile at all?
experience and lack of experience thereof
same as ICE cars vs EV cars, traditional ICE car makers are losing so badly in the new market that they almost give up
they do what they're good at, and when venturing into new market, only god can save them
Well it's definitely refreshing to me when a new game comes out and it's not on mobile and it does really well. For example, Elden Ring. Hogwarts Legacy. I think Last Epoch is probably pretty successful too if I had to guess. We also know PoE is successful and Diablo 4 inevitably will be (though I doubt it'll bring in as much as DI). So maybe the mobile market isn't everything...yet
don't think d:i brought that much profit to blizzard just yet, maybe needs a few more years
d3 alone brought roughly $3b to blizzard, d:i will take some time
now d:i is barely above $400m iicr
and from current data, d4 sales is expected to exceed d3 + d3 ros
I still think D4 is a bad game catering to filthy casuals, but at least it's not a mobile cash grab so it's one step up from dirt tier.
There is such thing as enjoyable mobile games
Don't you guys have phones??
those music games are my favorite, like deemo, a true legend
Im a huge fan of Cytus myself
Deemo was good too, jsut not good enough for me to buy more of it
actualyl went and bought the switch version of cytus, too, comes with all the things
but as far as mobile ARPGs go, nordicandia and Eternium are both really good as entirely free players. Ive not seen any pay-obstructions in nordicandia at all in my play. Eternium has a few but you can reasonably earn them in-game
AnimA is also pretty good as a free experience, there are a few things that appear to be pay exclusive, but the game without any of them is solid af, and doesnt feel super grindy bc you didnt pay
AnimA has a d2 feel, yet new still
I agree. Slay the Spire is great. As is Stardew Valley. And Epic Battle Fantasy 5
Slay the Spire was on PC and I think even consoles first
Disgusting heretical statement. D4 is life
Yep and same with the other games I mentioned lol. Meaning the only good mobile games (imo) are those that got ported from pc to mobile.
I agree. And I'll throw another one in the mix that USED to be good but it's giving into its mobile users so it's not as good now, but...Hearthstone.
As StS isn't a live service game, don't have to worry about that with them. Same with Stardew Valley, I think (never played it) and not familar with Epic Battle Fantasy 5 ๐
I'm sorry you feel this way. But truly think to yourself, what makes you like D4? Is it just because of the Diablo/Blizzard name? Or do you really think it's fun?
It's actually pretty fun
I had alot of fun
played werewolf druid, game had a methodical approach due to mobs having skill mechs
its what ive wanted from ARPGs, and have tried to mimic in other ARPGs like POE
and it wasnt a boring face-mash of wiping screens of enemies
ive both loved and hated different blizzard games, but I really enjoyed d4
The itemization and skills feel very bland and boring to me. ๐ I played a mage the first weekend and got to lvl 25 and played a necromancer the 2nd weekend and quit around lvl 17 cuz I just was bored ๐
ofc you were bored, those classes were OP as fuck
we belong to older generations when pc games were the king, nowadays, people born after 1995, more than half of them never touch a pc game in their life, the percentage is even more skewed from players born after 2000, their whole gaming experience is largely with mobile/console
out of my 15y playing arpg, I don't hesitate to admit that d4 beta alone (2 weekends) gave me more fun than the thousands of hours of previous arpg playtime combined
when it comes to mass fun and casual fun, blizzard is just that much of an expert, so much that other arpg makers have to resort to niche fun that serves much smaller playerbase
"bland" = simple, "boring" = straightforward
it's a matter of viewpoint
it all depends on why do you play game (and specifically arpg)
most play games to have fun, contrary to their already complicated work life, only a very niche playerbase (aka the minority) needs a game to be deeper and more complicated than their job
it felt like a simpler, easier souls-like but played as an ARPG, to me
press space bar to dodge =)), bringing souls-like feature into arpg
nah wait, it's not souls-like, it's an arcade fighting feature, something existing for like 40-50 years already
its more of that most enemies had attacks that you are suppsoed to dodge by moving
causing lots of damage or stuns if you dont
telegraphic attacks, they exist in all respectable arpg
yeah but most either invalidate them entirely by making it a screen-wipe faceroll
or they just dont matter that much
POE doesnt really have them, not as commonplace anyway, mob skills rarely come into play even if you arent instakilling the screen
D3 they both rarely matter and you are screenwiping
LE they are somewhat sparse to see, primarily only on large mob base types
but i liek the direction
but in d4, what I saw of it, it's very common for mobs to have it
and soon, even dungeon structures will have it
That's extremely sad ๐ฆ I'm so afraid companies will stop making PC games...
it all depends on if pc market still can provide good money in the next 20-30 years, they are first and foremost business, not charity
I highly doubt that, that's just not possible, you're extremely overexaggerating to try to make the game look good but it's having the opposite effect as now I can't take you seriously anymore.
No, I wasn't using OP skills or anything. The game is boring because loot drops are boring and skill trees are boring, not because I supposedly played OP classes
Activision Blizzard is leading the world in swapping from PC gaming to mobile gaming. Candy Crush, Hearthstone, Diablo Immortal, etc...maybe Microsoft will change that IDK.
I think the main reason why kids these days don't play PC games is because PC's are expensive, why should a parent buy their kid a $1500 PC when a $300 phone will provide more entertainment at 1/5 the price?
Hopefully the people becoming adults and getting into PC gaming will be enough to keep it thriving. And I do see a lot of 18-25 year olds playing PC games so I'm hopeful..
No one buys a $300 phone lol. Kids these days be having the latest flagship phones starting at minimum $600. That's nearly the same price as the Steamdeck lol.
I don't know how I should take that, it's not like I'm convincing you to like d4, in fact, I talked to a lot of people and advise them to refund the game because they don't belong to the casual mass and can't seem to enjoy the casual fun
do kids in developed countries buy anything other than a $1k iphone nowadays
Consoles
I don't mind fun casual games, but this one is fun. Not all the games I play are as complex as Last Epoch (which isn't even THAT complex...)
A $600 phone still > $600 steamdeck because you can do a lot more with it. You know, in a parent's eyes
I was just saying parents nowadays buy the expensive phones for their kids
IDK I'm not a parent. I wish they would buy them PC's too and tell them that's what you're supposed to game with. XD I'd do that if I was a parent.
never, best they will buy their kids a laptop with pathetic gaming power
laptop is ways better for school activities and group works, and useful even when you start working, can't say the same thing about pc, simply because it's immobile and stuck in place, and there are only that few jobs that can work from home
and there's a worse case, they buy a macbook with m1, m2 chips and then they realize that games can't be played on those chips
(Not sure if I'm in the right place. This is a Dicussion about another game I tested)
I've been streaming but no luck getting more viewers with 4mbps whilist playing POE, Sniper Elite series, Doom. So I've decided to quit the stream and tested my new NZXT Game Capture Card. I own 2 pc's, now I don't have to worry using 2 OBS connecting one another due to the network connection issues. With the NZXT I can be able to record my gameplays for Last Epoch and I'm super happy!!! Quality is great!
I'm not much of a talker, I'm more of a Action player than a Talker and I don't know very much about discussing gameplays. So I rather record and have fun!
Plus it was out of sync after like 1 hr or so using the NDI.
PoE starting levels of similar level of punishing
D4 we only got to play until level 25
We will have to see how the endgame is
lmao the fact that u call $600 dollar phone a flagship phone shows that ur kinda out of touch with mobile gaming market
inb4 "minimum $600"
no
Why would you even need a phone that's over $600
Alright if I'm wrong I'm wrong. So I take it any cheap phone would count as a gaming mobile? I only made my point because the kids I know have iPhone 13s and similarly priced phones which are usually well over ยฃ1k.
what else but to show off
which the secondary and high school kids need the most
man, I remember back then when I entered high school, I got a $20 phone
A higher priced phone usually has better battery and performance. There was a massive difference between me buying a cheap xperia phone which lasted me about a year vs a flagship xperia phone which has lasted me over 4 years now. No need to replace my phone though my battery does tend to get finished after about 1 and a half days (mostly idle and not being used).
many of my friends still have the so-called flagship of huawei, which is 50% cheaper than iphone, but last longer than iphone
I would say performance/price, chinese phones are still the king, the only down side is your personal data is at risk, whether that risk is true or not depending on how good US propaganda is, coz no idea why CIA hasn't managed to show a definite proof yet
Well one thing I know about apple phones is they are only worth the price because of the brand. I'd never buy an iphone for myself (unless for some reason it would be deemed necessarily but can't think of anything really...).
the newer iphone has better processor and 1 of the longest battery life in the market, but those are about the few benefits I really care about, but not enough to convince me to buy at the price
Yea in all honesty if I do buy a new phone I'm going to try looking for a phone between ยฃ200-300 value. I dislike buying phones that are too cheap but also dislike buying super expensive phones. Also backmarket exists
because we
well
some of we
arent poor
and we want the good good
i also have the $650 steamdeck
which btw runs last epoch great
iphones for me are funny
i dont understand the hatred for EGS when steam is basically the same thing. Yet at the same time I hate Iphone and only stick to androids, they're both phones
never had an iphone for me either, all previous iphone had disastrous battery life, only iphone 14 improves on that but my current phone is good and going for a few more years, so I just don't bother
Had an iphone 4 and SE throughout high school, playin Jelly Car in class were the daysssss
And then friends kept hyping up androids and swapped later on, now i use Google Pixels
Think my current phone is a Google Pixel 6 Pro
Its funny though, all the cool new tech shit in phones like "shake your phone to activate this system" or "konami code your phone to video call someone" all that shit i have turned off
My phones basically just an overpriced smartphone from a bygone era cause i have all the new tech shit turned off
I just have it for the inner hardware basically
Watch movies on my phone in 4K
Play extremely detailed games, all that jazz
Nowadays I'm very simple, buy the cheapest galaxy S until broken, then buy another latest galaxy S
It's so much cheaper than a typical iphone, but still a topnotched flagship nonetheless
Also if you wait about a year or two since a specific non iphone releases you could get it fairly cheap on backmarket (assuming it's available in your country).
Yea nvm backmarket might be a UK only thing
I pay mines under 200 eur usually
I don't see what i would get more spending more money on that piece of shit
nah, once I buy it new, I want it to be the latest, so that it doesn't become obsolete fast
this era is the era where software determines if your hardware is outdated
Steam didn't pay to make stuff anounced for other platforms go egs exclusive. They also provide actual client features compared to egs
Poe starts way faster though, and within 3 zones youre face smashing enemies again
After you leave act 1 no difficulty remains until endgame big bosses
they did say they make d4 combat slower on purpose
with correct emphasis and decision making during combat
instead of 1 button clearing screen playstyle
Yeah
Which i love
And hope they keep
If they dont say a ything tomorrow about speeding it up i will be buying it
The beta had perfect pacing for what i want from an arpg, playing as werewolf
I like the slower, more tactical take. Though at the same time I think there's a big mismatch between classes. Like Sorcerers and Necros were just annihilating everything, where barbs and druids were slow and ponderous
I didnt have time to play Barb, but werewolf druid was dope
I could stand to have had higher auto damage on the companions ( which they did change ). The wolves' auto damage was tiny but their command damage was huge
and while we (and I) still only have early game to compare with, I feel liek the life gain from skills that arent the howl should be increased a bit
in longer fights they did give a noticable amount of damage by the end (without command), but in shorter ones it was very negligible, though the toughness they gave me was very noticable
yeah, that's why they just nerf sorc and necro to the ground
Fine by me, I had no intention of playing either ๐
As long as they get rid of the infinite, invulnerable blood mist, it's probably fine.
well if you don't play you shouldn't care about how they balance the game either
today is dev stream day about endgame if I'm not wrong
I wasn't really intersted in playing the game but the fact they're going to just make skeletons die more because people are too lazy to press the button is lame. I never even used corpse explosion. But I've never been fond of games that FORCE their necromancer classes to use dead bodies constantly anyway, and seems they want to FORCE people to do that just like in Diablo 3 (which is why I like the Witch Doctor, not Necromancer)
But like I said, I probably won't play the game anyway. Every step they take just makes me less and less likely. ๐ Which is sad, because I was looking forward to it before the beta. Oh well.
it's the norm in every single arpg that necro summons are going to be squishier than a living summon
people criticize a feature that exists in every single arpg, but yeah it's blizzard, so we have to trash talk them
and that's the wrong assumption to think they nerf minion hp because people are lazy to press button
every single one not pressing summon button when playing d4 summon necro is just playing it wrong
there are like 80% of people who played summon necro during the 2nd beta, and only after it ended, did they know that the summon skeleton skill has an active part to it, only the 20% truly cared to read how the skill works
people nowadays, I don't know, they just don't read stuffs anymore
and no worry mate, while you don't play, I think they will have at least 3k hours of my time in the game, if not more
the fact they're so easy to resummon, should mean you should resummon them often
druid minions f.ex should be tougher, because you cant simply resummon them, they're straight up gone for a while
necro is never without their minions, but they arent invincible
they're skeletons, after all
I'm not sure what the issue here, are we not agreeing and saying exactly the same thing?
That's fine, if you want to waste your time on mindless trash like D4, I'll be playing LE
it's litterally opposite of mindless
yeah, calling people having fun "wasting time", how much more elitist can you be
Not every game has "Squishy minions", if you want to invest into minion health and health regen, resistances/armor, etc. your minions can live a long time in GOOD games like LE and PoE, so yes I can blame Blizzard for being the exception and not allowing this
How so?
the actual combat is quite methodical
so, you have leaked info of how squishy the new minions will be? I don't know you're the insider of d4 dev team
or did you not read any of that
Literally everything you say is elitist, so...
What do you mean "read"? I played the game for like 40 hours. It's boring AF
No. But they said they will die more often. I don't want them to die more often. Thus the issue.
let me quote a few phrases from your answers in the past few days "filthy casuals", "waste time" and see who is the elitist here
many of the normal mobs have attack mechanics, and the unique bosses have similarly, unique attack mechanics, and way more of them
you don't simply call other people "filthy"
and they actually matter, unlike d3
no need to explain much to him, he's not the targeted audience of d4 anyway
d4 is never targeted at the elitist gamers
The unique bosses? All 3 different designs they have?
there are far more than 3 unique bosses dude
Simply untrue
even if we cut out ALL the instanced bosses (including story bosses), there's three
two stronghold bosses and the world boss
that was just in the 5% of the map we have
I'm not elitist for wanting a game to be good. The fact that people like you are encouraging Blizzard to make a crappy game is the reason we have crappy games
its crappy to you
"crappy" is subjective
It's crappy, period
that's an opinion
in your opinion
I dislike POE actually
I even like Ruthless in POE
for 99% of people, its condensed crappy
its all subjective
yeah, everyone has different tastes
It's not fathomable to me for someone to like both D4 AND PoE, let alone ruthless PoE
You have to be trolling just the sake of arguement
jsut because i disagree with you?
Maybe keikakujin asked you to come in here and help them argue with me
But I'm done, later guys
I have multiple level 70 ruthless characters
Talking to the 2 of you is like talking to a dead horse, or something
you just can't accept that other people are less narrow minded and less elitist than you, thus they can enjoy a lot more things than you do
lucky, you are just the minority of gamers
just another person that cant fathom that other people can like what they dislike and everyone's still correct
I've seen alot like you, another person said the exact thing when i said i traded a mirror for a 3 flask mageblood
people should learn to respect what others like and dislike, as long as it's not illegal
instead of using the mirror to buy mad gear
pc gamers looking down on mobile gamers, elitist gamers looking down on casual gamers, and so on, when will this cyber racism end
generally semi-casual myself
in terms of POE, i play SSF (and sometimes ruthless), I rarely trade, and i always self-build
really not a casual thing
my friends i play with trade and use guides, that seems casual
it doesnt really change anything
if anything at all, i am simply in a better position to help them if needs be
but I dont do meta, dont know half the league mechanics, only killed quest pinnacles (of eater/exarch)
kinda between
it's funny how if you don't spend 12h a day you become casual.
No, it's just that Diablo 4 requires no thought, therefore it's casual
Nothing to do with how many hours a day you spend playing
i really liked poe before 3.15. even bought some stuff and grinded a lot, but overtime stuff become so bloated and after bit of break i was lost when i came back.
yeah, compared to poe where you just copy paste someone builds?
poe requires immense time to get into and asks you to check stuff every three months, if you take break you are out of loop.
I agree PoE definitely requires the 12 hours per day to not be a casual. There's so much grinding required to be able to craft anything or do anything yourself that it's just not feasible for most people. The response of "Oh just trade for stuff" is also garbage because not everyone likes engaging with that sort of mechanic.
i'm not streamer who gets all day to play game to get stuff, nor im die hard to grind optimal routes etc. Game actually punishes you if you are slow but makes you to go slower each league and if you don't put stats into some new defence mechanics then tough luck. There was point where it was perfect, there was spot for more hardcore players who had more time on hand and wanted to min max and casuals could slowly but also get into game.
ggg doesn't really know what they are doing after revverting some stuff but actually keeping them. like they tried to put archnemesis but later took it off.
and poe also requires no thought after you make/pick your build so idk you seem to just hate on d4 because it's not excel simulator.
Bosses still require thought though(assuming youre not superjuiced and cam instaphase them)
But yeah, just farming with most modern builds is pretty thoughtless and effortless
Evenvwithout trading you can go rf and just walk through everything with shitty gear, only needing to stop for resistant enemies(whuch is automatable)
But for a combat game to be good imo, the combat itself must be fun to do
And base mobs both not imstantly dying and also posing actual threats via attack mechs in d4 vet mode makes it fun, at least for me
Besides, while the skill trees are super basic, the paragon boards are rather complex for a diablo game
The latest stream had a bunch of info about it
Basically a poe level investment mechanic
Yeah, I'm definitely going to pick up D4 for this reason. It should be enjoyable for at least a leveling playthrough.
I do hope their execution further into the game is as fun for me as their 1-25 execution
Such a refreshing change of pace
Normal mobs ctually mattering at all, having to respecr the power of things
Actual mechanical difficulty all throughout the game and not just at bosses
Yeah, definitely. I like actually being engaged when I play. I feel like PoE is too binary sometimes, where either it's a complete faceroll, or you're instantly dead, and there's just no in between.
while most stuff was not that difficulty, you had to be wary of stuff. Apparently higher tiers are going to be even more punishing and its not goign to be only a simple hp/dmg/res buff but new mechanics making even normals mobs more difficult.
Diablo 4 seems too easy to me but most importantly, there's no variety. Gear feels boring and samey, all the skills feel samey with very little variance. I couldn't even get to 25 on Necromancer because I got bored and stopped playing well before the weekend was over
Well , what did you expect?
poe quality lmao.
It's blizz
I knew it was shit the moment it was announced
As long as D4 does not clutter our screens with heaps of useless items to slow the game down for us then I'd prefer Grim Dawn level of quality.
LE is good too
Say it again, game way easy because you were playing an OP class
not OP skills, basically the entirety of sorc and necro were OP, and have been nerfed to some degree
In a Diablo game? they've ALWAYS been basic, all three previous games
most amount of build depth we would have is paragon boards which we didnt have access to, but are still not very complex
its conceptually just radius jewels on a passive tree from POE
I disagree
D2 was genre defining, not basic
something can be genre defining and also basic
You can think about it as basic just today in 2023
I played when it was out and trust me, it was mind blowing back then
stat system was super basic, skilsl were incredibly basic until LOD, but still fairly basic
They were always very easy to understand, I would know, i started playing it when i was very young
played it in about year 2000 myself
maybe 2001?
Yeah
gear was less basic, but still very straightforwards
if a 4 year old can successfully play a game and know what they're doing, it's basic
A 4 yr old can't play d2
I did
I palyed it before then, but 4 was wheni actually had my own pc to play it with
I doubt you were enjoying the full experience
Yeah ofc but being accessible doesn't imply being dull or watered
a simple game doesnt mean it's dull or watered down
Yeah
D2 might be pretty intuitive but is has some character building
D3 had zero character building
D4 idk
it did on release
I remember release was just a chaotic mess
yes, but you werent lowkey forced into specific setups, even without set bonuses involved
Y but there was kinda 1 way to play it and that's it
Those barbs and monks zdp tanks
I only played monk in those days, but i felt entirely fine using whatever skills to kill with
Demon hunter damage dealer
Was really bad
Then they changed the whole thing but they introduced the worse itemization ever lol
it actually felt like just preference, whereas now no matter what you do, sets or not, you end up with the same setup bc you have no other appropriate options
Yeah
f.ex I can only find a way to build a non-set wolf demonhunter in one way
and every slot and cube effect has to be exact, no options exist that are even close
and it's pretty much the same for others
D4's skill system itself, while the choices feel impactful and personally fun, there are not many choices, not much investment opportunity costs in the end. Gear's got a noticable impact in actual gameplay, very little sheet-presence, Leggies are interesting esp in the way they're basically enchanted rare items. I'm curious to see an example of the two higher item tiers
the paragon boards have decent depth to them, what with the sockets/glyphs, rotation, and such
nothing compared to POE ofc, after all that's litterally just one item type in POE
there are leggies, and basically two better tiers of leggies, sacred and ancestral and there are uniques like shako.
legendaries are just rares stat-wise
I wouldnt doubt the effects can be applied to sacred and ancestral, but the legendary status doesnt mean the stats are stronger liek in D3
arpg greatness wise, diablo series will never be up to LE, POE, grim dawn, and a few others, nor are they intended to be
but it's gonna be more entertaining that most mentioned names
imho, people expecting a university course out of a game will forever be the minority of the players
most people play game for the entertainment anyway
true. though diablo ip holds special place for many people. without diablo there wouldn't be poe, gd or le or other games. there were some similar games but d2 hammered down the concept. diablo got this specific grim and horror vibe, it was less in d3 where there was too much high fantasy power tripping, but d4 feels like its coming back down to earth. Poe starts nicely but quickly you start slaying gods and running across cosmos, generally mess. GD got closest to d2 feeling with really brutal stuff. LE while powertripping with time stuff tires to keep things relatively down which is nice.
Been having an absolute blast in Against the storm. I've been skeptical of town builders including frost punk but this one is genuinely fun and I'm glad I bought it. Though tbf the repetition can get a bit boring at times.
has been eying on this game for quite some time, it's on sale now so I'm not sure if I should grab it
hmm I just notice that they have another game in EA since late 2017 and still in EA, so now I'm a bit skeptical of their games ever coming out of EA
but both games have massive steam ratings, so that's a plus
If you like frost punk or other city builders you might like this one.
And I didn't know they had any other games lol
Oh and AtS feels like the game is complete already tbf. Dunno why they still got in in EA unless they plan on adding more upgrades/races.
Just checked and Eremite games only has AtS under their belt. You were looking at Hooded horse which is the publisher and they have published another EA game: Empire of the undergrowth.
can't say I'm a big fan of city builder games, but I'm a huge fan of civilization series
AtS is a rogue-lite city builder, you found a city, meet its demands and then go start a new one. You get meta resources to buy meta upgrades and every few cities the map resets so you have to plan out where you're placing the city in the first place as that determines what meta resources you'll get, what resources you get in the city, and how far away from the map center you can go because you need to daisy chain outwards
Same. I don't like "RTS". If it's turn based that's fine. RTS you're either being inefficient by never pausing, or pausing often and then long periods of boredom between pauses
I don't mind RTS, but not the current RTS. If 100 years later player can play RTS using his brain to directly control the game instead of thru mouse and keyboard, that will be my ideal game
At the moment, APM affects a little bit too much how good you are at playing RTS
I want my brain to matter, not my finger reaction speed
Depends on the rts
Age of mythology is a bit less than aoe f.ex, and warcraft is much less than either
Since youre so pop limited
Aoe2? Forget about it so much micro
I find turn based games a lot more boring in general. Civ games are good when I have cheated (single player mode) but so far in red alert 2 and AtS I have not cheated.
Ofc there are some exceptions where I love turn based games like D:OS2, Chrono Trigger (and similar games) and Roguelike deckbuilders (but I hate normal deckbuilders like Yugioh).
Tainted Grail?
It was ok
I am playing tyranny rn
It is lit
Speaking of Civ games, Humankind is on sale right now for $9.99. Not sure if I should buy it. I kinda liked Endless Legends but I feel like it's not as good as that either.
I hate the concept of that game, like at certain stage of the game, you can turn the whole population from egyptian into roman, like wtf is that
yeah it's strange lol
Honestly the biggest factor for me when it comes to AtS is the fact that runs last somewhere between an hour and three hours (very rare is a run less than an hour lol). On the other hand in civ/turn based city builders: Waiting simulator intensifies.
I like runs that last over 3 hours ๐ But I know AtS has meta progression too, something you don't see in Civ
If I'm gunna have a game that lasts over 3 hours it'd have to be an arpg or gta 5 (campaign) or something. Not a turn based city builder ๐
I got so bored of civ 5 that I just cheated myself money and stuff lol
Lol. I take it you like D:OS2 though
Yes. In that game I spend around 60% of my time pickpocketing.
Only did one complete playthrough though.
As Fane
Too see my fav games on here https://overwhelmingly-positive.com/
See overwhelmingly positive rated games on steam in a list
I need to check with friend what game she was playing, but a single run was taking her multiple days at like 10 hours a day to complete
I would ask her what the alien game was called and forget the name, but it wasnt an alien game, it was just her fighting other factions and aliens would swoop in and take up like 2 days of her time
I asked her what the "alien" game was and she told me she wants to strangle me
Chaos Galaxy 2
Buddy and i have never finished a run of that, we absolutely love the game, and we love doing modded playthroughs, but we can never ever finish a playthrough before he gets bored
We've gotten to the final act once, before he got bored, so all this tells me, is that i need to find cooler mods
In fact we havent played dos2 in a hot minute, if i bring it up with him, he'll 100% want to play it, and we'll prob hit the final act before getting bored again
I'm planning to get Age of Wonders 4, it comes out next week but I've never played an AoW game before.
I always get bored in act 2, it's so long and the combat starts to become pretty stale after a while.
Yeah
Same lol
I didn't enjoy it due to combat (though when you go summoner you can't lose at level 10+ lol)
But I just loved talking to someone with one toon and then pickpocketing with another. Then do a quick getaway and make sure the thief gets and separate from the rest of the party. So when they check the bags they can't check the thief as he is no longer there.
I mostly played Co-op, my friend who I was playing with hated it when I went summoner because i always got like 8 extra turns ๐
That's a his problem. Summons are super fun lol.
I do have an issue with the game though and that is how somehow enemies can see that I am or have a party member who is undead and start casting healing on him lol
Especially with Fane and how he can conceal his look to resemble humans
Yeah, enemies cheat like that in a lot of games
Yeah they shouldn't know Fane is undead if he has his mask on
I liked summoning in DOS2, what little I played of it, and also in P:WotR I liked playing an Inquisitor Monster Tactician
One time I tried to make Camelia a Monster Tactician but she couldn't cast spells so I just quit cuz there went my whole build lol. Come to find out, it was a bug. >.<
They fixed it like the next day lol
perfection, d4 will allow campaign skip after 1st playthru, at least here's 1 thing LE falls behind
I wonder what the leveling experience will be like without the campaign. I'm generally a campaign enjoyer because I like the feeling of build progression, so I wouldn't want to just create a character at level 60 or something.
campaigning with first 2-3 char is ok, but I absolutely detest playing it for the 100th time like in LE
no, you still start from level 1, just like d3
remember, d4 monsters scale with your level, so you don't have that big of a problem leveling, just don't wander around to min area level 30 when you're level 1 (coz it won't scale down) and you'll be fine
I haven't played D3 since launch ๐คทโโ๏ธ
well basically you will be in the game at level 1 but with no campaign quests to do, straight going to do endgame activities like dungeon, helltide and so on to level up
what makes it not possible for LE to skip campaign is that endgame activities don't scale down with player's low level
For now at least. They may re-evaluate it later on down the line when they're more focused on endgame, seasons, and replayability
you can make character in campaign mode but skip any time, like do some stuff and skip later. you can do sidequests and other stuff that is unlocked after campaign
imagine 1 day LE will be like that: level 1 at end of time and straight into mono runs
it could be pretty good. honestly, more options is better.
D4 campaign skip will most likely not skip you to nightmare and helltide etc
Those require world state 3
I imagine it takes all rhe intro quests, unlock quests, and all that shit out
So you can just go dungeon and explore and shit at your liesure
you're right, so only dungeon and world events to work your way to 50, but honestly, that sounds ways faster than doing campaign
Yeah
there is this quest tree too, sidequests are untouched, fields of hatred and helltides
most people will definitely start with dungeon anyway, to unlock the legendary aspects that matter to their classes and builds
Yea I mean if campaign is shit then I'll definitely skip. But if it's a good campaign like GD then I will probably just do the campaign all the time since you start from level 1 regardless.
I have a feeling the campaign will be mediocre though.
tbh, even if the campaign is the best in the world, I'll never play more than once if given choice
well there's a reason why Crate introduced the merit tokens to easily unlock epic and ultimate difficulties for GD
in ToME, sun paladin's Judgement might be the funniest skill
since it summons a homing ball of SUN for each enemy in sight
uncapped
Oh shit ABK deal blocked
The hell am i looking at
Seems to be a text based turn based rpg?
Tales of Maj'eyal I believe
Makes sense since they said "ToME" but they said "ToME" acting like everybody would know what it is.
I'm a huge turn-based RPG fan and still never heard of it. lol (or maybe heard of it but couldn't have remembered the name and certainly know nothing about)
It used to be called Tales of Middle Earth, but they had to change the name. It's real good
I like the name Tales of Middle Earth because it's easier to pronounce. No idea how to pronounce Maj'eyal ๐ But of all the bad names I see for games, this one is ok either way
not just the name, the entire content
oh this was a conversation from.. counts under breath seven hours ago, alright okay -_-
i highly recommend finding a copy of TOME 2.3.5 and giving that a crack, if i recall that was the last best iteration when it was still tolkien

Yup hehe
Why is this familiar to me? Did ssethtzeentach talk about this?
I bought Pillars of Eternity 2, i've played a couple hours of it ages ago, but since buying it like 2 months ago i havent touched it yet
Big party games like that i always try to go at solo with 1 character, or if the game has romance, 2 characters
But i wanna mod the shit out of it first
I never got through the tutorial or first area of pillar of eternity 1
I must have tried three or four different strategies. It was a while ago though
Of course, this was before i got super into theorycrafting, but i had my party setup such a specific way, that i softlocked myself into being able to bypass a FUCKING DOOR
Haha. That sucks
Right at the start of the game
Did you buy it early?
I think i pirated it way back in the day
It was... really difficult when they first released it. Later patches made it easier as I recall
Back in the day, i bought like 90% of the games i pirated, i just had a shit rig and wanted to make sure my rig could handle games first
Other 10% either didnt enjoy the game or rig couldnt handle
No shit
If my stupid party setup softlocked me, then the game wasnt worth it for not having alternative ways to progress
I had a similar experience with Witcher 3
Or it did, but wasnt immediately available on how to go about doing it
Another game that was overtuned at release
I got stuck and couldn't progress on one of the very early quests
Really? I blew through witcher 3 release, but i do remember people saying it was HARD AS FUCK
There was no fucking way I was just gonna grind until I had the right potions, etc
I grew up on final fantasy, grind is in my blood
But it was sufficiently far into the game that I couldn't be armed starting over and building a new character which might get past the issue
One of my friends hates me for it, she'll recommend an rpg and the first thing i ask is if i can grind
Oh. Now what's the name of that jrpg with the hundreds of levels of dungeons
Tales of maj'eyal has an online builder, but you gotta download it
Feck
Im at work, don't wanna dl shit on work pc
Etrian Odyssey?
Thats a familiar name, though i cant remember what it is

I was thinking disgaea but instead it has hundreds of char levels lol
Disgaea has "dungeon" levels like items and stuff
What about La Pucelle: Tactics?
The final Dungeon of Dark Cloud has 100 levels o.o
it reminds of other titles like makai kingdom and phantom brave ๐ค
glad that some of the titles made it to PC (via steam iirc)
Has anyone given Star Rail a try?
Hi! Cant enter the game after the last update, staying at loading screen without progress. Anybody see this?
trying to find proper channel is first step
Wife and I are enjoying it for the time being.
HSR has better writing than what I saw of the D4 demo
not a compliment at HSR btw
HSR?
Honkai Star Rail.
writing? playing arpg for writing?
Some people do like arpgs (and other games) for the story.
At least D4 seems to have a decent story...but that's the only thing it has going for it ๐
I mean the beta isn't telling us everything. It could turn out the story being shit but gameplay and endgame is super good.
Ultimately the story doesn't matter as long as the gameplay is solid.
Agreed but I know a few friends who play arpgs once or twice at most
I purposely ignored all the story during beta so I could enjoy it at release so I can't speak as to the quality of anything
They play for the story
but the cinematic trailer for it was epic AF so I have high expecatations
And this is why i probably won't play haha
they can, but they can't expect it to be the main focus of the game, that's false expectation
it's like going to lung doctor expecting your stomachache to get better, yeah they are both doctors and both learn about stomach in medical school, but it's weird expectation
it's like asking for the story of arcade fighting games or shooting games or moba games to be good, some are, but unnecessarily so
wonder if there's more than 0.01% cs go or lol players playing the games for the story
story in d4 so far from what i saw in beta had some hiccups but also some great points, roughly averaged at solid 7, though i enjoyed it a lot more
A 7 is high for an ARPG, haha
it was very enjoyable and fresh, they didnt hold back on stuff. I liked sidequests. There were some stuff that felt bit forced, i guess? idk but just made me wondering if stuff will be ok later, though there is hell and heaven in comparision to d3 writing
intro cutscenes were top tier, they really outdid themselves. I guess i'm putting number down only because i have bad aftertaste after d3 that makes me worry indeed a little bit.
I like the chain quests where the female priest couldn't save the man then got sick herself
I just realised out of all the servers I'm in currently only Terraria has stickers.
I wonder how D4 will end up doing. Everyone seems to think itโll be like the best Diablo ever
I feel like PoE2 has gotten lost in the weeds. Not a good sign for that one.
Poe2 has been rather secretive recently, but im quite positive there will be a mention at exilecon for it
I think itll be the best diablo, not the best arpg(for other people, it may be my favorite)
But poe2, if they actually fix melee, including ssf melee, it wil easily compete agaimat d4 for me
Ruthless will, anyway
Normal game, if they change mob/player interaction balance
Its currently so expensive to make melee work well, even by my standards
it's already better than d3 with beta extrapolated
the only reason d2 is better is nostalgia, which d4 can't beat, while d4 wins in every other aspect
so while d4 is an above average arpg, it's definitely the best diablo game, if nostalgic aspect is eliminated from the equation
d2r, even as of 2023, is just an average, or imo even below average arpg, it's easy for me to leave nostalgia out of my judgement
They've said that people who go to exilecon will have a chance to play the demo, and then the beta for it should happen within the next two leagues.
I'll let you know, I snagged a couple tickets to exilecon and my partner and I are going to take a long NZ trip around it.
if you get a chance and the time after your own interests, and it's available, can you try out the werewolf form?

And also the fact that the devs have no interest (or it's highly unlikely) that linux will ever get support (which I now primarily use for gaming). Thanks EAC. ๐
Using linux is your own fault lulw
You're intentionally gimping yourself, just gotta roll with the punches
I will never understand linux for gaming, if i wanted to extremely limit how many games i can play, i'd just get a console
Honestly since the Steam Deck has released, Valve has been working wonders with Proton (a compatibility layer that allows one to run Windows native titles on Linux). I've had very few windows games I actually had serious issues running with proton (though sometimes tweaks are necessary to hit the framerate I'm looking for). My thing against Windows is I really dislike Windows dictating when I need to update and all the telemetry stuff they have in the system. In general though, using Linux for gaming is defenitly inconvenient at times (things sometimes don't 'just work' the way I'd like them to), but it's also been nice learning about another operating system and having the extra flexibility to modify my system and user experience as I see fit.
Its more flexible, takes less overhead, runs better
not great support though
There are a number of compatability programs that are still making progress
Dual boot exists.
Yep. I have a Windows install for stuff that has absolutely horrible performance (sub 30 FPS)/new titles/EAC games/some windows server emulation stuff, and that's basically it. Also handy incase I do a whoopsie and break X during an update or something.
I guess I just like suffering. :^)
Anyone else playing Age of Wonders 4? It's awesome. ๐ฎ
I watched a buddy play it for an hour or so, it looks REAL deep
Oh? Not familiar with this series.
It seems like Civ + HOMM to me, I haven't played any of the previous games though
Yup that's what it's like. I too haven't played any of the previous games either, just getting my feet wet with this one. If you think the idea of a fantasy civ sounds good then you'd probably like it. You can ignore combat if you want, there's auto combat, or you can play it all out manually or a mix of both.
I just won my first game on turn 77 after about 22 hours of play so much quicker games than civ (at least that one)
Yeah, auto combat is very HOMM, I always like playing it out though. I might have to pick it up
Never thought it would happen.
Yeah, I do autocombat unless it kills a unit then just do it manually. Towards the end tho it got tedious and I just let people die but early game is fun
You can do 18v18 which seems a bit much to me. I wish it capped out at 6v6. Heck I'd be ok with like 6v12 lol but oh well
Nice! Congratulations on beating Path of Exile. How many hours total did it take? :^)
1400, but very inefficient and many afk, working out, cooking food etc.
Same here I'm around 1400 hours but also inefficient hours as well as afk. I guess I'm due for mine? I heavily invested in harbinger stuff a couple leagues hoping to get one. Not so much as a shard. ๐ฆ
And now with exalts worth much less, harbinger isn't really worth it anymore D:
Only 1400? ๐ That's actually ridiculously lucky. I've read numbers in the past closer to 6,000.
I know there are many who have over that time and still haven't dropped one.
And then you play LE and get its mirror equivalent 10 times over 100 hours. Sadge.
that's the point peopel consider beating POE?
I dropped one at ~900 hours
i dont feel like I beat the game
was from a level 77 lake
I used it in a way most people would think is a terrible trade
speaking of which, Grats dude, any idea what you're gonna do with it?
I've played over 400 hours and got 2. ๐ฆ
I was just reading up on the new zelda game only to find out that it "released" 10 days early on pc emulation lmao
PC master race, xbox puts their games on pc now, and PC can emulate switch games
And as PC parts just get better and better, PS games will become easier and easier to emulate
yes someone leaked it and played on deck already
though i think most had issues and only could get 20 fps, or 30 max
Oof.
Tears of the Kingdom indeed.
i have a few buddies with the same rig as myself that could play it in 2k with over 60 fps, i think the people that had problems were all playing in 4k
i've never liked 4k
UI for a majority of games too small in 4k, and even if there is UI scalers, they have tons of issues most of the times
i'm more than comfortable sitting here at 2k
fr me too
if i can get my ass off Everspace 2, i may go load up ryujinx and give tears a shot myself
Everspace 2 has been amazing so far, like i hate flight sim controls in any game, ARMA i ran heli support and that was a bitch to learn, but ES2 controls are SO GOD DAMN SMOOTH I LOVE THEM
the games FANTASTIC
i honestly wasnt expecting to have as much fun with this game as i was expecting to, and im 100% glad i picked it up
best flight controls in any flying game by far
hm, will add to wishlist maybe will pick up on some good discount
oh for sure
as d4 is getting too close and generally i dont buy games unless i waited for them for years like d4 or death stranding
i probably wont touch D4, its hit or miss for me. The fact that once you've beat the campaign once, you can skip it is a huge boon for me, but
ehhh
I'm about to fire it up. My sticks have been missing me for too long
I'm eyeballing ES2 myself, so I'm likely to come to you for help, Amadora
50 Eur is a bit much for me right now; cdkeys.com has it for 35, but I'm wondering when's the next Steam sale
Everspace2 time!
Is it normal for me to feel rubbed the wrong way by the talks of emulating the leaked TotK?
It's really strange I feel that way despite being mostly laissez-faire with piracy.
I think it feels weird because it's not out yet. Like, I emulated botw on cemu but two years after it released
I think my case goes further than that, see, I've always had the feeling Switch emulation was less about preservation and undestanding the hardware, and more about being a piracy facilitator, going along with what I could only describe as entitlement from certain sects of PC gaming.
Feel free to rake me over the coals for that...
if you arent picking up D4, steam summer sale most likely
not at all, but nintendo's also a scumbag company
Nah I feel ya, not gonna put you down for a valid opinion
oh 100%
i played animal crossing on pc the day it came out lmao
They are pretty shitty with dmca's and such but yeah. Either side shouldn't necessarily be ok
no you're completely fine
i just dgaf and do it anyways haha
Probably not, GD and LE are enough ARPG for a while for me, plus I've the impression that D4 downplays the search for loot at the same time it tries to make the combat more involved.
oh wow i googled ryujinx tears of the kingdom download, and like one of the first links was a step by step process on how to do all of it AHAHAHAHAH
people really don't like nintendo
wow this is a highly detailed step by step process
Nintendo is very polarizing tbh, you're either loyal to their franchises and games, or you despise them to the core for being excessively litigious.
The latter even going so far as accusing the former of enabling Nintendo and certain developers (especially Game Freak).
wowee, people already have cheatengine tables for the game
What are the odds they're doing this out of spite for Nintendo being scummy, this is almost hilarious
In general I'm very saddened by all the shitflinging and negativity in gaming communities.
i don't think i'll be doing it though, i'm still pretty glued to Everspace 2
prob let emulation fixes happen for a while first
The combat is what has me liking it
Loot is all secondary to me
I want to enjoy the actual processes im going through to get it
I played the everspace 2 demo and loked it far more than the first
And i really enjoyed the first
The roguelite was a detraction for me
But its a great game still
Never got my hands on the full game for the 2md one
Something that I backed this week. Wanted to share

Ooooooh
Poggers
Anyone else playing Diablo 4 right now?
Man, D4 is justโฆnot very fun. Itโs like they didnโt consider dodge timings or ability cooldowns at all in the design of encounters. Itโs especially egregious on the bosses. It actually feels like they have gotten worse since the last beta. ๐
Dodge works fine for me, there isnt any invincibility though
Its just to get out before the damage starts
Sorc cooldowns were imcreased, imbue cooldowns were increased
Rather, sorc cdr was nerfed
Having alot of fun on the melee classes, gonna try a necro a bit if itll let me make one
What are you talking about? The movement/combat feels extra smooth
I just finished playing d4 after a few hours, and not sure how I feel about the game, but the movement/combat is top notch. Difference between 7 abilities and 5 is huge
combat's probably the most important part to me, and as melee it's been dope
though i did do necro in that first story dungeon, and that was nice too
still prefer melee but it was rather nice anyway
I really like that it's not just ass-blasting through, at least so far
its almost like bosses dont need to one-shot with every mechanic to be challenging
who'da thunk
woah woah woah
you mean you don't need go give players the ability to regen their health in .1 seconds?
most of the bosses i've fought are a delight
there's been one i actively didnt like, but im pretty sure it was bc i had actually 0 sustain on that char
I died to the boss twice, but it was also +3 levels on me
It's definitely much harder in mostly blues than in yellows + uniques
Ya D4 feels drastically improved from the prior beta
Starting to feel like it's gonna end up being pretty epic
yup, feeling very good. Though druids and necros seem to suffer a lot due to level limit and nerfs.
I only briefly played necro, but i had fun as summon
played the druid last time, werewolf though, which is not significantly changed
I have a weird problem with a certain game... I think I like GD better than LE in its current state, but I can't get over a hurdle LE has a significant leg up on GD: the beginning of the game is quite boring in the latter game, at least in LE you get a bunch of skills quickly to try out. How do I get around this issue?
Play modded GD ๐
last I tried I already was, bouncing between GDS4 and Grimarillion...
Missing out not playing reign of terror
Maybe, but if I wanted D2 I'd play PD2 or MXL lol
Imo both of those are significantly worse than RoT but fair enough
that's an interesting POV; tbh I don't have much in the way of time spent in RoT lol
I feel like pd2 is just vanilla plus and medianxl is so on rails now that you get to 125 in 3 days playing the build that is the only build possible based on the skill you chose and then you quit. I miss ultimative days
RoT to me is the best of GD and d2 worlds. The gearing and nuance to build variety is so much better than vanilla GD
And all of Diablo one is in act 6 of RoT. That in and of itself is pretty amazing ๐
not bad for a mod that's still on v0.7.2.0
Yup. One of the games I keep coming back to over and over
also hold on... how is RoT itemization better than in vanilla GD?
Because all D2 And D1 items are present and accounted for, modified to GD engine and mechanics, with build enabling modifiers, oskill enhancing builds, and mythical versions of super rare build enabling items
Including all runewords and set items
seems it's because there was attention given to balancing?
There is still a lot of work to do on balancing, namely on the GD items database as it is HUGE. But all the d2 and D1 items are really well balanced and feel really good to use for the most part
ah nice
A lot of the GD items just haven't been brought up to RoT levels yet, simply due to time constraints. But it's on the docket. All GD classes and class skills have been brought up to RoT levels though
Including upping max skill ceilings and scaling past max hard points
which popular mods have been adapted for RoT, like Internals or Rainbow Filter?
Griminternal works flawlessly with RoT. Idk about rainbow filter
Iirc there are people using it though
Even grimtools has an RoT build planner and full database
Although it's not perfect
there's just one mystifying thing about RoT - it needs 3 downloads instead of just needing you to download 0.7.2.0 directly
Fuck I am out of practice with dual sticks no flight assist
jello, anyone here planning to play blue protocol?
Yeah, I'll give it a shot. If it feels garbage to play without paying, I'll drop it pretty quick
dis is so relatable. on point I'd say
anime mmos, afaic, have never reached the likes of non-anime mmos' success in every metric e.g. WoW, Eve Online, Runescape, FF XIV, and the more recent, LoA
p.s. some people might consider FF XIV as one anime mmo I'd say which is np. metrics of success may vary from people to people

You know what I realized?
Overwatch 2 is just Overwatch with SHOP and Battlepass and 5v5
Making the Game a 5v5 from a 6v6, means existing ow esports teams have to CUT a player.
like seriously what the point of 2 instead of just updating 1 and retain the 6v6. They cant balance the game so they have resort to cutting a player?
TF2 out lived it again by doing nothing.
Good ol' TF2.
I've lost most my hype for d4 at this point.
Makes sense
Nah I'm excited to try it out

the real blackpill is realizing the whole point of the bait and switch pve mode would be to force everyone to accept moving to paying for characters.
I bought the original OW1, then they shut it down and now i have to pay for new heroes
when back then it wasnt monetized like a ftp game
Remind me of csgo and pubg, both were paid games that became f2p
Guess blizzard just copied the formula and added more monetization to it
All I know is that all the coins I had (probably around 1k) were just yeeted away when OW2 released. I mean I think they may have warned players before that this would happen but I don't find that to be an excuse,
they exist still but cant be used for everything

Horizon Zero Dawn is 67% sales, $16 in my region, worth buying?
Fantastic game, and i believe the pc port is solid as well. Should have good mods for it out by now as well
Yep definitely worth buying!
damn, you guys are tempting me too much
Hzd is one of my favorite games of all time. Gotta play it in very hard imo, it forces you to use actual tactics and battlefield manipulation and planning and skill with your bow. So much fun
Or play it on easy mode so you can enjoy the story more.
The story doesn't change in very hard...
I know but easy mode makes it easier to go through the story. Some people like story more than the challenge ;)
I think the time i played hzd was when i wasnt interested in hard modes yet, i'll play games nowadays on hard, not for the challenge, but just to see if its still easy and then lower difficulty when needed
But back then i think i played it on easy, for the sole reason of "i enjoy curb stomping the teeth in of everything in sight that cant fight back"
I literally played D:OS2 on the easiest mode so I could go through the story and the battles were still hard looool
Well they were hard until I got my summoner to 10+
Sure sure. I just get so bored curb stomping even the most elite or dangerous of the giant machines. It just feels out of step with everything else in the actual story.
Like the story builds up this massive creature and you have to go on an epic journey to find it, and you kill it in two shots lol
2 different people, i was also the psychopath that crippled peoples legs in fallout 3 and slowly walked after them with the ripper revved up while they crawled away from me
And then you return and every npc is amazed that you survived. It's just very jarring lol
It didn't bother me lol. I prefer to have a stress free experience.
yes, definitely for $17. Fun game with limited upgrades, but good story. Probably one of the few games I fully paid attention to the main story.
Yup. And the dlc is also quite good
I kinda liked the dlc bad guy more than the main bad guy
Ditto. And those fucking bears. I hate love them so much
Cant remember if i played the dlc or not, but you mention bears and hating them. Are they on par with elden rings big ass bears?
On par. Almost worse if you play on very hard.
Ive met so many people that consider elden ring bears harder than the games full on bosses
Which makes sense
The one bear in the cave in caelid specifically. That mother fucker is harder than most bosses and has like 8x the hp
Man, fuck that bear. He and the caelid bell bearing hunter were worse than radahn by a long shot.
Rune bear? More like ruin bear.
Oh. My. Gosh. That stupid bear in the cave behind the waterfall.
Ruin bear indeed.
lmao [b]lizzard
people : "no say they are lying about d4, they will for shure not fuck up d4!"
[b]lizzard: so anyways, let's release a q&a with completly faked questions from fake twitter accounts, those r***** users will not realize it lmao
Had fun, all i care about tbh
yea i don't think a fake Q&A is going to keep people who want to play d4, away from playing D4
most people i know don't even watch Q&A's
Yep I'm disappointed in the paragon board (looking at the calc) but that won't stop me from playing D4 (and at early access too!)
I'm specifically avoiding looking at it so I can experience it first before dealing with build theorycrafting
Yea, the paragon board looks kind of underwhelming. Lots of tiny basic stat increases
its the interaction of those with glyphs that's interesting to me
the radial effects adding to them
unfortunately, no idea if it feels that interesting to interact with, we wont til it's out
you know it was not blizz but third party, some guy from twitter who came up with all of this because zero people took interest and nobody put any questions. Blizzard did nothing wrong here, maybe except they could take better look at who they are working with
blizz always reviews the questions they get before accepting them. You think all the questions beeing asskissing had nothing to do with blizz aproving the interview? very "fortunate" aint it
what asskissing, its promotional thing to make product look better. Do expect them to shoot themselves in feet just before launch? Of course they will check if answers are ok but they may had zero knowledge that these questions were faked and not from real people. Maybe they trusted guy so they didnt do too big background check
some other stuff like these race to 100 is indeed bit wrong, but these questions are just small mistake that are not much really.
yea if anyone actually gets mad at blizzard over fake Q&A, they're actually delusional. Theres plenty more actual blizzard problems that are worthy of being angry over

Diablo 4 yes or no?
just ask yourself if the money is worth it, no need to ask anyone else, 9 people will have 10 different opinions
I'm not sure if it's worth it to play alone id like to play it but with people, lol.
have any friends to play along?
Nah. Normally I play RL and most people are addicted to that game.
Anyone got a mobile rpg of some sorts to recommend to make time go faster at work? Something that would make me miss my PC less
Diablo 4 is blizzard game so chances of getting ripped off is high. Can still be decent game but apply for visa or mastercard with 10k limit if you plan to play
Zenonia series
Torchlight Infinite is decent arpg
will tell you 1 month later if I'm being ripped off
Dont worry my youtube feed will have asmongold telling me about it ๐คฃ
oh you sub him?
You dont need to sub him. Just watch one video and half of the feed is asmon thumbnails. Its a disease
who's this asmongold anyway
He's living proof that goblins exist in the real world, and not just in fantasy.
lol
have no such issue, I always surf web in incognito mode
so no need to delete my search history if 1 day I die hehe
Any rpg? Battle Chasers: Nightwar
And like @simple needle said, Zenonia's an olden times classic on mobile
how he is alive is beyond me, Listening to some stuff he said in that new podcast about his lifestyle..or other times, man, its surreal. If he didnt win with streaming, i think his life would be rather bleak rn. But i think overall he is very sober with his opinions, sometimes of course he misses but most time he has good touch on stuff. Proof is that he is still growing with numbers and keeping it up.
I think he has a lot of L takes at times, but I feel many of his opinions on games are similar enough to my own that I can trust his rating of most games. He's been pretty spot on with many games I've been into in the past.

um...is there a way to know which choice is my middle monitor? Without having to guess and restart each time until I guess correctly?
nice
you gonna play kingdom rush on the other two monitors at the same time?
triple difficulty
hehe
Why is Steam not giving me the prompt (top screenshot) to overwrite cloud data with local data? If I choose "Retry Sync" then the cloud will automatically overwrite my local save (which is what I don't want). How do I have Steam give me the prompt in the bottom screenshot?
okay never mind. I literally have no clue how whatever I did made it work....but I got the screen I was finally looking for ๐
actually yes there is a way
on display setttings it gonna show you your monitors as numbered
but also you can just click identify and your monitors gonna show your their numbers
Oh shit youโre right! I legit totally overlooked that 1/2/3 and was trying to figure out which monitor was which with the two โ(Right)โ labels ๐๐
do you guys have roguelike / roguelite suggestions?
Slay the Spire and Monster Train if you like card-based roguelikes.
This.
There is Hades but I am not a fan of fast paced roguelike/lite games
Hades is a 10/10 game if you do like the faster paced games. Binding of Isaac and Enter The Gungeon are also classics in the space.
After Hades and RoR2 I have basically given up on those kinda games.
I mean yeah, if you don't like Hades you probably aren't going to like action roguelikes very much. It's kind of the king. There's also Rogue Legacy (and Rogue Legacy 2 now) that are pretty good sidescrolling platformer roguelikes.
