If you're talking about the timeline boss drops, no, prophecies can only drop items that can drop anywhere. If you're looking at the "timeline to target farm", those items can drop anywhere, that timeline just generates some "unique or set X" echoes that let you get slightly better odds by narrowing down the drop pool for those echo rewards.

Neither is necessarily "simpler".... CoF improves your loot, which is good for solo self-found. But MG has access to everyone else's drops, which gives you a lot more build options if you can afford it

So more a question of playstyle

I like CoF cuz it let me focus on playing the game instead of trading and hunting for deals

MG allows you to buy 80% of the game's items for dirt cheap. The rest of the 20% vary between affordable and "have fun grinding for a very long time" unless you know how to price items, or are willing to look into it manually in the guild a lot, which in my opinion, is incredibly tedious. There's no "easy price checker tool" as far as I'm aware and the Auction House is split between multiple NPCs and the menus are a bit clunky still.

So if you want to play a build you saw online and need certain uniques for it, MG is great for that.
If you just play "I'll see what I find and go from there", or are fine with target farming unique items for your build, CoF is great, too

Yeah I totally get it. I've tried MG and I have probably 5-10k hours in PoE and my lord, not having a way to easily price items (at least uniques) is pretty annoying.
They also just don't sell unless they're popular. I underpriced some 1-2LP uniques by like 10-20% and they do not sell at all 👀

for me runes of havoc and other ones are dropping more than exalted I can use them on

you'd want an item with T6-T7 and preferably empty space for shard you want
if there's no space for mod, you can try rune of removal to get space
you craft mod you want, just T1
and then hope that rune of Havoc transfer T7 onto skill level

What I try to do is get some core blessings and gear going to add a defensive layer of resistances and crit avoid or reduction and start pushing corruption. For an item like wrongwarp I would use prophecies and run the stolen lance mono (wands as rewards). Once you find your first wrongwarp immediately imprint it on the weaver tree (there are two places for weapons). If you have a wrongwarp with 0 LP and throw it in nemesis egg. Items with LP you run Julra and try to make legendary by using exalted items with higher tier affixes for your build. Rinse and repeat using nemesis egg and weaver altar to reroll stats and gamble for LP. You can also use rune of ascendency

Heya, you can use rune of ascendancy on a pair of boots and try to get it that way 1.38% chance (recommend using CoF boots for the sweet 45% chance not to use the rune) or alternatively run echoes in Spirits of Fire with the Unique or Set Boots reward type again 1.38% chance. You can use the woven echoes to get memory beacons to run the boot echoes again, you ll figure that out by yourself.

I just realized the efficient way to do this is imprint unclaimed trove themselves. Run a few echoes and if it doesn't appear, reset web with shade (no corruption increase node)
