That's ridiculous. Rank 1-4 gets you practically 90% of the power you will ever need throughout the entirety of the game. Rank 5-8 will get you the rest and essentially complete the game.

I think my biggest complaint about MG right now is that now that I have the resources and reputation level, crazy trade gear doesn't even exist on the market, at least not for the things I'm looking for. I'm at the stage where the only upgrades for my build are x2 T7 mods & 4LP uniques but none of them exist, except for the super common LP uniques. It feels kind of bad checking into the shops every 30 minutes or so to see if any new T7 gear has been posted and it's always empty.

I just wasted over 20k favor and bought separate items, yet gained 0 reputation progress. :/

There’s a tooltip under the level requirement of the item that will tell you if it’s untradeable. Otherwise you’re too low of a rank to trade the items you’re trying to list.

Buy Orders could be cool. Someone could set parameters for an item they want, and if it gets listed, the seller can choose to see if there are any buy orders they want to utilise

It’s just a slow levelling process, sadly. Buying and selling as often as you can is really all you can do. Listing things for 0 gold doesn’t really do anything afaik

You’re better off spending your favour on the gambler if your only wish is to spend favour now instead of using it usefully on selling/buying good idols and what not.

Maybe because the filter system is inconvenient to use and requires its own manual. Setting up filters is a chore that requires research, and you constantly need to edit your filters. It's a game within a game, but not a very fun one.
I haven't thought about how to improve the system, this is just a comment about how bad the current system is, even if it's possibly the best we can get.

if market works only for players spend all the time in game - its a bad design, just compare with the POE market. It works for every level, of course system there is terrible that in end of the league ppl will be ignoring you etc. but in general at any level you able to buy whatever you need if you have enough resources. Here - another situation. You blocked by rep first, after by gold, after by gold + rep. Also online players divided by 2 parts by COF and Merchant. It means that less sellers == less supply, less customers == less chances to sell something, to buy something later etc

System here is more complicated and more fragile because of that. Whales can afford to sale items for rep instead of gold, they are able to underbidding all players behind with ease, because they farming better (better chances to got items with corruption etc)
Newbies just can't afford anything and that's hurts not only newbies, but also this "Experienced sellers" because if nobody will buy what you listed, what the point of listing. And this newbies by the way - most probably biggest part of the players in every diabloid.
Common players will be all the time underbidded by this experienced players - so they will neve have enough gold to buy something good from the "whales"
In the end it will lead to situation (if its not already) that only experienced players will trade between each other in rare case (because they able to farm something by themselves just during everyday activities). Because its obvious that players that playing on corrupt 200+ have more chances to get good base items

Favor gained by killing mobs and completing quests, because that grants XP, grants rep.

btw i dont think thats the reason. I think the market stabalizes because people are much higher faction level now and things do sell. Legendary potential uniques still go for nothing because only 1% can buy them . In my opinion these restrictions are the reason why the market was so cheap. People filled the market with good items but no one could buy them, so ofc the next one who has the same good item lists it below and since people cant buy the item( or only 1%) there is this bad market situation where people, who rush the game, can get everything very cheap in MG since they are the first ones who can buy these cheap listed items. IMO EHG restricted the market in a bad way. A use case for Gold outside of the Market would also be a good addition

Filtering by t6+ is leaving big money on the table, but less time spent. Ideally your filter is looking for gear piece+affixes not tiers, tiers will come as you prog and affixes are more important for making bank

Yes the affixes are good but their combinations never make sense for a build, which is a problem. In the end you always end up tweaking your own rules with proper bases and set of items separately to not mix things up

Way more likely to reach that point in a 4 month cycle on MG.

The issue is that the MG faction is under utilized cause of the multiple restriction you need to clear before you can properly use. It is especially hard for casual players to get pass those restriction as they have limited playtime. We all know it is a slog to get through these level. There is very little demand for those exalted cause a lot us are still slogging through the levels. I see a lot good exalted that selling way cheaper than rare. That how bad the system is... there is not enough people to stablize the market

I think they both have their place in a cycle. Merchant is best for a cycle start to mid cycle. Cause you can get that early power boost. CoF is more long term, and in the end will likely have more powerful builds sooner but times time to ramp up. Merchant will catch up but would take longer to push that last bit of min/max.

In my opinion, restricting a trade system like LE does, or POE does by decreasing the quality of life with "walking" in LE or "no AH" in POE is incorrect. You shouldn't decrease the QoL to slow things down. You should think of other things to slow it down but QoL should be the best as possible.

The rep farming is fine, but lacking QoL is not good. Making you walk, and restricting search etc is not the way to go.

Same for PoE, they don't want to give us a full blown AH because they say it will ruin the game. they are of course right.
Its such a manumental part they need to design a game from scratch with the thought of "its going to have an auction house, how do we design the game to accommodate that" mindset.
A game with simple itemization won't survive AH.
Getting an unrestricted AH to an existing RPG is a problem.

right now you also need to make separate rules for every piece of gear, so using one filter for multiple characters (cause gearing alts while playing something else is not uncommon) gets very messy

Already said this many times but if you are super casual you dont need exalted items, you can clear empowereed monos easily with T20 rares, and considering the only form of endgame right now is chasing loot it's totally fair to gate the ability to buy BiS exalted items behind a grind.

Idols with desirable double affixes and high rolls are pretty consistently in the few millions. Something like shadow blade phys penetration with elemental resistance in high rolls.

Others are non target farmable 3 LP uniques like smoke weaver are in the 10s of millions. Anything without LP is gonna be worthless, because… it is. Just the merit of randomness doesn’t make it desirable. It’s also that it’s probability wise hard to obtain disrupting the supply and demand

No I think there’s good strategies to get a sense of what’s valuable with everything built in. Like say you’re looking for an idol. And consider the best possible must have primary affix for what your class demands. For me, as a shadow blade blade dancer, its shadow phys penetration. Then from there, just sort from price high to low. You will see what people are posting that are worth the most very easily

i'd like that. Currently i buy trash gear for the sole purpose of dismantling them, this would simply make the process easier.

Devs also see shards as items and not a currency, so it would make sense in that regard too

For which class? Every class is different. There’s different affixes that are desirable for each class and build. If you’re playing a certain build already, you would kind of have a sense of what affix it is that is valuable. And the t6 affix that boosts that stat would probably be what’s most valuable. But I mean in general, it’s already a 1 in 4 so it wouldn’t be super rare to begin with.

You have to use favor to either buy or sell stuff. You don't really waste it. You gain reputation for earning favor(killing monsters) and for spending it(buying or selling items, gambling). People want reputation so they can buy exalted items. Like other people already said, listing items for 0 gold is not smart. You either gamble with the favor if you don't want to spend any gold to get rep or you buy cheap items for affixes.

The only way is to buy uniques with LP or legendaries, but you don’t have the means to buy said uniques. So it’s a catch 22. Gotta kind of gamble it, unless you just want to keep it and gain your favor through farming monsters. I’m an advocate of just saving it and farming monsters tho

Doesn't matter. It all gives the same. Just earn favor and spend it. Also depends on what rank you are already. I spend my favor buying exalted weapons to make a nice legendary later. Before I could buy exalted weapons I bought cheap rares for affixes I needed for my build. If you don't need anything right now feel free to just gamble it away.

Just farm monsters. I found that for me personally, I spent a lot of time just pondering and forcing myself to spend favor, when farming monsters literally I can get reputation at the same if not faster rate

If you kill monsters, you don’t ONLY gain favor btw, you also gain extra reputation. So you can save your favor for when you unlock a feature you actually need like uniques with legendary potential at level 6, and still rank up your Merchants guild level

Ohh you’re marksman so same base class as me. I think anything with physical penetration and crit multiplier is very strong for anything rogue related. It’s the highest scaling attribute offensively hands down, so if your exalts are t6ing one of those attributes, and has a few other good secondary attributes, like say mana regen cooldown reduction throwing damage, etc, I’d imagine it’s worth a fair bit more

I think rogue crit multiplier is always king right, and then depending on if you’re using physical, physical penetration is just as good
