If I untick this first box, what file type do the clipboard images paste as?

Also, what formatting gets stripped if I tick the second box setting?

Do PNGs typically take more or less data?
I also noticed that once an image is in the browser, I can't copy and paste it elsewhere outside of Anki. I'm guessing that allowing clipboard images to paste as PNG allows them to be copy-pasted elsewhere?

The same formatting that gets stripped in a Shift-Paste when the box is unticked. It just reverses what the default is for Paste. It should be all formatting -- the equivalent of pasting plain text. https://docs.ankiweb.net/editing.html#editing-features

I'm sure the internet could answer that for you -- it's not a question that is unique to Anki.

I would suspect the reason is what you are seeing in the Browse window is a visual representation of <img src="paste-341...3d.jpg">. That's really what the field contains and what you would be copying out of it. I don't think that's any different with PNG files.
