I don't entirely think self research is inherently wrong or have more negatives in relation to positives per say, but for some people they wynd up believing "sources" they shouldn't and following the health recommendations of people who to put it simply lack proper education, experience and general knowledge of the medical field, of course this isn't to say there isn't legitimate accurate helpful health advice and knowledge available to be researched on one's own time, the problem simply stems when people don't do there proper research, and become and/or act naive believing non-legitimate sources, I can't fully shoot down how my mother is because I understand she simply has her and our health in mind but she fails to understand said points and instead shoves her views and thinking (Based off some untrustworthy sources let's not lie) down our throats, not to even go into how she doesn't stick with many of her monthly obsessions, her brother (my uncle) is similar to her with the health obsession and all and she complains about said health obsessions... yet she does it herself.. I can't completely blame her for disliking doctors and there advice as in the us they will rarely spend time with you and offer worthwhile advice. At the end of the day whilst good intentions are exhibited some people simply become misguided into believing things they should not, as is applicable in many things aside from health.
