In a medieval game
Swordsman covers many different time zones already, only the Knights levels could really be described as medieval.
Laser swords are already in consideration, so perhaps a shotgun wouldn't be completely off the table.

I don't see why a futuristic level with legally distinct laser sword weapons wouldn't work. As I say, the settings aren't fixed in time thus far. Not to mention, we've already visited the realms of an anthropomorphic manifestation of Christmas and some form of purgatorial afterlife.
Seems like pretty much anything goes! 😂
