#Pillar Rework

So pillar has more mass than ball but same damage value, which doesn't really make sense but i willing to live with it, IF the devs choose to rework one thing.

So the change im requesting is that, when a pillar is grounded, it will have the same straight distance as the currant grounded ball's straight distance. This would also work in reverse, giving the grounded ball the ground pillar straight distance.

That probably sounded confusing so, all i meant was to switch the distances from a straight for ground pillar, and grounded ball.

my reasoning with this change, is that pillar is the grounded version of ball and so it should excel when grounded. Also pillar is smooth so it would probably slide better than like an uneven lump.

uhm no

#

i cannot provide a solid reason as to why not

#

i just dont like it

#

lmao

brazen carbon

Pillar is way too nerfed right now RUMBLEhands
It deserves to be lighter. It used to be as damaging as a cube when the game started, but it was too op, so then it was nerfed to ball's damage value. But the mass was never changed accordingly, it's the worst of both worlds :(
-# I still like it for how sleeky it is, but it definitely should be lighter/faster

dry rune
#

yeah i agree

#

it should be lighter

#

maybe more durable

#

but it should definitely not move as fast as grounded ball lol

brazen carbon
#

Maybe not, but it should be in the middle. I think it's even slower than a cube right now...

#

Spawn delay and mass should be lower, and friction with the ground too, considering it has a very small contact area

#

It has basically the same contact area as a disc

#

-# unless put sideways

dry rune
#

yeah for sure

#

it should prolly spawn almost as fast as cube but not quite

#

move somewhere between ball and cube

#

maybe closer to ball

clever locust
dry rune
#

because

#

thats really fast 😭

#

like that goes almost the entire width of the pit

clever locust
#

i mean like but the ball does it why shoulded the pillar do it?

#

shouldn't*

dry rune
#

because the pillar is bigger

#

thats just physics

clever locust
#

not by much tho

dry rune
#

its like 3x bigger

#

so therefore it'd move like 1/3 the distance

#

maybe closer to 1/2

clever locust
dry rune
#

what does pillar being bigger than ball have to do with cube

clever locust
#

im just sayin in comparison

dry rune
#

yeah

#

but its only a bit less thick than ball top down

#

while being like 3x taller

#

so

#

almost 3x as big

clever locust
#

well mean like its only gonna hit with extra height if you have bad positioning

#

like the rework would only affect grounded straights of b & p so like shouldn't rly buff uppercut or kick

#

also also when r u ever using grounded ball, this pillar rework might lead to some fun things

dry rune
#

i use grounded ball all the time lmao

#

and since pillar and ball have the same value

clever locust
#

welp

dry rune
#

i would literally never use grounded pillar over grounded ball because grounded ball is smaller

#

soo 😭

clever locust
dry rune
#

no?

#

all i was saying before is that pillar shouldn't be that fast because its too big

clever locust
#

kinda but not rly

#

oh wait

dry rune
#

just from a physics standpoint

#

not for balance

clever locust
#

well i mean ball ground it goes half way into the ground, and earth rubbing on earth which causes a lot friction. while pillar still flat on the earth, which probably less friction

#

like if bowling ball and metal sheet with same weight was being dragged across a beach which one would reqire less force?

quick gale
#

the pillar is by far the worst structure in vr earthbending

#

but it should be lighter/have more spawning force

fervent kiln
#

would be fun if pillar had the launch distance cube has now (considering cube launch is getting nerfed due to physics changes)

#

cube is very much the everything structure
it has good damage, highest launch, and a really fast spawn speed
if pillar had more launch it could find some use cases

brazen carbon
#

Since the devs have to change values for the new physics engine anyway, might be good time to consider rebalancing the pillar 👀
-# If any devs reading that

fading gust
#

what if pillar had a 'crit' mechanic if you hit with the skinny end?

#

that would be fun

#

maybe better for a new structure entirely but pillar doesnt have much going on rn anyways

tame glacier
#

pillar is actually the best structure in rumble as it is

#

HSU it and it flips exactly at the right distance to make it a fucking PAIN to RTS

bold helm
#

honestly if it just spawned faster it would be a pretty good way to sneak three damage when grounded since it still goes farther than a cube. could probably be lighter when ungrounded too, but it would be nice if it spawned fast enough to use more often in high pace

tame glacier
#

seriously we dont pillar snipe enough as a community

#

and it shows with the existence of this thread

#

pillar is by FAR the best structure

viscid cosmos
#

Or at least

#

Not in my experience

tame glacier
#

hmm its a pretty reliable snipe for me tho

#

goes faster than ball, plus i think because of how little pillar is used it ends up pretty reliably catching people off guard when its flying horizontally at highway speeds

#

plus i noticed a lot of chargies end up waterbending HSU'd pillars into themselves

#

i know it doesnt work on everyone but mixups are called that for a reason

#

no such thing as a bad move, just a bad time to use it

bold helm
# tame glacier no such thing as a bad move, just a bad time to use it

agree. would be nice if it were a bit easier to use though. in higher skill matches, i think the main reason people faze it out of their arsenal is because of how slow it is to spawn before they can use it. that, plus it having the stats of a ball, makes it almost unusable to most people for attack/defense when speed gets more involved.

quick gale
#

I already use pillar quite a bit, but I wish it would spawn faster for melee or mojodash purposes

tame glacier
#

ball comes out faster yeah

#

but if its clear theyre not throwing ball at that moment?

#

or u notice a stasis setup across the map and dont wanna poke with a disc

#

and again, no one expects a quarter of a square telephone pole to shoot out of a cloud of dust

#

so when theres dust just send whatever's funniest and goes fastest

quick gale
#

Flight was good before the mass adoption of AA

#

If your main power is built on surprise, that won't work for long

#

Especially if it's adopted by a ton of people

tame glacier
#

flight is good

fathom hollow
#

Pillar sniping is strong, and often difficult to react to, but there is counterplay to it, so it gets a lot worse once people get used to it

#

And overall, pillar is still probably the worst structure, even if it has some uses

#

Having it spawn faster would help a lot, but I like the snipe idea where the small end does extra damage as that would actually give it a unique use case with a higher skill ceiling

fervent kiln

fervent kiln
#

but if theyre setting up stasis....

viscid cosmos
fathom hollow
viscid cosmos
#

True

#

It takes so long now

fathom hollow
#

Plus, I can just use the pillar to defend the discs before sending it at you

tame glacier
#

meaning uh

#

just go over it lmao

#

either that or i could mess with stasis while we still have it

#

im seriously so sad that i feel like the only pillar defender of the bendearthers

#

pillar is one of the easier structures to hold fly on btw, if HSU isnt an option, or say someone unwisely ungrounds your pillar with dE or dSE you can just mount it

fathom hollow
tame glacier
#

like some of the most feared things in fighting games are command grabs but if you look at them objectively, its a tiny hitbox right in front of you with near zero follow up potential, with a chunk of damage that wont even compare to most characters bread and butter combos

#

but yknow, command grabs are actually broken because their use case is "haha he's pressuring me and used a move thats -6 on block get fucked kid"

#

just because we dont have frame data in this game (i can argue we do but thats a different discussion) doesnt mean that the same thing doesnt apply to rumble

#

"you fool, youre rushing me at 2 hp and im next to a pillar"

#

"you fool, you ungrounded my pillar, delivering a rod from god"

#

"YOU FOOL YOU FORGOT I HAD PILLAR BECAUSE I HAVENT SPAWNED IT IN 3 GAMES FACE MY GATLING BALLISTA"

viscid cosmos
#

Fair lol

#

Tho often disc is more a guaranteed hit

#

If a disc wont hit a pillar often won’t either

bold helm
#

I do agree there aren’t really any bad moves in most games. But if half the reason I use a pillar is because it unexpected, it’s still pretty telling about the structure’s overall strength. And it’s not even like I want it to have better stats. Just a faster spawn speed which would make it more usable (as in, being able to spawn it and interact with it faster) and as a side, its shape + a faster spawn speed might open the door for other interesting setups.

tame glacier
#

fastest of grounded structures* i mean

#

ball is a useful poke but relatively slow and short range

#

disc is fast but can be blocked by a well timed sneeze

#

pillar is long range, flies fast, and hits for ball damage at near the same speed as ball spam, as long as ur chill moving a little more

#

so up close, ball it, duh

clever locust
tame glacier
#

though it will still behave differently with the next update

#

i didnt mess with it much in the beta

clever locust
#

i just wish pillar was more fast acting, and this felt like the most vanilla way to do it

tame glacier
#

ngl if pillar at least spawned faster than cube it might end up one of the more used structures

dense bolt
#

But changing pillar's spawn speed would have unprecedented effects on the pillar stacking community!

viscid cosmos
#

It spawns at like wall speed
