I think That, small arms fire such as machine guns rifles etc should have no affect on a tank. No damage at all. Mortars should cause slight damage if any. Arty should be very effective in taking out a tank. As for tank on tank combat, it really should depend on luck and the make/ model of both tanks should be considered. For example if I the player is using a Sherman tank, against a tiger tank. The Sherman really should stand no chance alone but chances of survival increases with numbers. Due to difference in armor and gun caliber

Being impervious to rifle fire makes sense for tanks like the Sherman and Tiger, however those are WW2 tanks and the base game is primarily WW1, yes?

Many tanks used in WW1 were generally penetrable by any rifle caliber or above though.

The British Mk.IV only has at most a half-inch plate of steel. Which is perforable by .303 Mark VII (Standard for the British at the time) and .30-06 M1906 Ball (US Standard). Even tanks that had armor thickness enough for rifles generally weren't protected such on all sides.

However, in terms of how Tank and AI work, I had suggested that when a mobile tank moves forward, it should have a "repelling" effect on enemy AI; Tank Shock or Tank Terror forces enemies to route!

As for how tanks fight, I mean generally I think the basics is to make sure they rotate to face their thickest armor towards the greatest threat. Otherwise, it should fall on the make of the tanks as you said, and tactics (Flanking).

Well there's a reason tankers had those chain splatter masks. Not only would you get occasional penetration, but you'd also get lots of spalling from basic rifle impacts as well.

Of course, the tank isn't tissue paper; even when penetrated, the round would lose a lot of energy and would experience some deflection in trajectory. At distance, the crew would be mostly safe.

But full rifle cartridges can perforate a half inch of steel, and it turns out that's about as much as some tanks have. And even if a round doesn't penetrate, metal flakes at high speed are bad for your health.

Some tanks were tougher, like the A7V, and those would be when you brought out the AT Rifles and Elephant Guns. But if you have any surface less than 13mm thick, there's a chance of penetration by rifle caliber, and beyond that the danger of spalling was present.

...Still better protection than the shirts of an average infantryman, but not nearly as protective as a good trench.
