This is known, but I still don't think it's worth demeriting, then. It shouldn't necessarily imply that they had it easier either.

Granada managed to finish well above teams like Real Betis and Valencia that spent about 15 times more than what they did in the market. That should already be impressive enough, at least in my view, and more so for a recently promoted team. That just doesn't happen every other day.

You can go and look at the league table from that respective season, and see how contested those European places were, and the difference in the quality teams around there had compared to Granada.

Their campaigns with Diego were purely down to his stellar coaching and man-management. The level of plain average players rose up a notch and was sustained, and sustained to a point that got them to a European quarter final. And hell, look at them this year, a shadow of their former selves, and relegated without him.
