iirc it happens if you’re trying to send a specific (wrapped) item as a present and the Tama sends the wrong one. You’re meant to give them a time out after and it raises their training bar

the contrast on the rerelease seems to be as dark as in my og Keitais, so the contrast thing should be there
also i don't think keitais have a heartbeat

the V3 and the entama do, but i have not heard it on a keitai series one

also these use 'g' for weight like the Keitai, unlike the V3 which uses 'lbs'
and gotchi points use the G symbol rather than the p one

I find the 2024 connections to be a bit darker, it could vary from unit to unit though

Some of my Keitais are lighter than others

I always found the Keitai to have pretty good screen contrast though

This Keitai is one of my average ones, not extremely dark or extremely light and they actually do look close

The remake is just a tad darker but the camera doesn’t pick that up

have you noticed any screen differences between any of your three rv3s? I have the graffiti two pack but haven't opened it, but I've seen some people say screens vary across units

I have the graffiti pack and they look about equal in terms of contrast & quality. Only difference I can tell is the icons aren’t quite lined up the same

camera lighting is making the blue one look darker but they’re the same in-person

but you can see like the light & book icons aren’t exactly in the same place

I think that’s just an individual device quirk tho and not exclusive to these shells

I haven’t had much issue with the contrast at all but I have pretty good lighting in my house. The only thing that bugs me is the polarization/rainbow effect they get sometimes

I think if you want the best possible picture of the tamas you have to be looking at them head-on and in light

Otherwise the screen gets too dark or you get glare or rainbow aura

Aside from the easily-scratched screen these feel pretty sturdy, I can see the shells lasting for a good while

i've heard this several times but i don't think they manufacture "test" cells like that

they might be lower quality and inconsistent

but i have never had problems with the "test" cells in my tamagotchis lasting significantly shorter than a name brand cell

Yeah it's just companies being cheap. They aren't going to go all out on a good battery for something thats basically a free bonus. Mine lasted a generation and a half

I think the only reason I’m finding some jarring is because I’ve been running my old blue bubbles v3 nearly every year since release 😅

they've been doing new p1/p2 shells consistently for 6 years now lol

in the case of the connections though the materials they used seem to be more fragile and not less though lol

except the paint, the paint is significantly more durable

AFAIK it depends on the internal luck stat, which itself is dependant on the Tamagotchi's parents and usually crappy if they were born from a matchmaker marriage

It's weird, none of the V1 or Keitai's babies and children are on this thing despite being an internationally-released device made to celebrate the Connection's 20th anniversary

And despite extending the olive branch to Ichigotchi and Ringotchi, Oniontchi didn't make it in and neither did Young Oyajitchi

Obviously there would've been too many teens, but it's not like they could've just replaced one of the V3-only guys

Hell, they didn't even adjust the animations to fit for the Osu/Mesu guys having adult-sized sprites, so they just end up going partially offscreen half the time

It's possible that "poor performance in games" is a backwards way of acknowledging that "perfect performance in games" can undo care misses; so to get the worst care characters you can't have been doing well at games

the growth conditions on that chart are pretty simplified though - curlour/ale's research is much more precise

If that's the case, then even with poor parentage I still don't know how I ended up with a Hiratchi despite never missing a discipline call, sleep call or letting the hearts empty out

I know that it's impossible to get a Serious adult with a tier four teen, but I swear to god I've gotten Stubborn adults purely from playing nothing but Jump and deliberately getting only one light

At the time, I was just doing it because it was easy happiness and minimal weight loss

i literally do the same thing on the V2 where i only get happy hearts by playing jump and not winning bc i always raise their weight to their ideal weight rather than keeping it at minimum
and that has never made me get a stubborn adult i didn't want

also, you cannot get a stubborn adult with 0 care mistakes
having bad parents can make it so you only need 2 misses in each category and you cannot get a serious one
but you still need a couple misses

it's Extremely easy to miss a training call by accident, if you do there is no way to know it ever happened (unless you know exactly when it was set to happen and you know you missed the time frame)

just this morning i did not hear my V4 call for training and it was in the same room as me, i just happened to be vacuuming (loud)
but i knew it was set to call around that time so i looked at it and sure enough my nikatchi was crying

i also woke up a bit after my V2 one morning and i checked their stats and they already had a care miss, they must have called while i was still asleep

What's the ideal weight? Is there a reference for it somewhere?

only relevant on the keitai for the race game
but i like to keep all my connections in that range just because it feels better than having them be as skinny as possible
but it's basically
15g for babies, 20g for toddlers, 30g for teens and 50g for adults
normal tier teens tend to actually have a lower ideal weight (25g) and some adults have a lower weight too (45g or even 40g)
i took these weights from official guide books

The idle animations seem to differ between care tiers so I've been trying to document them whenever I get a different one

Huh, an interesting quirk of Unchi-kun is that he can't clean up poop that your Tama makes when on the clock screen, but he immediately cleans it if you scroll back. So if your Tama is asleep with poop next to them, he'll clean it while your Tama is asleep.

so if the shaved ice is obtainable in august, the only way to obtain it (w/o passwords) would be connecting two devices and choosing the present option

As in, it’s still the same animation playing but oyajitchi’s image pointers are wrong (maybe a mistake, maybe those frames dont’t exist for some reason so it defaults to the default sprite?)

I don’t think “didn’t have space” would make sense, these sprites take up a tiny amount of space (32x30 pixels, 1 bit per pixel)

I don’t think it means code copied from a previous version either, I think the more likely explanation is just that they’re reusing the same close up animation for all characters (with the upper left most pixel moving outward to the mid-stage and to the corner for the full closeup) but just haven’t assigned the sprites correctly

each frame uses his default idle sprite and it even gets flipped just as the mid-stage would

Running both my rv3 and v3 and it’s quicker to play bump on the rv3. They got rid of an animation. The text is a few pixels lower on the rv3 for bump. Sorry if it’s already noted.

And oh the battery door is a different size.

V4 moment

oyajitchi had a normal close up sprite on the keitai, but not on the V3
it seems they just took the V3 spritesheets as they were (except they added ringotchi and ichigotchi) and then added the Keitai C-click reactions without taking into consideration that oyajitchi did not have proper close up sprites on the V3

It’s tough because MOST of it is exactly the same but they’ve also changed a few specific things so you can’t just say “it’s the same as the V3/Keitai” without proving it first 🤪😂 Like something as small as Memetchi’s disliked food becoming Cheese instead of Fish since Fish isn’t in the RV3 for whatever reason

But in this case… yeah I think the sleep times are exactly the same

Few things I learned:

• Honey animation cancels when you open another menu, don't remember if that was on the V3 but I believe it was changed on V4 to stay visually until you actually connect
• There's a cute little animation of them kissing during Honey connecting
• Despite maxing out their friendship on both devices, neither will get married. Oyajitchi is likely not old enough, so that means there is a limit against marrying Tamas right away
• I'm gunna have to pause my Pyonko so she doesn't become an Otokitchi -.- though I am curious as to what would happen if an Oyajitchi married an Otokitchi...?
