I assume it’s more that for whatever reason, going for Moll & Lora that many times causes something to go wrong and it shows the grave sprite instead of them, rather than it being programmed as its own distinct character, since its stats and behavior are all identical to Moll & Lora.

haka kun also has its own character index, the actual nonmoving death sprite has a different index

it's just the static sprite lol but it moves around the screen like a normal character

its a weird zombie

there was 1 other character index that gets drawn as like a weird glitchy cocoon (like the usual tokyo tower sprite but glitchy and moving) but i never found anywhere it got used

The child stage only calls for justice 3 times btw @bronze cliff @carmine valve

you can miss all the justice calls in the child stage and still get mothra leo i think, but it starts with 0 justice as a teen in that case so you have to make sure to catch all 4 calls. (as opposed to only needing 2 calls if you were disciplined about giving discipline in child stage)

Since you were the person to solve the mystery I’m certainly going to end up talking about your work in the video, and it would be great to be able to talk with you about it, instead of just having to talk about you. The videos I make are real passion projects so I like to do my due diligence and craft ‘em with love.
There isn't any time pressure, it's whatever you're comfortable with, and it might be a week or so before I know what questions I need to ask as I clean up the script. well the text there is specifically referring to the mechanism of requiring the character to lay an egg before dying, so it can only be referring to moll&lora and haka

but the fact that you actually can interpret it as applying to both of them, is very interesting. They may have intended it as a hint for haka as well

Otherwise the use of "4th gen or later" wouldnt make sense, since moll&lora dont require ghogo or godzilla to lay an egg. and the text does say SUPER hidden character so potentially something not on the chart

so in the worst case it's 16 * (character stat) + 16 waking hours basically

for child & teen the average is still low even if you feed them a shit ton of candy lol

How does the timer for Justice Calls work? Its not an exact timer, looking at those variables is it like
After random timer between MaxTime and x
- If justice hasn't been called more than the max calls: Do call

it can call once an hour but it's a bit random

but there is a max number of times it can skip calling, so you're guaranteed to eventually get a call. that max number is character-specific

also there is a limit on the number of calls it can make, so in general if you miss one you won't be able to get 100%

How much does weight affect health and evolution? or is it just treats eaten that affects health

it makes the tama more likely to get sick for every 3 that you feed it, but otherwise doesnt affect them

except there's a point where you feed it a specific number and then it stops getting sick. thats the Immortality Strat i talk about in the writeup

(as a side effect of immortality it also wont get needier as it gets older)

so having the weight at 78 and then letting it slowly creep downward is safest

its technically only checked once, when the time to evolution counter is hit. so if you know the window where that will happen you can game it and only have weight in the 70s during the window

but the safest is to just keep it in 70-79 the whole time so you dont have to think about it

I really appreciate how vintage tamas are so simple on the surface, but provide a surprising depth of gameplay - it's just spread out over a long period of time, as you raise different tamas and learn how your care affects them. The fact that the screen is on all the time means they have a constant ambient presence and don't have to be fully entertaining/absorbing while interacting with them directly - it's such a cool design, and I think Mothra and Morino are some of the most well balanced of the bunch. (Tho the Angel is also adorable and has the best game!)

Letting post-first gen babies on the Osu/Mesu stay up past the usual eleven hours really speeds things up since it gets them pretty close to their evo windows

If you have the guts to spend 18 hours awake, you can shave off a chunk of the child period

Can't remember what the parent departure window on the Osu/Mesu is, but as soon as you hit it, you're all good to just set the time to a little before midnight and kickstart things instead of waiting most of an extra day

Same thing goes with getting adults ready to breed

Make them fall asleep, wake them up and they should be good to go

May or may not need to let it tick over to 12am while they're asleep, can't remember

But if they evolve early in the morning, it's just another way to save a lot of time

yeah i was gonna say, if you're sure you hit 39 candies, and then you fed 1 more and now it's getting sick, then i guess that means you fed it some candies in an earlier stage so it rolled over

if you think you might have undershot 39, then you could try feeding 3 more candies to see if it stops getting sick lol

on my 2nd mothra leo i accidentally fed 2 extra snacks, which would have been a big disaster except i hadn't fed any candies to it before. But if i'd fed it 1 more it would have been over

@devout pawn FYI i'm editing some of your changes to the mothra wiki pages, i think saying there is a bracket for immortality is going to cause people to think it's OK to feed mothra leo 41 snacks and then be confused when it gets sick and dies because they fed 1 candy as a baby or w/e

it's kind of hard to explain the mechanic well on the wiki but i think just giving a single number is safest for everybody lol

i added a small explanation of it underneath the Death section on the main page as well, that explains the risk if you feed too many snacks after hitting that point

i'm also just nuking the evolution conditions for the non-secret adults from the individual pages because they're complicated and i feel like it's better to just reference the growth chart. But if you want to update them with the correct information that's fine lol

it's interesting to see the conditions that were written down before. Like for a lot of characters it was thought that you needed to do something special with the weight which turned out to be wrong

the thing about some characters having different base weights depending on care taken is interesting, i don't think i saw any evidence for that in the code. But i could be wrong and that's a thing, i didn't actually test all these evolution paths on emulator

and you can leave hearts half empty too and just not make up a couple of those tons

Yeah if you're at 3 sicknesses already then I guess its worth it to immortality strat! If you're near the 71-80hr window though I think I'd do it gradually. A few snacks, a few games, snacks, games etc, so you don't spike the weight

Also if you are positive you got 5 care mistakes, then that means you probably way undershot the evolution window, and it hadn't hit it yet when leo died. Or it died from being sick for 6 hours or having empty hearts for 12 hours but those seem pretty unlikely

(if you're paying attention to when it beeps, you can roughly figure out when you will hit the 5th care mistake, i listen for the beep from hungry and beep from happy, then write out on a whiteboard the expected times for everything to happen lol)

Still took me until a few weeks ago to read that it wasn't July 1997 anymore though

It does however put it a little closer to the release date of the Digimon V5, which may or may not matter because it's obvious as all hell that Bandai reused and tweaked Battra and Godzilla's (who was already a Tyranomon edit) sprites for Flymon and DarkTyranomon
