The Google drive with belen's teardown videos and template!
We will just post it multiple times daily
Here's my uni!!
Stripped the screws by accident, but managed to use a 2.0 flathead to get them out - luckily the back clicks on so I've been able to leave the screws out for now , but hoping to be able to find screw replacements!!
I love the beaded strap it's so cute!!
Oh thanks its from Smiggle ๐ โค๏ธ
guess where I'm going tomorrow then
They have some super cute stuff in for their anniversary too
whoooaa nelly these already look incredible compared to the original faceplates :o
yes lol
I just really didn't like the random green they threw in there
Like make a pink and blue or pink and purple tama, that fits, you have the button and back matching - why throw in an extra colour randomly!!
Naked....
I have a bone to pick with that green...
I'm already trying to figure out how easy it'd be to 3d print some new buttons ๐ค
From experience, they're usually easier to resin cast, you can get a kit on amazon
FDM printing isn't precise enough, and resin printing still requires you to 3D design the thing
Yeah my friend has a resin printer but I'm shit with CAD so it'd be more work than its worth
Resin casting would probably be the ideal aha
I've been using blender a bit so if i manage a good model ill post it here and on thingiverse - once ive tested it though
this really makes me want to buy a second Uni
not sure if this is a good place to ask, but has anyone made cases for their Uni yet? I'm curious if it is close enough to a Smart's size that I can use one of my crochet cases
I think there's examples of crochet cases in the leaks thread?
I can vouch for getting 2 and making a full pink and a blue/purple one... Don't wanna enable but also

Okay cool, maybe my smart case will hold me over until I get a new one. That pattern looks so cool how it hugs the sides!
aaa this is so cute!! i wanna make it tyy
2.5mm hook
my comfy hook is a 3
yeah! its just the case might end up a little looser :c
oh i dont even have a 2.5
๐
guess i'll try it with the 3!
I might try my hand at designing a 3D printed TPU case for the Uni
Could look into the buttons seeing as someone mentioned it earlier
They looked fairly simple and luckily all 3 are the same, which makes things even easier
If you buy the cyber white strap you can dye it to any colour you want. That's what folks did with the vital bracelet

No dye doesn't rub off really. It might fade if you use acetone or something on it but generally it's pretty hard to get out
Started. I'm so bad at crochet into chains ughhh
gimme a magic ring
anyone know if its supposed to be that gappy or do i just need to crochet tighter ๐ญ
Wow, I can't believe people are already customizing their Unis! So so glad we can swap out the faceplates - can't wait for next weekend
Does the hot glue stick method still works for removing the screw covers? I'd be so worried about scratching the back with the pliers/needle method
Also - idea: put something decorative over the battery area since the back is transparent and you'll be able to see it (instead of the random battery text)
been trying to crochet kinda tight since my hook is too big ;c hope it works out, its making my hands hurt lmao
might end up being a little big, hard to say
knackered though so gonna leave it here and go sleep
nn!
night night! c:
Posting here too as I didnโt know this thread existed!
Oh! I've never tried this! I have a glue gun at home but it wouldn't be a great test on ours because I've already removed the covers so much they're definitely not as stuck on as out of the box
How scary is it to take apart the uni?
I found it terrifying but Iโm a clutz who is bad with her hands ๐
I was shaking the whole time
I don't know your skill level, so you're better off checking for yourself!

These look great switched!
It looks like that's how they were originally intended to be released.
agreed, they look sooooooo much better when swapped imo
I tried making it yesterday using a pattern from Reddit. And idk how I managed to still make it too big? I used the right crochet hook & yarn, tension was tight.
I may retry and size a hook down instead
@normal herald here
Thank you!
Managed to get the faceplate off without causing damage by going near the buttons and raising from the left. Easy as it was I think doing it too much may wear down the tabs?
Aaaand just realised itโs not neat ๐คฃ damn close up
Ahh so did you take it off without actually disassembling? Neat!!
Yeah the tabs were mega flimsy, before we tried the popping it out method I was trying to lift the tabs from the inside and they were so soft my tweezers just made dents in them instead of lifting them up
Yeah really gentle wiggles but it was a bit too close for comfort to the screen really and it pops in and out all too easily so i dont want it to start coming off so will stick to the full teardown from now on i think XD
Oh yeah one of the things I like doing it the teardown way is after you pop the faceplate back onto the front shell, you can adjust the paper to line up with the screen corners. The pressure between the two pieces is just enough that you can wiggle the paper into place and then it stays there as you finish re-assembly
Yeah definitely the better option
i do wish bandai would have done swappable faceplates for the uni. seems more or less perfect since it's kind of a fashion accessory. easy revenue for them, more options for us!
Custom unis in their watch straps
i love this so much ๐ฅบ๐ธ๐ what tools did you use to raise the plate?
Ohhhhh I just got some resin casting stuff recently, I could totally make some silver or gold color buttons.....
I love this but cannot crochet, hope they do commissions ejjwd
how are yall getting them early whaatt ๐ญ
Smyth's in the UK got a little cheeky
I believe in you
I used bonsai shears but I won't be doing it again, it was really close to the screen and the tabs were already pretty small
If you want to do the teardown method instead, check the pinned message for vids and custom faceplate templates!
I'd 100% recommend Belen's method since its a lot lot safer and far less likely to damage your tama
okay thank you!
im using a pattern that was shared here the other day (https://tinyclove.com/tamagotchi-uni-case), finally got round to picking it back up again, so far its looking as though it might turn out okay! i wasn't confident though, and didn't cut the yarn where the pattern said to ๐ gl to me picking that back up to tie it off i guess lmao i have no idea what im doing
im using ricorumi yarn and a 3mm hook
Ah thatโs the one I was trying! I used DK yarn and 2.5mm hook but it was coming up massive ๐
I may try again soon but with a 2mm hook
ahh
are there different weights of dk?
ricorumi is dk but it doesnt say anything about the weight
I think DK is all basically the same
So no clue what happened there
My tension is always quite tight too so ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
yeah weird :( did you finish it or just decide part way round that it was too big?
i guess the sides do close it in a little once you start on them
the back does feel a bit baggier than i would like so far though
but i put that down to my dodgy chain at the start haha
- the bigger hook
I got quite a fair bit through before I noticed. So I just need to frog it and try again
:(
im nervous about getting to the wavy bits, since they're quite exact to the shell ๐ฌ
My disability gives me a bad hand though so Iโll have to wait for it to feel a little better before I try again though!
Good luck! Iโm sure itโll go great
aw that's rough, sorry ๐ญ crocheting is definitely not easy on the hands especially trying to keep the tension tight! good luck for you too when you pick it back up again โค๏ธ looks like i actually only have two more rounds to do so i guess i'll finish it then figure out what im gonna do about the bit i left lool
I just left a little excess yarn lmao ๐ maybe I'll just leave that stitch holder in there forever... ๐
I caved and bought a faceplate from tinytiger ink. I think it complements the pink and blue very well
The image is from her etsy
So exciited
I like how the pearlescent
"mixes" the blue and pink to bring them together
Exactly! I love anything opalite lately
great choice! beaut colour for it
Haha weird it almost lines up but not quite
Thatโs the issue Iโm kinda having with the pattern too
And why did it grow ๐
Hmm did you do the decreases? Or maybe made an extra row ๐ค
Thereโs no decreases for this pattern. And I followed it as written so who knows
Ohhh huh thats odd imma take a look rq
Ohh i see it now, I think then its just a matter of sizing down sadly ๐ฅ
Sometimes crochet hooks are different even though they should be the same size technically so that might have been it
any ideas why my charge port hole doesn't line up with the border around the screen?
I can't decide whether to keep it or not haha
Could be a few different things, such as having a different tension in your hook and therefore making it be too much to the side, or perhaps counting wrong which is what happens to me most often lol
I think itd probably be a counting problem since the rest seems to fit well, but crochet is a petty god who favours no one so it could just be bad luck lol
But im not sure its a big problem enough to consider redoing the whole thing, i think it looks perfect but it depends on how often itd bother you
Also what thickness of yarn did you use? It does seem slightly thinner than the og one so thatd affect the end product
Something I've done when crocheting for the ON is adding a ribbon into the front, then you can cinch the case tight onto the tmgc
If it's loose*
I've done my fair share of crochet but attempting a tama case - with the precise tension I'd have to maintain - is definitely intimidating!
Yeah, as a crochet newbie I gotta say that the ribbon technique definitely saved my work from being unusable lol
Aaa thanks so much appreciate the insight! It's not the counting, while I do lose count a lot, I use a stitch marker to mark the start of each round and finished exactly where I was supposed to do I was surprised it turned out wonky from the hole!
Aww then its definitely the crochet gods testing you, I was making some shorts the other day and suddenly using the same hook and same yarn one panel was 1/3 bigger lmao
It's ricorumi, DK? I'm not sure
it's just what I always use
It's sometimes easy to accidentally add an extra stitch each round, at least I always mess that up.
Omg whyyy ๐ญ that's amazing though shorts! So cool :D
I have no clue, probably my tension cause i checked the stitches so ๐คท i was tested that day lol
I didn't have high expectations when I started this with questionable yarn and the wrong hook size though, so I am happy with how it's turned out! Just can't decide whether to keep it or not haha
I think with the cost of that type of yarn, you could try again but id def keep the one you already made too!
Oh yeah that's a good point! I have other similar colours too, so I could pick another colour and keep the one that fits the best. Thanks!
It's a pretty tight fit too so I don't think I'd have to be as strict with the tension a second time round
Yeah! plus you get to match to the mood too! Maybe for another outfit choice!
And also, sorry if it's already been asked, but where is the hole for the charms to be hung on it? (This as in the tama uni body, not the crochet case)
You could leave a gap to have that accessible if youre planning on using any!
Yeah the pattern doesn't accommodate for that :( I did think that while I was making it
I'm not sure I could figure out where to make the hole and still have everything match up
i think you could make some really cute faceplates using the promo art for the uni hehe
Usually if I make a Tama case I just wing it and keep trying it till it matches up but I don't think I can do that when theres the charge port in the middle and the wavy frame to keep right
Well, if it helps im going tama hunting tomorrow, and if i find one im gonna figure it out!
Ooo good luck!! That'd be awesome
Yeah! I called a few places and they all said theyd put it out as soon as they got it, so wednesday or thursday but im antsy lol
I'm still quite new to crochet, years ago I made a bunch of simple Tama cases but otherwise I've just made a handful of amigurimi plushes haha
And mostly ricorumi and their patterns so I haven't really branched out much ๐
Ooo that'd be so cool! I can't believe it's almost release already :D
It was my baby's birthday on the 9th so I was really glad to get mine early, I didn't want to wish any time away but I did really want it haha
Oohh ive just been crocheting for about a year! But I got REALLY into it, so I cant do things that are too advanced but I can manage a few things... not amigurumi tho hahah
Awww thats so sweet!!! Glad that that worked out so well
Aw I don't find amigurimi too bad! Definitely needs a stitch marker, I make two stitches into the next round then clip the marker onto the first one (I do two so it doesn't get in the way or pull the stitch loose)
And sometimes an electronic counter to keep track of which round I'm on, I used to write it on paper until my MIL gave me this! Haha
I'm really sporadic with my crochet, I'll do a bunch at once then get burnt out
Right she's back asleep now :D so I'm gonna go back to bed, hope you get your uni tomorrow!! I'll keep an eye out for you trying your hand at a case, feel free to @ me though when you get there if you can remember, no pressure ๐
What I use is an exacto knife and a cutting mat, if you don't have a mat, cutting on top of cardboard can help! Sharp scissors are also a good idea, but they'll have to be very small and sharp, like nail scissors
Love the design!!! Just remember to check the instructions, as the uni screen is actually the outer square, so the design you have showing now will actually be a bit less on the device (the inner square is a 2cmx2cm for printer calibration)
ohhhh oki thank you
Been playing around with the template you posted and I think Iโm going to do this once I finally get my Uni! Itโs gonna match my pix then ๐๐ฝ Then again maybe I should try something new? Ahhh so many options!
Thanks @vale pollen for tagging me to share here! There is a shell test I did with my friend to try to make full Clear UNI Shells in the futur! Will keep the group updated about it ๐ If some of you would like their UNI fully clear
Entirely custom shells... ๐
I love it, that is so cute!
i'm super unsure on what to make my faceplate when i get my uni
so many options
and i'd have to get it printed at like staples or cvs or something
ohhh makes sense
How hard was it to remove the screw caps on uni?
they can be fiddly but if you can just get the right angle they pop out
have you seen belens video?
You can also use the hot glue trick from the Smarts. The screw caps are not glued in.
easy if u follow the belen video
fuckin impossible otherwise
Have you tried the hot glue trick on the uni specifically? If I can get some confirmation I can update the guide
Nice!! When I have some time I'll add it as an alternative in the tips image
I was inspired by your colour swaps, I think they are much better this way!
Still undecided about changing the paper though.
With the shell swap, the original paper looks pretty good anyway!
Ah that's what I wanted to know! , that very good that they are not glued in , i don't dare open my niziu smart because its glued in
I honestly donโt know why they didnโt originally go for this! The colors fit so much better when they are swapped, especially the buttons!
Lol Iโm already setting aside some money in case they do release more colors in the future and I end up falling in love with the Uni so they got me there!
If they release a white or black one Iโm going broke ๐
I feel like clear atomic purple would really go with the retro vaporwave vibe they have going
Or even that gorgeous 25th anniversary re-release P1 shell, clear shell with a lavender iridescent finish - only because I love that shell so much and I want it on a tama I like playing with more
Iโm suspecting a black//green one and a white//orange one to match the launch straps.
If they released a black/green one I would give them all of my money immediately
Did anyone share their uni faceplate designs here? I mean, the printable files? So far I only know about tinytigerink selling physical ones
I uploaded a template to make your own on the gdrive folder! The ones I've made already use art made by other people so I'm uncomfortable sharing them on a personal drive. Making your own with your favourite images is super simple tho!
(Also check the media on this topic to see what designs people have already shared pics of)
Sure, I understand :). I created custom faceplates for my pix, but I always like others' designs more ๐
i like grabbing cardstock or origami paper from craft shops for stuff like that, less hassle for design ๐คฃ
If you like mine, I'm happy to share via DM instead of a public distribution folder, if it's someone else's you're after, just ask them! I'm sure some people here are happy to share theirs
My only reason for thinking that won't happen is that the Tamas come with the wrist strap,
So like they'd be releasing the strap and the Tama that comes with the strap
If I remember correctly the Smart bands that they released don't correspond with any released combos so I have doubts.
I'm hoping they're stupid doubts and that I'm proven wrong, because I need a black with transparent green.
There were, but that was the only one that had a smart release later, and even then the band itself had a matching theme to the Smart that it came with.
... If that makes sense lol
I hope they make themed Unis. Like a Sanrio one would be so awesome!
I cant take these damn screw covers to put in my custom faceplate, I did watch the video, but mine aren't budging
How thin are your tweezers? I recommend sticking them down a lot before trying to flick them off, to really get into the notch that allows you to lift them
you could try a needle !! and make sure youre doing it from the inside bit
Crochet case and Pom Pom tail
Cute, the pompom is like a lil stand!
Whoa, multicoloured crocheting!
wait a second
I don't think we've seen a Neliatchi come from Tustustchi until now
It's good to note either way
I'm not sure how much influence the eggs have, but this does match up with what we learned about Mametchi earlier
He's also available from all three male teens, like Neliatchi is from the girls
i do love this part of a new game, figuring out the hows and whys
I don't regret dedicating so much of the last two weeks to this at all
It's all so interesting!
i actually thought the style of the items and rooms having a point system for maybe evolution but who knows, just a theory
since you can put an item down and they grow to like it
Maybe
We still have no idea how the teens work, so maybe it has something to do with decorations?
and i had the botanical walls when i got tustu and the flowers indoors
when i had lion it was the fluffy walls and rainbow stuff
Fair shout!!
What material are you using for the screen protector? Trying to figure out what kind of product to get that I can cut down to size
Yeah im going to try hydrogel, which should work but ya know, who knows
Yess but i get the feeling someone else will first lol, i got it off aliexpress for 50 cents so...minimum 2 weeks
I will try to find a cheap one somewhere else before that though
this but green would maybe make me buy a Uni lol
If the first Shells follows the PIX fashion, next UNI would surely have green and Blue for sure ^^ then more! I hope for Yellow ๐ค
lol i hope for red and yellow! or black!!!
red aint common in tamas these days and its my fav color
I really hope the rumours of ten different shell options are true so that they can cater to many people's favourite colours
I'm really hoping for a blue that isn't too light or too close to the green side of the spectrum like the mint blue Smart was
yeah
Yellloooow ๐ค
Lemon yellow + lime green + white
The solid color front would be yellow, the transparent color lime green, the faceplate green and white
Maybe Iโll draw a pic later
i can imagine that being an actual shell at somepoint tbh
possibly yellow and pink but i kinda hope for no more pink
I know - this particular color pink is a shade of pink I love but I appreciate the huge variety of designs on vintage/rerelease, connection/plus, and nano shells.
they honestly have made SO many good nano shells! bandai i know you're capable, please.....
(not to mention the amazing connection shells ofc)
I wish I were a fan of Demon Slayer, those traditional-Japanese-design shells are to die for
agreed
Wait... wait... ok I need to pick up some traditional origami to make a faceplate
Um... what traditional Japanese colors go with hot pink ๐
wagara that's the word I'm looking for
hehehe
origami sheets make such goooood faceplates. as does wrapping paper
but for the bright pink, i suppose browns and light pinks? a touch of yellow?
idk i feel as though pink and blue clash a bit badly
Yellow would be pretty easter-y, and light pink would be too femme for me - brown might be nice actually
i was thinking of this bad boy
ooooh - the pink is so SO bright it kinda kills the sakura vibes
But the back and buttons are blue
ah yeah the blue buttons for sure throw it off
So it'd actually reduce the color palette to a more reasonable number
maybe a more simple black design? black and white, mod vibes
oh yeah red could be interesting
Hmmmm neon cyan tho ๐
Ok new goal, wagara but in vaporwave colors
Would go well with the aesthetics in the actual gameplay too
yessssssssss
i think if i had the pink one i'd do some sick neon yellow-green faceplate, maybe zebra stripes, idk
I have the abomination I made last month or something saved in layers, so take this and go ahead with the creative freedoms
noice
I may not like this idea as much as I thought I would in my head actually
I'll try some wagara ideas after dinner
Now that's a nice edit!
I love that!
this makes me love yellow
I want one with the bright transparent green lol
YESSS perfect! I actually like that you left the default paper from the pink Uni, the blue is a nice addition
i would've engaged in today's blood bath of finding a Uni if this was a day 1 release color. Really nice edit
I've made a few, I got really into the "what if" factor lol
A crochet case with fluffy ass yarn muffles the sounds a lot
Ok so I dont know if anyone had done this before buut
I was having issues cause i hate the loud fried noise it makes so this makes it super tolerable, kinda whisper level
everything was going well and then i stripped the last screw
floofy
Rip
Its my fave yarn! From a brand that no longer exists
I hate it when that happens
I was heartbroken, they werelovely and cheap af
I make my kid stuff out of the same yarn all the time so if that ever gets discontinued i hope its a long time from now ๐คฃ
I even made him a teddy today but theres no face yet so its a bit creepy
its weighted too but my first attempt at a teddy ๐คฃ
does anyone have any tips for the hot glue method? ๐ the issue i keep running into is that the glue just peels off when i try to unscrew it
Has anyone tried putting washi tape or something over the speaker from the inside, when opening up the device? It really is pretty loud and harsh when not muffled by the watch (or a finger)
Traced belenโs faceplate template to create a vector version!
Iโm also working on one that includes layers for the shell and buttons and faceplate gloss so you can preview how the faceplate might look better
I can't wait to see!
cc @tardy stump something to add to your Drive
Assuming @vale pollen's permission of course
Does anyone have a proper scan of the Uni's faceplate on a flat surface? Like outside of the Tama and just flat.
Totally fine with me!
Pull the glue up and away from the shell, don't twist it
Check pinned!
you may need to try a different brand of glue. also give the gun a few extra minutes to heat up
belated thank you for this :D it looks epic
Some wagara-inspired designs
Feel free to mess with these! (Not sure if all the hidden layers for the shell got exported, gotta double-check that)
Ok fixed up the template as a nice SVG with all the layers. Set up for the pink uni and default faceplate (tho not a very accurate one, I was eyeballing it)
Ooo SVG? So I could use this with a cricut?
Ahh I didn't open it I guess it's not to scale haha
Looks great though!
ahh i quite like the first one! it's a beautiful design
These wall hangers we have are perfect for getting the little plugs out.
I used an xacto knife on the first one and it worked but I wanted to try something else (because I snapped the tip of my blade on the second one lmao)
3M command strips to the rescue!
At this point thereโs just so many options to remove them lol
Bite them out
The Tama Uni(d to get to a dentist because that is some hard plastic and it can't be good for you)
So wait Iโm assuming you just applied the sticky bit to the cover and pulled back? I was going to try needles but that looks like it might be easier
It's so much easier. With these you hold them down for a few seconds and then just lift up.
No hot glue, no silly shit, no gouging your plastic, just press down for 10 seconds and then lift up and away from the device.
That seems so much better! Thank you so much!
Whaaat thats amazing! Took me a sec to figure out what I was looking at ๐ before I read your explanation. Great idea!
I didn't want to mess with hot glue and these are the most adhesive thing we have in the house short of super glue
I literally have a spare one of these, I bought some last week. ๐ tempting
It's easy mkaaay
Working on a little something for when my Uni arrives~
Oh I thought I exported it correctly but maybe not - did it not open at all for you?
omg sorry i didnt mean that sorry
i mean its more like a model to use digitally than for faceplates?
It has a bunch of layers you can turn off - I can export a version with just the outline if that would help!
oo i see that's cool! might have a go with it then :D
i'll see how it opens in the cricut program
it opens nice c:
and you can just toggle the bits off
ive not really used this for stuff like that before though ๐ so im not an expert
oh thats really sweet of you thanks so much!
oh the only thing is im not sure what size to make it
would 8cm be the largest part?
i guess it trimmed some empty space
trying to figure out how i can use the little guide square to make sure the rest resizes with it
but ive not used this program much haha
you'd think attaching them would do that but apparently not ๐
8x8 is the size of the file... hm ok I'll had back in the calibration square
thanks ๐ญ sorry for the trouble
No worries! It's meant to be useful!
@vale pollen Do you have a psd version of the template with the uni shell layers for using in an art or image editing program? :0
No, sadly the program I'm using doesn't let me export a PSD. Illustrator at least should be able to open the SVG though (the first one I posted)
try this, i just converted the svg file
(if you meant a different file let me know)
i'll have more of a play with this tomorrow but i managed to make a nice test cut! :D
looks pretty spot on
the program was being pretty annoying though haha, couldnt figure out a way to get the template to resize with the calibration square other than just dragging and checking the size till it was right
and then for some reason, i didn't know what blade pressure to use and had to rerun it but for some reason it was only recutting the outside and not the screen border whyyyy
ended up cutting into my mat a little trying to figure that out thanks cricut
omg i just remembered we had some screen protectors come today
i wonder if i can use it to cut one of them ๐
maybe best make it a tad smaller though haha
Omg amazing!! Do let me know if it needs any adjustments!
Can't believe you already made something with it xD
appreciate you sg tyy :D
lmao i couldnt wait
i didnt even plan on taking my uni apart
You're very welcome
but then purpldevltchi tempted me with the command strip hack and youre tempting me with this template ๐
im gonna head to bed though so i'll have to play with it tomorrow :c
but it does look spot on!
That command strip hack sounds so cool, I'm definitely going to have to try that (despite having purchased a bunch of hot glue sticks...)
Good night! (maybe I'll need to get a hot glue gun, heh)
night night! haha yeah maybe ๐ i think they can be pretty cheap though generally
Now you've got me thinking about ordering a second, since if I'm taking it apart I may as well swap the buttons and backplate over
๐
You love it!
Also yaaaay baby
Thanks! Attempting to open with medibang paint wish me luck
Update: program crashed three times trying to open it ๐ญ
do you have a pattern for this that you can share? i would also like to muffle the sound LOL
What paint did you use ๐ฎ
im really sorry for the ping but would you happen to have images of how the swapped backs look from the side and back as well?
that looks so good holy shit
Thanks! I'm excited for it to cure overnight. I'm gonna slap this baby together and have a new little buddy to take to work with me!
cant wait to see the final product
This is wild
are you planning on changing the faceplate too?
Welp, just ordered a purple for myself and a pink for a friend. Gonna swap button and back colors and customize them both.
Using uh, well since I can't access the template I'm just sort of using sg's image demonstrating the template in use for now. Have ideas roughed for the pink and brainstorming ones for the purple.
Not sure what I want exactly yet on mine, but... space theme fun
That's a really nice clean job! The wonders of airbrushing/spray paint.
Did you add a protective coat over it or is it just the paint?
hudjwje the. Stickers
Yeah! I grabbed the wrong one when I was coating the back. I was going to go with a higher gloss buuut accidentally used the satin finish.
Ooft this looks so good
Ah sort of! I free handed it, but i used a 6mm hook with super chunky yarn, the brand is marriner yarns get cozy for size reference
1 row: Magic ring, 7sc into the ring
2nd row: do 2 single crochet in every previous sc
3rw onwards was just doing single crochets on the round til desired size, but you might need to do more or less rows depending on your yarn, I did 5 rows total i think?
I just spent my first day as a Uni owner making a 99.9% accurate tracing of the face plate (I had to cut like 10 different versions). Tomorrow... I get to play!
I half-ass want to make one of those with Oyajitchi lol I was looking at his art on the wiki earlier
I had been drawing Mametchi the past few weeks, so I just used a bunch of my favorite drawings. My favorite is probably him in a vortex along with the Disney Parks guest one
thanks!!
@dark basin How did you remove the top sensor part to paint?
ohhh lol i love these drawings! awesome faceplate design in general :D
i'm sorry ๐ญ i can try again. if you want to try too, i loaded the svg into photopea.com and then used the "save as psd" option
You have to pop the hooks holding it to the frame of the screen.
Like it's one of those clasps that you'd squeeze to get on.
I kind of wiggled a thin little flathead in between the speaker bit and wiggled it around until I could push the post away and unhook the cover.
After that I worked my fingernail in-between the actual speaker and the top bit when it was loose.
After it was off I used an xacto knife and shaved down the pegs so that it slides on and off.
Ah thanks. That's a little too scary for me. haha. I think I'll just keep the top as is. Actually, keeping the pink with the blue is reminiscent of one of my first Tamagotchi shells... so I think I'll keep it
That's SLICK!!
Why the hell didn't they release this thing in more colors off the bat?!
That navy blue.
Argh, that just makes me want Bandai to make a blue shell even more
Oh that looks amazing!!
Thats the best colour ever omg
I'd sell my soul to ensure that the alleged leaks of at least ten shell options ends up being true
Same. I need more colors.
I need a transparent green backplate to make my uni watermelon colours c:
Looks great beans!
OMG same
I was wondering about using a transparent yellow paint(?) on my pink and see if the back turns a nice green
I love green
yoooo what did you use to paint it? airbrush?
No I opted to just get a spray can! I do have an airbrush, but I use that for my barely-handled collectibles. Give me the chemical stuff for this Tamagotchi that will most certainly be dropped here and there lol. I got it from Michael's - it's called ColorShot. Scuba color.
did you have to sand the plastic beforehand?
I did! First with 400 lightly and then 1000
It actually looks a little dark in the photo. It's a little bit brighter than that
It looks a little like this one but not as vibrant:
I also sprayed it with a matte spray after (the original color is gloss)... since I don't particularly care for gloss
@real falcon
hmmm i have 800 and 1500 and 2200 grits laying around
and i was planning on using markers
800 and 1500 should suffice. I did have 2000 as well, but I decided to not use it because you want the shell to have some grit to it so the paint can stick better. I didnโt need to completely flatten the shell with 2000
Transparent yellow on pink would make a vibrant orange!
oo i mean tthe blue back on the pink shell
not the pink back from the purple shell my bad lmao
forogt to clarify
Same! I did the "satin" finish
Ha I figured gloss + matte would equal satin... and it's pretty close!
It might, that blue is very light
It would be a cool project!
i might give it a shot sometime ๐ณ
will any acrylic paint do? idk shit so a guide would be highly welcome on how to paint shells. i don't really have the environment to use anything in spray, so either markers so paint
I use an airbrush, with brush and markers I always see slight streaks so I don't really dig them.
Acrylic paint will do as long as you water it down enough so it won't be clumpy and show brush strokes.... and then finish it off with a sealer! The most important part is sanding it so the paint sticks
Yeah, same!
i don't want to poison kitties tho ;-;
Also, the brand of acrylic paint you use can determine if you'll see brush strokes.
I did my spraying outside on the balcony. I also have a cat in my living situation.
It's actually one reason why I did a spraycan as opposed to my airbrush paints... I'm not set up with my airbrush indoors right now to protect the kitty. ๐ so the balcony had to do
Haha I think I had one attempt at brushing it on and hated how it looked, so I bought a little spray can of paint for model shit, then I'm suddenly buying a cheap airbrush to practice, then I jump in and snag some iwata something or other because I was dying to spend too much money on something I use on toys lmao
That's how I started getting into airbrushing as well lol. I was actually into making vinyl toy customs over a decade ago.
so far i only know posca and tarrago (acrylic paint for shoes lol)
I'm no good with actually airbrushing a proper portrait/image though. I tried it. I'm a "master" with creating images with stencils though. But freehand? Absolute trash. haha
I'm like "this is like scribbling with crayons but in 3D and now my stuff is a different color"
This was one of my best pieces:
NICE! The detail on that is great!
Thanks! I'm most proud of the stitching in the balloon
That was stencil?
whoooaaa the dark blue is stunning
Yup! Everything was designed in adobe illustrator first and then moved on over to be stencils for each element
That's badass! Ha I should mess with that and get some little designs on this thing.
I've always wanted to do a custom Tamagotchi with small details, but tbh I don't really want to because I am just worried it will get scratched up anyway... so I'll just stick to blasting it with one color and putting a design behind plastic. haha
and then leave my detailed work to other mediums
oh and that toy is so cool too, whoa
Used SGs template to make some screen protectors c:
Sizing turned out nice I think I went with 2.5cm
But I left dust

I DID WIPE THE SCREEN
๐ might redo them and try a little harder, but I'm happy with how they came out anyway
ah i managed to lift it and remove the large piece of dust with some masking tape
so i'll probably leave it
its masking the small scratch our baby made, and will prevent her from making anymore if she grabs it again so nbd. way less stressful than applying screen protectors to phones ๐
Compared to customising the pix.. my head hurts lol
I'll take a better picture when it's day time but I made this design and finally managed to get it in there
Are people mainly using the glue stick method to get the Uni open?
Yeah it worked great - only one was stubborn
What was your technique? If you donโt mind me asking
This looks amazing! Can I ask what paint you used?
So far we've had:
- hot glue
- 3M command tape
- Sharp tweezers (in teardown vid)
- needle with pliers
I used 3M wall hangers. I used an xacto knife on one particularly stubborn one lol
I heated up the glue stick for a few seconds (like 5-7 seconds) and then pushed it face-on to the plastic. I made sure to give it a good push so that the liquid could seep in. I then rested it down so it could cool for about 5 minutes. After that, just pull. If it didn't come off - just try again.
Thanks!
yeah i did think it could be the glue brand, i'm just using the sticks that came with my glue gun so they're probably on the cheaper side, bought some gorilla glue ones so hopefully those work better lol
i used the tweezer method to get the caps off which worked without any issues, only problem i have now is that the last screw is stripped so i'm trying to get that out lol
trying to get the screw out and not the caps so i kinda have to twist them lmao
Here's how I did the entire customization (from the parts removal to the painting and so forth): https://mametchi.keithlapinig.com/how-to-customize-tamagotchi-uni-video-tutorial/
Thatโs super helpful! Thank you so much
Omg that's so nice! Love this
I have tried to get the caps of with command strips and they don't work
I also tried with some tweezers and bent them
Anyone have any tips? I don't have hot glue
pin or needle?
Needle
I got them out on the pink
But the ones on my blue are insanely stuck in there
Gosh I'm drooling over all these cool customs...I'm terrified to even attempt taking mine apart though, lol
I should probably do an easier custom first before I even try to tackle a Uni xD;
I do have two pix, heard those are simple enough
This is so perfect!!
Praying for someone to create a drive of uni faceplate designs bc im shit at making them
So I don't know what happened but
I tried tweezers, they bent and snapped
I tried command strips, 2 different packs and they didn't work
I tried an exacto knife
I tried super glue
I'm down to hot glue and if this doesn't work I'm drilling it
Behold my 3 legged Uni
this is a creature
I had one cap that took like 4 tries. I think the effect you have to go for is it will be like a toilet plunger.
@spice zephyr customs in here :D
Bless
If anyone wants my face plate template that I spent an hour perfecting lol:
https://mametchi.keithlapinig.com/tamagotchi-uni-face-plate-template/
I scanned the original face plate and then traced it on Illustrator and then proceeded to do multiple cuts with test & adjusts until I finally got it right.
And it's 99% accurate when cut with a laser cutter
(not sure how cricuts/etc. will fair. It could also be perfect, or you might need to adjust the kerf)
Love the purple, came out very nice! Halloween Vibes!
Any luck with the other two yet?
Not yet. I'm stuck in a meeting
I found a concept I like but I don't know which of these I like best help
Might also change the flower motif to something else but not sure. I like how it looks though
Oooh I really like 2 + 3! Definitely looking for more vaporwave designs to match the tamaverse aesthetics
i agree with sg! the white really compliments the purple imo
i like 3 the most but idk
2 is like the bisexual flag lol
Not sure if you care about the Tamagotchi Uni logo, but it will be going over your flower design. It will just blend in to look the same as the white flowers.
That is absolutely the intent lol
Definitely leaning towards using white borders, And nah, I don't mind the logo blending in. I kinda want it to
Thanks! The buttons aren't as noticably purple as I'd hoped but the back is the color I was going for!
I got managed to finish the shell swap
Sadly there was some cosmetic damage to the shells
did you combine both Unis??
Yeah, the purple and blue combo is so much better than purple and pink lol
@severe apex the video is pinned in this thread
i love it and honestly i was wondering if that was possible and HOH i love it
thank you!!
realized i missed a star
customed my baby ๐ฅบ๐ฅบ๐ฅบ
thimking,,,
i don't have illustrator and idk how to use the pdf version of the template bngfkjbg
This looks so nice! Idk if it's intentional but it's reminiscent of that TamagoChu shell
Its picochutchi from the uni!!
Just seen this amazing job on Reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/tamagotchi/comments/152iw1j/i_havent_had_one_since_i_was_a_kid_but_now_im_an/
bandai will see all these custom jobs and release a heckin all white uni to promote painting for kids and make me angy >:c
didnt like how the streaks werent aligned, heres a v3 lol
one more before bed
Oh no! What happened?
Glue legs
So far so good!
Okay theyโre out but now the caps are stuck in the glue lol
The screws are stuck ๐
Finished my swap over
Use a flathead screwdriver, push hard into the screw and use little but strong turns to loosen it.
you are all so creative ! I didn't already get my Uni tamagotchi, I don't know if I take the pink or the purple one
I juste wondering, is it easy ton remove the faceplate to change the design ? like on tamagotchi 4U ? thank you !
I stripped the screws pretty bad so I took leave of my senses and pulled the front off with glue sticks lmfao
omggg good effort! i was wondering if you could do something like this with a suction cup but this is amazing too
did the sticks lets marks on the faceplate ?
it should be about the same force on it to pull from the middle as pushing
so sorry about your screws though that really sucks :( especially after you put the effort in to get the caps out
They didnโt! But I donโt wanna say that it wonโt happen at all cos some brands of glue may be stronger than others
Iโm just glad I managed to find an alternative way!
thank you for your answer ! i'm gonna choose the purple one
Iโve just heard from a friend that the screws in the Uni are Phillips screws. Which is why I struggled with my JIS screwdrivers
Alienssssss ๐ฝ
I made a faceplate yesterday out of cardstock but it was too thick ๐ฆ
This is incredible. I remember seeing the mock-ups a few days ago, really nice work!
Where did you get that cute little stand?!
Itโs by charming with you on insta!
Thank you! Also, I see a little polly pocket type compact in the back of your photo. Can you tell me which model it is?
Yeah I did mention this in the gdrive, Phillips 2.0 worked best for me
Thatโs a custom made art piece based off polly pocket
Ah. You have such neat things, I love it!
Ah thank you! I do love some cute trinkets ahaha
I used a flathead because I do not trust Phillips lol
They always strip
I steer clear of flatheads unless strictly necessary due to past trauma stripping pozi screws
anybody used liquitex before? i found a color that i think would look amazing but idk
Liquitex paint isn't bad. They have paints specifically for airbrushes too.
yeah i've saw them in spray form
i'm undecided if i want the shell to be white, light blue or strong blue
To help decide you could maybe use the faceplate template and test whatever faceplate design you want to use around the shell colors
i've ordered opalescent plate from etsy so it's tricky
i would have to see irl how it looks like
this is why white is like the safest bet lol
on vids it looks more on a blue side so i either go for variety or full on blue
for now i'm settling for this
not buying yet until uni and the faceplate arrives
All dressed up
how did you make them so clean :O
^^^!!! Cutting the faceplates is so hard for me lol
my hands don't work good so i'm sooo nervous about cutting the faceplate out myself
i think i might just have to order one
ohhhh
Siblings
it has legs
Ok please tell me how you did this. Iโd like my custom face plate but without having to open the whole thing
Weโre you able to put it back with force?
Also please ping me
Bugsnax....
I just stuck the glue, let it dry and pulled slowly. I found it needed about 2/3 glue sticks to pull it up enough. And yeah once I placed the new faceplate in I was able to just click the plastic plate back into place
So put down a glob of hot glue and attach a glue stick to it and let it dry?
Be careful
If you use too much glue
It may get caught in the cap and make even harder to pull out which is what happened to me
I ended up having to take an incredibly sharp blade and cut around the cap
Oh. Zoe was talking about how she got the faceplate off
Yep! Just avoid going too close to the buttons so it doesnโt sink into the lil gaps
And the screen is fine right?
And be cautious ofc. Mine didnโt leave any marks but thatโs not a promise that it wouldnโt for everyone
Itโs not like the smart where thereโs nothing between the screen and fingers
Yeah the faceplate on this is more like the On where itโs a complete plastic plate over the top of the screen
Disclaimer: the plate tabs are very flimsy, so I don't recommend this method to be done multiple times as I believe they will wear out quickly
And if anybody's curious about the uni's parts, you can also check out the vids and pictures in the pinned gdrive!
It shouldnโt really be any different from pushing it out from the inside. It uses the same level of force
๐ญ imma just not try then lmao
I find that from the inside you can apply more even pressure to all the tabs, but to be honest I don't think we should be removing the plate many times regardless of the method!
this might sound silly but has anyone used liquid mask on the screen yet when painting the shell rather than removing it?
I found that having taking it apart allows for flexing the front shell slightly to help get the faceplate out, which should use less force and avoid damaging the tabs.
Agreed with @tardy stump, the tabs are tiny and look like they would easily degrade after being put in and out many times. My advice would be to do it sparingly, once those tabs are gone, nothing will keep the faceplate on. Can't even use double sided tape due to the background paper, sadly there's no border to hide the tape behind like on a Gameboy screen lens.
I would also prefer to take it apart from the inside but I stripped the screws trying to use my JIS screwdrivers cos I lacked the patience to wait for Phillips lol
Ah dang!!! That sucks
Gotta be careful with JIS, they're pointier than Phillips and aren't a direct replacement. In general, using the largest screwdriver bit you have that still fits and can still turn is best
Iโm always the recipe of my own downfall lmao
Going too small will risk slipping and stripping the screw head
We all learn. An old woodworking tip was to use a rubber band on top of the screw head to increase friction
Maybe the trick would still work, provided the rubber was thin enough
And using a larger Phillips bit might still do the trick
My rule of thumb is if the bit feels loose in the screw head, as in you can twist it back and forth without actually moving the screw itself, then it's too small
Iโm gonna give it a go at some point
Iโm quite happy with my faceplate that I managed to put in though so Iโm not too concerned at doing it any time soon
A wise choice for sure
i might try the same thing cause iโm scared to take my whole device apart lol, how do you melt the ends of the glue sticks?
I used the flame on my stovetop but a lighter would work too. Just hold it close to the flame, not directly in it. And only hold it there a few seconds. It starts to melt fast!
okay, thanks!
also, curious how you all have been going about cutting your face plates out? iโm assuming an exacto knife, but iโm not sure i have one
I bought my faceplate so it was pre-cut but maybe one of those craft knives that rotates would be helpful for the corners etc!
finally got around to adding these to the drive! ty so much for your work
Exacto knife and a cutting mat work wonders, but something sharp and small like nail cutting scissors are a good bet for sure
The plastic is so soft lol one of my pegs is completely gone from taking it off and popping it back on three times total
Well the pattern didn't mention the needle size as far as I can see. That makes a big impact too. And also if you use different wool it will also slightly change the size of the case. I usually check the size in between and adjust the pattern to the materials used.
Noooooooo
Dang I knew they were soft but not that bad.... I think I've been lucky as one of ours I've opened 5 times and it's still ok but I'm leaving it at that
Also I hope someone can make a replacement we can buy!
I had a look at it & it said 2.5mm hook with DK yarn but that still seems too big so who knows lol
Btw if anyone sees a video tutorial for a Uni crochet case go up pls @ me with the link bc Iโd like to try make my own but iโve got no idea how to use the patterns yet
i really want to change the face plate but am really afraid of damaging the back of the plastic screw caps, is there any other suggestions anyone has besides the hot glue method? please lmk!
@minor gazelle check this out!
oh my gosh thank you so much thats perfect and also with materials i already have!! super appreciate it ๐
It looks like a goddamn Bugsnax

how do you safley remove the faceplate without damaging it ๐ญ
Check the pinned messages!
More for the Plus series
Push it out from behind on the top, there's more space to push from there.
This one is badass lol
i hope this works lol
what are you trying to do? Lmao ๐คฃ
using melted hot glue sticks to pull off the face plate instead of taking the whole thing apart
it worked for someone else
omg it worked
havenโt tried yet but it canโt be too hard
btw if anyone else has some gluestick residue after doing this some rubbing alcohol will get it off
Folks earlier were also saying that can weaken/break the little tabs that keep the faceplate in place, so it's probably safer to remove the faceplate by opening up the whole thing - maybe it's fine once or twice, but wanted to put that out there since the faceplate plastic is so delicate
awe damn ๐ฆ why did they make it to be so weak
Relatively cheap plastic? Seems like the same stuff they used for the Pix
Good enough for general use, though the ease of scratching isn't great. Customizing is probably not a use-case they had in mind, though!
I didnโt even see any tabs when i took it out?
I donโt think iโll keep this one long since i used a dull knife to cut it so itโs pretty shoddy but it turned out cute enough
it would look a lot cuter with pink buttons as well but i donโt have the purple Uni to swap them out sadly
It's pretty hecking cute as is!
This is a tab
I don't see many more from your pic, but it's hard to tell as they're so small, but if these wear out the faceplate will just not stay on anymore
Revised this one to make it more like the OG
It looks so good!
Thanks ๐
Love it! Just bear in mind the screen lens has the tamagitchi logo at the top, so it may cover part of your design!
Yeah I know, I'm hoping someone makes some logoless replacements eventually haha
Unfortunate for certain shell ideas tho
Someone could experiment with IPA and a lot of patience to see if it can be safely removed
I'm sure it can but I don't wanna ruin a good one haha
Yeah I don't feel like being that person myself either lol
@tardy stump problem, solution
i think that should be out of the way
excited to get my uni to test these lol
If I removed any text myself, it'd be the stuff on the back. I at least plan to put some decorative paper over the battery so you can see something other than the battery text through the shell.
Ohhh smart!!!! Now you have both version for when a logo-less lens comes about!
That's a good shout too tbh, it's a bit jarring with the translucent shell
Thereโs not actually any evidence for this happening yet
OH iโm blind
I was thinking of purpldevltchi's post: #1127693337793659031 message
I think that user removed the faceplate internally?
Unless you just meant removing in general!
Yup! That's the safest way!
Yeah definitely
I think I might make 1 more change in the future but not 100% certain
Dang I'm definitely going to need to get some polywatch, my Uni's screen/faceplate has a lot of small scuffs from just... having it on a table, and carrying it around in a little clear-vinyl coin purse inside a soft pocket in my bag
They're subtle, but still... how did they get there?
It's SO scratchable, I want to have a screen protector but it won't cover the part of the lens that isn't the screen square, so that's just going to get scratched anyway... Sigh
its fairly flat, i was tempted to cut a screen protecter using SG's faceplate svg ๐
well
Sigh indeed... maybe if someone is able to make replacement faceplates they can make it out of a harder material.
an outside screen protector
but then i didnt know if it might pull off the uni logo if i ever removed it
i remember people having that problem with the digimon VB
Really? With screen protector material?
It feels somewhat etched, so not sure what could happen
I think it's silk screened on
Damn now I want to try removing the logo to see what's left behind.....
Definitely try the back text first, it looks like it's applied with the same method
I've removed similar text on other things, and it usually leaves a bit of a shadow where the text was.
Safe and smart suggestion!
This was a test run of the faceplate I cut, so could easily run a screen protector through instead of the holo paper
Worth a shot!
i really want to remove the back text haha
same
The back has some perfect insets for custom stickers too, extra tempting
But also it'll take forever with the IPA
lining it up though
you can see i didnt do the most amazing job applying the screen protector lmao
What material did you use?
for the screen protector?
a cheap generic phone one
and my cricut joy to cut it haha
Whoa hold on what's this: https://www.amazon.com//dp/B0CC2G1D1F
The shell, not the screen protector
does that say fanmade over it
HA omg
it does
i think the screen protector seller has stolen someones image
๐
thats sad, it looks really pretty
It's a nice design!
i didnt even register the differently coloured uni omfg my brain
when you asked what it was i was just thinking
slightly expensive screen protectors??
๐
https://www.reddit.com/r/tamagotchi/comments/12jm2sy/fanmade_tamagotchi_uni_recolor/ found the source ;c
they did a really good job at that
Reading the thread it sounds like it got disqualified for some kind of competition because it was originally too real looking?
@polar ruin hello hello
Ty lol my brain donโt work so good sometimes
Is there anyway to make a cheap and reliable mold of the buttons? I love the pink uni but hate the blue buttons
I was scrolling through old messages to find inspo for my faceplate, but where can I find this guide for screen protectors?
noooooooo
Aw I got so excited for a second
On the bright side, I found this on Reddit a second ago
https://www.reddit.com/r/tamagotchi/comments/153t2fs/my_custom_uni_just_finished_it_yesterday_color/
0 votes and 1 comment so far on Reddit
Seems like Tamagotchi shells and car paints/coating really go together
We've had good luck with resin molds from Amazon, let me dig up the links (did keyboard caps, but should be the same process)
SG's template is in the gdrive too, if that helps! You can use it to cut a screen-sized template
Omg that's gorgeous
#1127693337793659031 message they sent a couple options, starting here! Not sure if they're all in the gdrive Belen just mentioned I haven't looked
I added the SVGs! Hopefully that's what people need
Good shout consolidating stuff btw! Tends to get lost in here
Actually Google drive is a bit of a jerk to me. Doesn't let me watch videos people have uploaded but they work fine for my partner
It's so hard to keep track
There's been so many good contributions that I just don't know how to make sure everybody knows
Like all the methods of removing the screw caps! That's so far up the thread
The svg files are cool cause they can be used with a cricut!
Well pngs can too i guess but I imagine an svg is more accurate
Yeah so many different methods
Yeah its for sure more accurate than my png, which I got by photoshopping a scan of the paper
I didnโt even think of that! Thank you!
Ty!!

This is what my husband used from amazon UK/EU, but hopefully it helps to have a frame of reference!
I think it does! Thank you!
God I wanna customize my uni 2 b neutral palette but Iโm so scared Iโll regret it
Like I wanna do the pink part beige, the faceplate and image like the one below, and the buttons clear with gold flakes as well as the back
as you'll be making a new shell and buttons with resin, it's worth a shot! the original parts will always be there for you to come back to
I know but if I spray paint the silicone thereโs no going back
I just feel like Tama is colourful and fun but god do I love neutral palettes
what I'm saying is you can make a new shell! just like you will make custom buttons (mold + resin)
no regrets if you just make a new one the colour that you like
I didn't know the faceplate covered the whole tama. I thought it was cut out in the center for like the screen if that makes sense? I bought a screen protector but it seems already covered? Wondering if I need it or not, heard a lot of people saying the uni was prone to scratches
it wouldnโt hurt to be safe tbh, the plastic is still pretty delicate
Ah gotcha, thanks. Yea i just noticed that difference because I was looking at my pix and my meets like wait a minute lol well thats different haha
yup! technically the "screen" itself is covered by the faceplate, so that's already protected, but the faceplate is prone to scratches so people are putting a screen protector on their screen protector (but it's warranted)
i feel so much better about not aving a screen protector, its already protected yay
oh yeah the underlying screen is very delicate, it would be a disaster for it to be exposed
Gotcha! Thanks. Better safe then sorry so I'm glad I bought a few. I went and checked the amazon reviews while I await mines and people were just saying how it came either with scratches or it got scratched very easily lol so i guess with the screen protector on the faceplate that itself won't get scratched either
honestly, i haven't found it any more or less prone to getting or coming with scratches than any of the other modern color tamas i've bought
True, I guess I can see though why others and maybe even myself wouldn't want to open something out the box with scratches on it already. Like these are supposed to be brand new not used or anything.
yea, it's a shame, and i think bandai should do better. but, i'm just not surprised when i see it, and i more or less expect it at this point
Yea but I will say its good the actual screen itself isn't going to be disturbed
I'm just gonna wait for my case and screen protectors for it to be extra safe lol
haha yea. not a bad plan
For those who printed faceplates, what kind of paper did y'all use? Can i use photo paper or should i go thinner?
I know card stock is too thick
I used regular paper, so my normal printer could handle it
It's protected by the screenlens so I wouldn't say it has to be sturdy
I'm also curious if photo paper will work because I don't have a printer but I do have access to Walmart and their instant print machines but they print on photo paper
You definitely want to use thin paper so the face plate can snap back on.
Okay, before I print the faceplates, I need help deciding how I want to arrange the pattern on this one... (Uni logo not part of the faceplate, it's just there to visualize placement)
loving 4
I just realized 1 and 4 are the same ones dfhgfa
I like 1/4. I like the balance of the patterns. I also like 2.
oooo these look great! i was also staring at 1 and 4 trying to play spot the difference cause i like this one a lot lmao
๐
I used thinner card stock. The glitter cardstock was to thick unfortunately
I did this on one of my Digimon with blue/purple color shift paint lol
This is what I want lol I hate that Bandai is apparently obsessed with this terribly soft plastic for US releases.
Has anyone with the JP model said that it has the same issue?
i just received my uni from japan! it came scratch free, but i can't tell if it's because of the packaging or if it's different material.
Mine is a JP model - they are all identical except for the packaging
Stupid question but when printing the face plate cut out how do I make sure itโs to scale lol ( cross posted )
What program are you using to print? I know word and adobe photoshop + illustrator have rulers you can use!
The template in the gdrive folder has a 2x2cm calibration square, so you can do a test print to figure it out from there
There is also an A4 template which should be already to size when printing on A4
Ok another question: should only this area ( highlighted in yellow ) be 2cm X 2cm, or should this whole area ( highlighted in yellow and coral ) be 2cm X 2cm
Like which one is the full screen
The inner square of the template is the calibration square
Yellow is calibration square
Yellow and coral is whole screen
Iโm so confused Iโve never done anything like this before
So I just need to make sure the yellow square is 2 X 2 and Iโm good?
Yup!
Ok, thank u for answering my questions I promise Iโm not dumb just sometimes struggle with new things!
No worries!! I hope your printing goes well
this is so cute aaaaaaaaaaa
Omg
I love this shell, this would look so good with the pink uni
It does!
Tamagotchi Plus x Uni collection
Never been so tempted to swap the faceplate ๐ญ this would be so good with the purple's backplate too
I'd be keen to see the results! I haven't tried any of them yet since mine is still enroute
Ahh! I need to calibrate my big cricut and see if I could get it to work with print and cut haha
I made some stickers at one point but it wasn't amazingly accurate, it was a few mm out :( although it was winter and fairly dim in the living room
I'm still unsure whether I wanna change the faceplate, I do like the original but I keep getting tempted!
Wow, those screw caps really are a pain to remove
....the flathead screwdriver I have of the proper size is uh. Well it's an old cheap screwdriver so the metal part does not stick in the handle. It just kinda turns inside the thing
It probably wouldn't do that if the screws weren't in so tight
Late to this but can you link her account, I couldnโt find it
Thank you!
Little tiny bit firm twists, just enough to shake the screw loose. Like jolty?
Managed to remove the screws! Turns out my brother has a better screwdriver set.
And yeah, was trying to do that but with the screwdriver in question, it just ends up like uhh.. well the screwdriver turns loosely in its handle like an axle
I swapped parts to make her more pink. @crimson dagger

dude is the fucking best
now I just gotta wait till it comes to Australia from the US lol
wow this person on reddit painted their shell and buttons with just a posca pen! looks like it worked surprisingly well https://www.reddit.com/r/tamagotchi/comments/1549y8e/here_is_my_custom_uni/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1
IT IS DONE
They are beautiful!
So cool omg!!!!
they look so good omggg
Yeah that's exactly what i wanted to hear as i'm planning on using posca as well
My Japanese purple came scratched out of the box and seems more prone to scratching. The US pink was fine and less prone. So I have no idea since thatโs the opposite of what Iโve been hearing. The logo and back info prints are different textures/qualities too. Could be a multiple factory thing. Theyโre also not identical on the back. The item number above the batch code matches the US Item number for that one, but the JP back has a number in a completely different format that I canโt even find on the Japanese box.

Looks so good with the swapped shell
I love these Plus shells ๐ (Also, I know the wiki says "Pink Ale" for upper right design, but it's actually a mistranslation of "Pink Yell"! The little guys are cheerleaders!)
I ordered two as well, just waiting on the mail :/
Anyone know if a Cricut cut has been tested yet?
IIRC somebody did something Cricut-related a few days ago
i want to do this so bad but can't convince myself to buy another one ๐ญ
Oh I love the blues on this!
Solution: find a friend to swap the colors with maybe
Or sell the color-swapped one that you don't want
Tbf I would be happy to buy a color swapped one for retail if I had the money ๐ญ
Pretty sure there are others out there who would do the same since both the purple and pink look better that way
i have a friend with the pink one but she lives across the country ๐ฅฒ
@supple kettle did!
She used the svg in the gdrive I think...?
Would anyone be willing to make the purple magic meets/on design for the uni? Same with pink fairy?
If you give me like 20 mins to pull some high res images and try to adapt them, Iโll do my best!
Crying thank you!!!!
No prob!!! Also in trying to look to the designs for this I discovered pink fairy armadillos are a thing??? So now my day is even more exciting than before
Do you want the words on it too (like under the screen where it says tamagotchi/tamagotchi meets)
No thanks
thank goodness, I think thatโd be the hardest part
Hello yes that was me :D but I'm actually a complete noob with cricut, I just used SGs SVGs that I believe belen put in the gdrive (it's pinned)
Actually @glacial heron, if this makes sense and you're better at cricut design space than me I have a question.
There's a 2cmx2cm guide inset into the screen area of the svg file.
Do you know a way to resize the guide to 2cm at the same time as keeping the rest of the template in scale? I hope I worded that okay
When I did it, I just selected the whole lot, made it a little smaller, clicked the guide to see how close I'd gotten, rinse and repeat ๐
So just to confirm: you wanted to scale the whole image, but using the 2cm as the guide, right?
Yeah
I tried attaching them and grouping them but it didn't help
When I resized the square to 2cm by typing it in, it only resized the square and not the rest
Lemme download the SVG and try it
I think I tried to weld them too but yeah that wasn't the way
Thanks โค๏ธ no rush
I've not used cricut design space further than making a couple sticker sheets and making some cards from templates with the joy
Nah Iโm working on all this stuff anyways, nowโs a great time for me to check this
Thankyouu c:
The svg is good though! I also hid the outside cut and made the screen area a little smaller to cut some screen protectors
Iโd love to see the uni faceplate dimensions. Not just the 2cm by 2cm
Actually I might have made the screen protector square assuming I'd stuffed it up somewhere, it wasn't quite 1:1 square
I bet it will!
Check the pinned gdrive and have a root around, there's a couple templates
I did request @ trynket to make one
Yeah sorry I kinda sidetracked her with the cricut question
Lol no worries. The hardest part for me will be getting a hold of a colour printer lol
Nah, Iโm multitasking
because if I can scale this properly, it saves me time adjusting the template later to check on my work for Lee
Again, thank you
No problem!!!
Please ping me when itโs done. Iโm doing some stuff rn
๐
The bad news: I may have to recreate the fairy rather than use a picture and superimpose it because I canโt seem to find any images of the insert without the cover to use as a reference for an alternate version (or any version that Iโm satisfied with tbh).
The good news: looks like the magics are all the same insert pattern, just in different colors and I own the teal Magic, so I will likely disassemble mine and reference it (or just pop off the faceplate because it looks like thereโs dust under it soโฆ)
Thank you for putting in so much work. Honestly, I mainly just want the magic and I thought people would want the fair so thatโs why I ask for that one too
theyโre just soโฆ wow
Didnโt someone post a way to mod the uni so the sound is dampened? Does anyone remember how to do it or where I can find that info again?
Is there a way to create a silicon case for the Uni? ๐
I got the caps off. And Iโm never putting them back on
i know people were putting a couple of layers of washi tape on the speaker, thatโs the only method i saw
how did you get them off? its so hard ๐ญ
See this list!
So far we've had:
- hot glue
- 3M command tape
- Sharp tweezers (in teardown vid)
- needle with pliers
:D
Oh wait- would anyone be interested if I released a template that included the grid and some borders/other pattern stuff? It'll all be with the general template in a layered psd so people can open and draw on it in programs that can't open the other file types.
I used/broke 5 needles and some pliers
I feel so glad I wear glasses cause a needle hit my glasses when it broke off
I choose to believe the mimitchi gods were with me
why were screw caps even invented ๐ญ ๐
To stop kids like me
cri
By โkids like meanโ I mean kids who get too curious about the insides of toys and break them by taking them apart
This is the part where I realise I donโt have an exacto knife or a way to get one
Ughhh I really wish I got the pink one instead
I kinda wish I got purple since the vaporware customs look so neat
Also the blue buttons bother me ๐ฅ
Lol read
Trade
The pink goes with more stuff. The purple is a weird purple
Iโm trying to make a purple the exact purple as the purple shell but I donโt know how to do that
Oh interesting, I guess that makes sense haha
I thought it was because it looked like the color of wine
How do I cut out my faceplate without an exacto knife?
I'm going to try to make a design that matches the blue, so that the whole thing is blue + pink instead of blue + pink + green + a different blue
Sharp scissors, slowly and carefully.
Thanks
how'e you do it :O
Canโt wait to colour print this puppy
Scissors
woah
i think i have to just wait and order one when more people start selling custom ones using a cricut bfndnd
i don't have the motor skill to cut those out
but eventually my uni will be cute >:3
Iโd love to just commission someone so I can get that nice clean cut and not have it be made from printer paper
1: which country are you in? 2: definitely unfinished, but progress is happening. (Since mine is the wrong color and the sizes are so different I have to recreate rather than trace.)
