Good news! Just finished disassembling my tama, and took vids! I replaced the faceplates and exchanged buttons with my husband to make a full pink tama and a blue+purple one.
I've also made some templates if you want to make your own custom faceplate, that and the vids are in this drive folder (no energy for an edited yt vid sorry!!)

for the faceplate design, where does the design need to go up to? the inner or outer square?

so the inner square is for you to check dimensions, it should be 2cmx2cm

the design you see after cutting is between the squiggly line and the outer square

the A4 template is already sized for A4 printing, so you can use that if you don't want to mess with anything

(it's how we've printed, but wanted to be mindful of other printing formats like US letter)

re the bottom right photo - the purple plastic is floating above the board, apparently despite the gravity of how you're holding it. Is it fixed into place with something? Is there a safe way to remove the screen assembly from the main board without breaking it?

the screen has a ribbon cable which holds both halves of the electronics "sandwich" together (+ the speaker), I didn't test disconnecting it however

speaker electronics are soldered in tho, so tread with caution

ah dang, tbh these screws aren't super high quality... my top tip is to always press down with more force than the turning force, otherwise it's super easy for the screwdriver to slip a lot (I've ruined many screws in my day)

I’m so annoyed. The screwdriver I have for my tamas has been fine for all of the others but for the uni it just doesn’t seem like it’s going to work. I’m really struggling to get the rest of the screw caps out. The first three came out so easily and now they just don’t want to budge. And I do not have the patience or the fine motor skills for this. Why couldn’t Bandai just get the damn designs right so I didn’t have to mess with it omg

If the faceplate is just clipped on the sides you shouldn't need to take the entire device apart to get it out tbh

You need to take it apart to pop it out of the front half of the shell, I don't recommend removing the faceplate via the tabs as they are extremely soft and flimsy

The person running the blog also thought their Digimon was fully evolved because they had Agumon and was surprised later on when they evolved to Numemon. They thought Agumon laid an egg and was finished with his lifecycle.

They asked me how to hatch their Digimon's baby. I explained, "Press C to go to the other screen, and then press A+C to hatch your second Digimon."

I was very, very annoyed that Bandai sent them the first Digimon 20th in the US because they were very much not fans of the V-Pet before receiving it and had no idea what they were doing with it.

I can confirm the uni scratches extremely easily. My dog touched it with his paw pads (not even his nails) and it now has scratches I can see with the screen on.

Care mistakes = about 2 care mistakes where had to give medicine kept this one a bit hungry and a bit unhappy the whole time

For all intents and purposes traditional gender still exists on the Uni and enforces who you can marry. Starting with the Smart they've been a little bit less transparent about it - they don't show the gender symbols on the stats screens, and iirc the Smart guide book refers to characters who evolve from ["A" baby] and characters who evolve from ["B" baby] rather than referring to boy/girl

Unimaru's a bit of an unknown right now - 21 adults is a strange number, and the english bio uses they/them like you said. It could always just be english localization taking creative liberties, but can't really say for certain at this point

while you have to be careful, we've never harmed/reset our tamas during the disassembling process. Even if you happen to short the reset button, you can retrieve the data instead of starting a new egg (like removing the battery of the connection)

Flashy animations and everything is fun, of course. But poor battery life with a bad audio quality is pretty rough!

No. The uni is an upgraded smart

I explained I liked some of the features of the smart but it has so many issues I wouldn't recommend it over the uni. Uni has been really fun so far and the online isn't even up yet

The fact the babies don’t get tinted based on egg color means it’s not as explicitly communicated that egg color matters to growth - it could still be true but it’s less user friendly

To minimise the chances of fulfilling alternative evo conditions, cereal, whatever default snack(s) there are and the games would be optimal for experimentation

Unexciting and very tantalising, but optimal nonetheless

It depends on the person who is after the information! Considering how active this has been there's a lot of interest in the uni and it's a pretty expensive tama (esp overseas), so information can help people decide if it's right for them to buy and they'll enjoy it

It's £70 in the UK, which is around $90, to put it in perspective
