I am on a 2 week streak so far of not buying Tamas/vpets or accessories I'm quite proud of myself

I'm pretty satisfied with what I currently own and my new goal is to raise multiple generations on all of them

That was my thought when I bought the kei-tama/en-tama cards by themselves (which I definitely don't regret getting those when they were available)

I was going to use cheap surface shipping for my order, but instead I paid extra for fast shipping on the condition that I stopped adding to it. I definitely saved myself money by doing that!

Those cards were my first proxy order! I added some fun stuff though, i most focused on getting cheap tama accessories I've never seen for sale here. I didnt let myself buy anything that I thought I'd be able to buy on ebay over here

They were my second, but when I put the order in I was thinking should I get anything else to make the shipping worth it? But as I was browsing around I realized I would just be adding something just to be adding it which actually would cost me more so I stopped myself

Yeah I try to make sure I only buy stuff I know I want to keep around, because I get stressed out having a bunch of stuff I don't want

I keep record of all my tama purchases, and from my last proxy order I paid £5 per item for shipping and fees. That's actually a pretty standard shipping price for if I bought them all individually over here, and the prices were so much lower

So yeah not trying to encourage unnecessary spending 😅 more like, if you're gonna spend, you can still keep to a low budget!

i strongly advise not opening a proxy order unless it’s for items you already budgeted for. its too risky to go down a spending hole. but that’s just my opinion

Part of the reason for no-buy, at least for me, is so that I can save up and be ready to grab my ISOs when they come up! If you've been looking for a while, it's fair to grab something you want, especially if it doesn't come up often

apartment update…after encouragement from my bf and mom, i decided to apply for the expensive apartment i mentioned a little while ago. and i was accepted! it feels wrong to spend so much on rent, but the place looks beautiful and i always dreamed of living in a cute downtown loft. i know i don’t deserve it, but i can afford it along with bills, making donations, and savings

it’s literally blocks from the cathedral and where i’ll work, and it feels amazing to have this stress lifted 😭

So I was browsing through amazon, like a fool, and found out that the plastic gotcha balls might be large enough to fit p1/p2 tamas. And they have metal dispensers for around $200 (the cheaper ones). Learning about how proxies work is a slippery slope 😅 when it arrives at the warehouse you'll get a better idea of shipping costs, it might be that there's a cheap shipping option you can use to save money if you want

I teach kiddos on Saturdays for polymer clay and like 75% of my time is spent just mixing colors for them lol

Painting on charms works!

I've had some success with using chalk pastels as powdered pigments both before and after baking

We've also learned the somewhat painful way that small amounts of alcohol inks or water based marker will do ok at dyeing clay certain colors (have to let dry some before mixing, will stain hands)

Can also mix chalk pastels in, that works okay at dyeing it

If you've got fine glitter, the temp polymer clay bakes at is low enough to not burn it, so you can use that as well

I think there was an acrylic paint plus unbaked polymer clay test on yt, I can try to find that

Okay so that's just plain not recommended b.c the results will streak lol, but markers like sharpies and water based will be okay, just let them dry a bit before mixing so the solvents don't mess with the integrity of the clay

A thing I used to do is stick old dried out crayola marker guts in jars with rubbing alcohol to make homemade alcohol inks I actually still have and use them from time to time, they work pretty okay. If you have dried out sharpies from storing them cap up, likely they'll also work good for that purpose

Just keep in mind that when using markers to dye the clay, it will wind up lighter than the marker color, also don't press sharpies and other alcohol based markers into the clay b.c alcohol acts as a pretty good solvent for it and you might gunk up the marker short term if you get too aggressive with the coloring
