The V5 is pretty chill. If you don't have time to play games for happiness, there are items you can get to increase up to 3 hearts. They will eventually turn into a sumo family if you don't keep their hidden weight down. But there is a food and an item that can return them to normal. Lemme know if you need the link to the passwords for it.

yeah the items are different unfortunately (well, it's cool they're different, but you gotta grind to get em all)

also...maybe i'm dumb? but like with 90% of the items, the tamas just sit next to it, balk for a moment, then look happy? like they dont actually use the item

i tried with toddlers, teens, adults, and different family types (blended on the v5, blended and sociable and athletic on 5.5)

Yeah, with many they don't physically use them. It's annoying, but at least they raise happiness, whereas the other older English connections don't get any happiness from using items.

I also wish the screens didn't yellow. I was so annoyed when I went to change the foil thinking that was causing the yellowing, only to. Discover its the screen itself.

There had to be a change because of the square to rectangular living space for the Tamas, but it's like they went with a shitty manufacturer instead of who they used for their other screens. I don't have a V6, but I assume they improved it for that because I don't hear the same complaints for them.

The Tamas are so cute. I just wish I could see them better! It also makes playing the tea game very challenging if not in bright light.

The V6 screen is easier to see! It's a different screen, it's 1 pixel taller/shorter (can't remember which way round it goes)

But the buttons are so unresponsive

My friend just started up a v6 and said her buttons were quite unresponsive. She's going to try opening and cleaning it if she can work up the nerve. She's never opened a tama before and is scared. Have you tried cleaning your contacts?

Yup I've cleaned contacts on the connections before! But even after cleaning, the V6 is known for having really bad responsiveness. I wonder if its software related, since the V6 has so much content

i had no idea overfeeding regular food would make them fat, i assumed only snacks would! the v5 and 5.5 don't have a punishment for too many snacks i don't think

and yeah they're technically special characters. the only way to change the parents is to turn the family into another special character set (petite or ninja)

I never bother with snacks because I have enough 3 heart items. I ALWAYS end up with them being fat regardless. It's annoying.

Like @hidden thicket, I fiddle with the angle to reduce glare. I usually have to take a couple of pics to get it to show. I also keep mine at 3 bars for contrast. It's a shame the contrast feature is pretty useless. I keep talking myself out of buying another with a less yellow screen, but I'll likely do it if I can find one at a reasonable price.

I'm so jealous every time I see yours. Your screen looks soooo nice and clear compared to mine. I thought mine was yellow from the background foil, but I went to change it to a custom one and discovered its the screen itself that's yellowed, not the paper. 😭😭😭The yellow screen made it impossible to use my custom background.

The screen itself, unfortunately. The background foil is bright and clear still. Here's a picture from when I discovered it was the screen itself.

It's only the V5 it happens to. Seems they corrected the screen for the V6 (although the V6 has button problems, so I hear.).

It's a fine line between yellow and being able to see the tama sprites. If it wasn't such a faint screen, but it needs very light backgrounds to be able to see the sprites. My custom backgrounds were too dark, even though they had been made low contrast.

I remember taking apart an iD and thinking the scratch all the way down the screen was on the plastic outside. I took it apart, looked at it and someone else had obviously scratched, then reassembled this tamagotchi too! The screen itself was damaged so that was unfortunate.

Yours doesn't look yellowed to me. As long as you have some precision screw drivers, taking it apart to clean is easy. I open and clean every connection tama I get second hand. You'd be surprised how nasty they can get around the buttons. 🤢

My V5 was an absolute mess when i got it, there's a snapped screw and everything. I put a post-it note so that the screen makes contact, but I've vowed to never open it again unless absolutely necessary

I feel you on the screw. Had to destroy a screw to open mine. I snapped the head off. I left the post in the tama because it holds the board pretty well without the screw head. Was such a pain to deal with. But yours definitely sounds more precarious than mine.

My bonding is at 90%. Gonna try to marry Sukatchi when I reach 100%. I hope the matchmaker brings him.

Got Sukatchi on my 1st round, but somehow managed to cancel instead of marry. Half an hour of setting the time to 6:59am, and I finally got him as a match again and didn't fuck it up the 2nd time. So now we have our Violet family. Yay!

Training sessions do the most. Two training sessions increase it 10%. I don't know how much winning games increases it. I'm ok at the shoe matching game, but not great at it. There are a few items that increase bonding by 0.3%. I use those throughout the day here and there.

2 screws on the board are snapped, so I can't put new screws in their place. I have a post it note inside but there's a few lines of missing pixels, and the top icons dont consistently light up. Still, the shell is looking much nicer and my family are going strong!

as long as you catch the activity calls (when they beep and a little icon bubble displays over their heads), that's the best way to increase bonding! it's not too hard to get to around 70% in the teen stage just by doing those. but otherwise yes, you sadly need to buy the items that increase bonds. however, the games are fairly easy to beat and you get $700 for a perfect score

there's only one pure family on the 5.5, the royal family. which you get by marrying one of the prince/princess characters to their corresponding princess/prince

also, i know the 5.5 codes existed at some point, but the image has 404'd. if anyone can get in touch with binary from tamatown forum, he might still have them

For my next custom connection, I didn't try to paint the antenna and I think it worked out better! But considering it was my first, I'm happy with it! It brings out the best features of the tama (yellow buttons and kuchi charm) and hides the parts i don't like

How do I stop getting blended families? I got the Mametchi family once but I’m not even sure how. This is my 3rd generation.

A blended family usually means you married two characters from a different family, or subcategories of the same families off (unless it's space family, where you have to marry off 2 v5s from a different region, e.g EU and JPN, or marrying to planetchi on the dating show on the EU/NA version), also you need to have 100% bonding and either marry a kuchipatchi, memetchi, Violetchi or mametchi with their different gendered counterparts, Yonepatchi, Mumutchi, Sukatchi or Chantotchi

you'll know when you get two eggs instead of 3.

I used the codes for the items I wanted the most. I play the games a couple of times a day, but usually it's the bonding ones. The codes make gotchi unnecessary, so I don't worry about it much, especially since items increase happiness and weight isn't an issue (although overfeeding is).

Middle is the main you play games with, but you have the choice to marry any of your babies when the time comes. After 72 hours as adults, you can go to the dating channel. Be patient about pressing buttons, because the choice screens are slow and it's easy to pick the wrong character. Once you select your character, the matchmaker will present an option for you to marry or reject. You have 3 dating channel uses per day. If you don't get the character you want to marry, you can reset the time to 6:59 am and wait for them to wake. You'll have 3 more chances. Repeat until you get the character you want, or alternately, you can just wait for the next day if you don't feel like messing with the time.

it’s because you married sunnytchi :D such a marriage always results in the space family. to get a pure family, bonding must be 100% and you have to marry within the same family group (eg a kuchi male to a kuchi female)

For my pure family challenge I'm doing with some friends, I drew the Kuchipa family (there are 4 of us in the challenge, so we're each doing one of the 4 families), and I've never grown them before, so I'm very much looking forward to it.

Mental health is still in the shitter and likely will be until after my birthday (I hate my birthday), but I'm glad to have the desire to use my v5 again. Somehow I'm running more vpets than I was before my mental health pause. Whoops!

the v5 is pretty easy and forgiving, but guides are useful if you want specific characters! just don't feed them too many MEALS or they'll turn into the sumo/fat family (snacks are ok). and if you let the hunger hearts drop too much/too often they'll turn into the petite family. if you leave them unhappy for too long they'll turn into ninjas. but it does take a fair amount of neglect for those to happen

there are ways to reverse those effects btw but only your current gen will change back, not the parents (irrelevant in gen 1, they all turn back to normal in that case)

it's perfectly fine to feed them to 5 full hearts! just not a lot beyond that. sorry for worrying you. using the magnifying glass item will restore them to normal. there's also a food item that can do it, and you can find the codes online for those things (sorry i don't have the codes on hand)

Yesterday I found a deal I couldn't pass up on a celebrity. Found a royal rose for $100. It'll need a bit of work (cleanup and fix a broken C button), but I like to fix stuff up. Other than a slight sunburn and some scuffs on the screen, the shell looks near perfect from the pics I've seen. I'm excited to get it and get to work!

It's in worse condition than I expected. For the price, I shouldn't be surprised. It was so fucking grody when it got here. I opened it, cleaned it up, and fixed the broken C button. It still needs a lot of work, but with the pearl coating, I'm not sure how I want to proceed. I'm happy to have a celebrity and happy to not have paid with a kidney, but I still wish the shell was in better shape.
