Now in events 2.0, when an event ends you carry over any tokens under 7500. Great. But if you have more than 7500 event tokens, you are forced to buy chests, or chests are randomly purchased for you if you don't select them. Why force the random conversion to event chests? If I finish an event with event tokens left over, I'd really rather use them towards full epic in the next event. This doesn't seem like it would affect balancing in any way, you already get to carry over as many bounty contracts as you want, and you're already carrying over a number of tokens, so this feels very arbitrary. Being forced to burn currency & take chests you don't need just doesn't feel good.

Or much better:
- tokens do not auto-convert as suggested above
- and all chests drop tokens (instead of contracts)
OR you just don't open so many bounty contracts if you don't intend on spending all those tokens in the event 🤷♂️
Just opening those bounty contracts takes hours every event, that is so boring stupid and useless work. Why just chest drop tokens and you spend as many as you want instead of all you have? What's the point of contracts if you just can decide how many tokens you can spend and not forced to spend them all?!
The current system was to prevent players hoarding event tokens if I remember the developer insights. It's not a very effective way because you can just hoard the bounty contacts instead. Then when you see a champion you want in the current event you can burn all the contracts you need to get as many tokens as it takes to full epic them and start building their item levels immediately.
Devs don't want players to stockpile tokens between events. You couldn't do it in events 1.0 and you still can't do it now.
My issue was that due to real life scheduling I used bounty contracts and bought gold chests early on because I knew I wouldn't be able to play as much toward the end of the event. Then I accumulated tokens, which would've been nice to carry over as tokens. Otherwise, they were just in place of bounty contracts that got force-converted.
They've never had an issue with carrying any amount of bounty contracts, tokens are just bounty contracts converted. You may be right, it may be as simple as "the devs don't want the game to be played this way", but I felt it doesn't hurt to make the ask.
This would have unintended consequences for Vin Ursa
I can understand why they wouldn't want people to hoard tokens, but I can think of a lot of reasons you have a bunch left at the end of the event. For example, in my case, a relative had a medical emergency & I was too busy to worry about the game.
As VividVoid said, since you can keep contracts, it's really easy to circumvent. Personally, I would like them to make the mandatory conversion rate higher than it is, if not get rid of it. At the very least, you should be able to pick which champs chests you get though.

I haven't tested it either but what has been publicized is that it will buy a chest pack for every champion unlocked until you have less possible packs then champs then it goes to RNG
