The only thing that makes me think exotics should be in the power slot is that power weapons do way more damage .

it entirely depends on what other legendary weapons you have

but exotic primaries are mainly used for either addclear, or some sort of build synergy

Exotic power weapons don’t inherently do more damage than legendary ones do

For example, apex predator probably has higher dps and total damage than most exotic rockets

exotic heavies are usually used for dps support, like Gally and tractor

some others have their unique use cases or in specific encounters, like Worm on Atraks, xeno for oracles/atheon, wardcliff for ST final boss

In that case, what's the benefit for having an exotic energy weapon?

I know the benefits to run vexcalibur, and do so often, but outside of that, Im unfamiliar with the bonuses and benefits

they kinda ride the same boat with the heavies, as they usually have their use cases, but they are more free, since they are only special weapons

izzi is used for swap rotation dps, arbalest is one of if not the best anti barrier weapon, witherhoard is decent for spawn control with the blights

then there is no real benefits that put one above the other, usually its just whatever fits your build

There are primary ammo (infinite) and special ammo (limited) in both slots
