but i dont want to start lightfall story becaue i dont want the story mode spoiled before i finish the legacy pack DLCs

Most good guns drop from raids, 6 player activities that are usually difficult for beginners but will get super easy once you learn them
lets say many, not most.
Also there is some guns that are able to be crafted. To craft a gun you need 5 copies of the same gun but with a red border. those are patterns,
if you get 5 patterns you will be able to craft them with whatever perks you want
Exotic primaries like Osteo Striga, Graviton Lance, Riskrunner, Sunshot, Trinity Ghoul and others are also great

how do you get these? and i never seen a gun with 5 pattersn or been able to have 5 copies of a weapon because it always fills up my inventory
and raids i cant ever find any matches or i dont know where to look for players

A good place to start is the dungeon weapons and exotic mission weapons. Duality has some great weapons in it, the SMG is one of my daily go to weapons

it'll break down things into a way more digestible format vs what the game will tell you (or just flat out doesn't tell you)

learn the basic layout of locations, activities and other stuff. Once you get a basic understanding of Destiny try to put effort into learning what perks are good on guns

Destiny is also a game that sadly relies on External apps. DIM (destiny item manager) lets you transfer guns from your vault in the tower -> to your character or from char to char

when should i dismantle weapons and gear?
if their 50 power lvls below me or what
like i have the quicksilver rifle but i dont like it should i discard it
same with the old sterling rilfe

you can raise the power level of any gear so that isnt a reason to dismantle, dismantle anything you know you wont ever use again
exotic weapons you can always pull from collections again if you want to try them again so thats fine
but since most legendary weapons and all armors come with random rolls its difficult to get them back again so think about those more before dismantling
