Only jumpscares are when you get the psycosis debuff which is when you get poisoned too many times. you can get rid of it by finding antidotes on maps which are easy to find.

If you do get into the lore itself theres a lot of connections to outlast 1 and 2 which i found interesting along with the character lore.
