Saw a lot of small brain conspiracy theories lately, so here's a Big Brain conspiracy theory of mine: Root of Nightmares was made so easy specifically to be the butt of the joke that D1 Crotas End was so that when Crotas End returned it could hit twice as hard.

Whole point of edge of fate was to create grind without investing in content creation, repackaged old stuff into portal ops, levelling used to be so much slower after edge of fate launch, with last 50 levels could only be attained with prime engrams (1 in 15 runs)

I don't think portal is bad but I see it as more of quick play playlist. The crazy number of runs required to level up to 400 (when you could get T4 gear) turned most players off portal. I haven't played caldera or K1 since ash and iron launch

Vanguard alerts are possibly the best and easiest source of loot now. Also, both solo ops and fireteam ops quickplay have been updated to provide upto T5 gear, without the forced power delta

finding collectables for hidden rewards, if you want them, there's 2 or 3 exotic quests for most expansions you cant do until you beat the story. subclasses for 2 of them, for Renegades you get Lawless Frontier and a Dungeon after the story

the story is mostly only told through your immediate perspective as The Guardian, so some collectables provide additional lore we aren't a part of

game world happens with or without you

Beyond Light will help you pick up the gunplay and unlock Stasis. Then Witch Queen will be a great story and a good challenge if you're up for it. Lightfall will get you strand, and Final Shape will be a great final test for you alongside a very good story.
