Easiest way to tell would be to pull some non-legendary/exotic armor to drop your grenade stat way down low, then see damage and then put on high grenade armor to see if the damage changes in firing range.

Destiny does have good mechanics and gameplay that you can’t find elsewhere, especially in a comprehensive fps title which makes it enticing to come back repeatedly
