The main source of tiered gear is portal - you unlock t2 gear at 200, 3 at 300, 4 at 400, and 5 (crucible only) at 450

You also have a small chance of a prime drop after each completion that will be 1 tier higher than your completion reward

i used to go to saint with like 30 trials engrams, and focus only the gun i want with each one, and not get my roll. With the new system, ive had less than 10 chances at my roll, over the equivalent of 5 trials rank resets

0-200 is t1, 200-300 is t2 with high grades, t3 300-400, and t4 is 400+

its a lengthy process to get the higher tiers, but it will happen
