You can farm exotic engrams, to get new exotic armor you either get them from rahool (any exotic) or from the vex strike force event on neomuna (any exotic that came out before TFS)

Since it's a very old exotic he should be able to get it by just opening engrams without focusing them

Exotic engrams go on a knockout system where they priorize giving you exotics you don't have as long as they're from year 1 of the game
