if you stood like 7 benches away from him, hed always do his leap attack which is the easiest of his moves to parry and you could spam that to basically skip phase 1

i just brute force Sully, i'm weird apparently, because i've never had problems fighting him

that felt like cheating to me so i just stood next to him and parried every attack when i could for phase 1
