They stated that any spendings on the game will be solely for cosmetics. Anything else ( like specialists ) can be acquired by playing the game

Honestly I love the way they are bringing this specialist thing into battlefield. Just having a certain specialist that can do a job better than another is really nice to have under a class.

It just makes you take a minute to think about the situation you are in and which SPECIALIST would be more suited for that situation ( an example would be if you needed to pick a defensive or an offensive engineer )

Without actually having to change everything in your loadout to suit that situation and the thing with traits and specialities just adds more fun and more things to think about when playing a certain specialist.

I personally love it but once again that is all in theory we haven't seen how this will go in game so we will just have to wait to see it in practice

basically this is how specialists work :

you've got your 4 main classes - assault, engineer, support, and recon

each class has 3-4 (and more coming) subclasses alongside generic soldiers

these subclasses have different rolls, i.e one assault has a healing grenade, while the other has a syringe pistol for quicker revives
then you have normal assaults with defibrillators and generic loadouts

also the dev says "customization will be so insane you won't even notice" if there's 20 of the same specialist running around

so basically specialists are BF4's Upgrade system, but replaced with actual characters
