Are you guys actually 100% sure that you need the recipient to be a legal entity or be registered as self employed? I can't see why, the tax liability on the bounty income lies with the individual not yourselves, you're merely paying someone for a service.
Still here
I was ranting about this in offtopic but I will raise it here briefly, why not approach current content creators that are active within the community that have already written a multitude of resources, pay them for the rights to distribute/publish/host what not rather than writing the millionth tutorial out there. Is the quality of what is available that unentertaining and bad, cant a concession be made there. There are so many resources why cant those be utilized.
It is a fair point @tall path , and there is nothing to stop those creators putting forward their tutorials /samples for consideration for the bounty. Nothing in there states it must be original work, only that it meets our standards for publishing on the MonoGame site.
We have already talked to some creators and there are talks to do that, but the bounties give equal opportunity to all developers/content creators to help directly support monogame
I too, am one of those creators, and keeping it all upto date is exhausting π
From my discussion in off-topic it seems there is still a need for a full start to finish onboarding tutorial, and most of what is currently out there is commercially driven / proprietary, in the spirit of FOSS I however propose and have started an initiative to fulfil the requirement for the bounty job collaboratively, while waiving the bounty fee and rights to distribute/ownership etc.
I will be checking out that discussion imminently for reference π
As to the bounty fee, I've stated previously to others who are more than happy to do the work for free, is that we hold no limitation on what is done with the funds given, either keep it, donate it to other creators or even straight back into monogame
But, as a non-profit, the Foundation HAS to spend and show use of the donations made in a sustainable way, else we end up getting taxed on the money we hold. And we cannot just give it away either.
Noted, could vow to donate back after receiving, donating to a non-profit is deductible anyway I reckon, otherwise the taxable portion would constitute a partial donation on my end.
Yup, tax is hard. And your vow would be to the public, not the Foundation π
Naturally to the contributors only π
I would but apparently the foundation needs to clear these sums off their books to avoid taxation.
We can donate to the orangutan foundation
