IIRC thatās actually true. The original idea was that Classic Sonic was a Phantom Ruby illusion made by Tails. When Mania was greenlit, Sega forced the two to be connected because they thought Mania was going to be a flop so it became the actual Classic Sonic.
They still wrote his goodbye like a death scene, and all adding Classic Sonic did was put in so many nonsensical retcons that Sega has gone back and forth on.

I love that the Devil Doom boss fight finally resolves once and for all if Shadow is the original or an android copy....but only if you wait over 8 minutes.
Devil Doom is kind of a whatever final boss. I remember getting rings was more annoying then anything else and Chaos Control doesn't really help out.

It feels like a Halo situation where it's obivious Paramount didn't want to give the show a huge budget, so the writers have to find excuses to write out the expensive CGI characters to focus on the human charactes
Knuckles is actually a major character in the first half, but by the second half, it's pretty much The Wade Show
I will say most of the jokes and humor are actually hilarious, except for Wade's sister, who is terrible.
The villains are pretty throw away, especially Rory McCann's character, who despite what you may think, is not a surprise reveal character. He's not a Sonic character or anything.
Christopher Lloyd was hilarious in the few scenes he's in as Pachacamac.
So overall it's alright. Just kind of mid overall.
For some baffling reason, the Sonic game that gets the most direct references is ||Sonic 06.||
