#General Mario Lore

A civil war resulting in the nation splitting into two
The green beans and the baked beans
it's just sitting dormant... possibly forever--- or maybe someday it'll return
true but there is some wiggle room
well imo it's not really "all over the place"
at least for the most part.
I think the only things to really go crazy are like SPM (lots of really important world lore) and Yoshi's Island DS (really stupid, poorly thought out lore).
Usually the lore is pretty grounded (because stories are simple and self-contained)
Mario likes the chippy, eats haggis, wears kilts, plays bagpipes and gets on it every Friday night
Mario's body temperature is at a constant absolute zero.
This temperatue was caused due to extremly resistant cooling systems located in the skin.
A side effect of this is Mario attracting all nearby forms of poisonings into his skin, and cancelling
them all out. This is why the Castle Waters are so clear, and that's how not a single person on the
moon got starch poisoning. Most of the poisons cancel each other out, and the few that aren't,
are oblitirated by Mario's mysterious immumity system. Not much is known about it, other that it
runs on extremly condensed gravity fields with range that just barely reaches Mario's muscles.
The ability to resist even the most schorching of heat gives some unique properties to the plumber.
This includes his shoes melting and molding back into the body upon contact with water in all 3 states,
imediate almost physic defying rebound upon contact with hot molten objects and points of heat,
extreme administrations of pain upon making contact with sharp objects at a high velocity,
conjuring new substances into the world (glohm, darkmess, supamerge, dark, you name it),
alteration of the nearby light beams changing the perspective of the world, and under rare conditions,
invisibility. The isolation system is made out of a matter yet to be named, that has it's normal temperature
just slightly above absolute zero, but due to prolonged inactivity, eventualy, atoms stopped moving,
resulting in absolute zero, that suprisingly, made this temperature irreversable.
This is why mario does not feel cold in cold worlds and thirsty/hot in hot worlds.
The fuck
as much of a shitpost as this looks like, this is probably as logical of an explenation we can get surounding mario not following physics
Mario Pinball Land is one of the franchise's strangest games. Stranger still is its desert world boss--the Egyptian Koopa. Or is it King Tut? Or Tutankoopa?

He does tho
He can stand still in the platformers in the middle of some freezing water and not budge
For the 3d games he finaly develops sensory responses
You're looking too much into the developers simply not adding that
Yeah, but it's fun to fill in the gap with whatever makes even the slightest bit of sense
What's the policy here on that one Bananza leak? I have something on my mind about it
we've discussed it heavily in #mario-spinoffs
Ah
Maybe it's already been discussed but, I'm wondering how this girl found her way to Ingot Isle
Especially if they're sticking with the Metro Kingdom being roughly north of DK Island
Yeah you can see what seems to be New Donk City in the distance of Ingot Isle during the zoom out shot
so I do think Ingot Isle is super close to it
I am definitely really curious how the girl got there
was she visiting the island? did VoidCo seek her out?
Why would VoidCo seek her out?
Ooooh I wanna see that
Assuming this IS the 3D Mario team which it likely is, it feels so nice to have pretty solid continuity between Mario subseries with them
I hope they can fit in some nod to Jungle Beat since they developed it, to bring it closer to the rest of DK's world
I like SuperMarioLogan even better because Mario is a dad because he taking care of Jeffy that very cool
@nocturne ice referenced the forbidden word 'supermariologan', breaking a streak of 23 days, 22 hours, 26 minutes, and 55 seconds.
I'll wait 30 seconds before warning you for this word again.
So I can’t say that word
Ok banned-word-tracker#1796 that a weird but I learn my lesson I shouldn’t say SuperMarioLogan so I won’t say it anymore
@nocturne ice referenced the forbidden word 'supermariologan', breaking a streak of 6 minutes and 54 seconds.
I'll wait 30 seconds before warning you for this word again.
do you think the mario universe works on a sliding timescale?
we see multiple nintendo consoles across the games from the NES to the switch and such
but it's implied that while the mario games take place over a course of years, it's not too many years as characters don't noticeably age
unless you're a kong for some reason
if you're unaware of what a sliding timescale is, here's an example
in the marvel comics, earth-616, the fantastic four got their powers 15 years ago. the year is 2025, so they got their powers in 2010
2020, they got their powers in 2005
2015, 2000
2010, 1995
2005, 1990
and so on
personally I see it more as a rapid advancement of technology in Mario's world.
That in-universe Nintendo has created and released games and systems much faster than irl.
but I do think it could have a sliding timescale.
all of MK8's dates on brands are 2014, but I'd imagine World will have some that say 2025
Its a me
If banjo and conker are in diddy kong racing and are cannon to the world of dk, does that mean the banjo games and conkers bad fur day exist in the world of mario?
Are gameboys genuinely that thick
no
Ok phew
Kinda
it's like half as thick
I’d say more like 3/4ths
We don't know the status of the connectivity of Rare games.
BUT Diddy Kong Racing is canon to the Banjo world, as referenced in Nuts n Bolts.
A few members of Rare have said on Twitter that they're not conencted. I believe Gregg Mayles said they were never supposed to be connected (I don't believe this is true). But we can't take former Rare staff's word because they aren't in charge of that. And even Rare today isn't in charge of the internal view of Nintendo.
Diddy Kong Racing DS does not feature Banjo or Conker, but that's due to licensing stuff, so it doesn't necessarily mean anything.
The Banjo-Kazooie reveal for Smash Bros shows DK & Diddy being familiar with each other, but Smash isn't canon to Mario, and it's also very meta, so who knows if it means anything.
Personally I would think that Nintendo doesn't see them as sharing a world (anymore), but there's no official statement.
TL;DR
We have no idea about Nintendo's view, but Rare sees them as being connected (at least as of Nuts n Bolts)
i can't imagine nintendo would see diddy kong racing as "canon"
they don't even own anything about that game other than diddy kong
and krunch
yeah
it's hard to imagine a day in which Nintendo references Diddy Kong Racing in basically any way
like even just ignoring what "canon" means for Mario, it's one of those things that will just never be acknowledged.
And any actual acknowledgement would be so surface level that it wouldn't matter.
unless they straight up bring Krunch back for some reason
that would be wild
i've always seen the DS version being the definitive canon version given that banjo and conker are excluded
although the presence of tiptup is kinda strange
My new theory is that, as we can hear, Pauline is getting her third song, but it sounds like her adult version is singing it, I think she doesn't remember anything and that at some point later in the story, she'll return to her adult form
Something to think about
it sounds the same as her other songs imo
I do think she'll have a credits song as an adult or something though
Maybe this goes into spoiler territory, but does Donkey Kong Bananza really change anything about how we understand the nature of wishes in the Mario world?
Not that I'm aware of
I think it would also depend on the wish granter
like the star spirits would grant things with grace, while a force of nature may interpret a wish more literally or not be careful about how the wish is granted.
so when it comes to Bananza ||I'd imagine the Banandium Root is more of the latter.
The wish for bananas/surface turned into a frankly quite destructive and dangerous tower of bananas that drilled through the entire planet.
The Star Spirits would not do that||
There is no Mario lore. The lore simply contorts to fit the situation of the game’s story
That’s my (sarcastic) answer to solving the Mario lore problems
Something about the Mario Lore that REALLY confuses me is Small Mario. In some games, Mario downgrades to a smaller form upon taking damage, but he doesn’t in others, just losing health with no shrinking. I honestly can’t figure out the lore reason behind this
I forgot to mention that this applies to other characters
there's not really any lore reason, honestly.
It's a very gameplay-first concept
it's half a gameplay abstraction, but it's also literal in the games it exists in.
My interpretation is that in universe Mario doesn't actually grow or shrink
The mushrooms just give him extra strength
Hence the ability to bust bricks
