Pressurized suspendium is the best source of armored lift at the moment. First of all it's straight up the cheapest. Lets compare the the surplus lift (lift - weight) to cost ratio of pressurized suspendium, the medium chamber, and the large chamber.

Only considering module, armor costs and weight, the ratios rounded to one decimal are:

med steel hvy wood hvy steel
pressurized 6.8 6.7 6.2
medium 4.8 4.5 4.1
large 6.0 5.9 5.5

Accounting for the costs of 3 years of crew and coal maintainence, along with some costs for supporting modules (enough coal for 3 mins, 3 years of coal and crew costs, +20 cost to represent some solid shapes for pressurized), the ratios become:

med steel hvy wood hvy steel
pressurized 6.1 6.1 5.5
medium 3.9 3.9 3.6
large 5.2 5.1 4.7

There is also some harder to quantify benifits to pressurized suspendium:

  • more lift modules to destroy
  • infinite up time
  • no crew
  • no coal
  • placable far from important modules to avoid explosion damage on destruction
  • no smoke stack like the large chamber

Despite chambers being way harder to build a ship around they are more expensive than pressurized suspendium. Balancing hazardous and cheap suspendium chambers and safer but more expensive pressurized suspendium seems like a more interesting dynamic than adding pressurized suspendium until you have enough lift.

I suggest the following changes:
pressurized: cost 80 > 150
medium chamber: lift 2000 > 3000
large chamber: cost 350 > 300, lift 5000 > 6000

This results in the following ratios for medium steel armor.

with additional costs
            med steel
pressurized 4.2
medium 7.1
large 8.4

without additional costs
            med steel
pressurized 4.0
medium 6.1
large 7.0

This would nerf pressurized suspendium to be about as cost effective as medium chambers are now and buff chambers to be about as cost effective as pressurized suspendium is currently.

You'd have to keep the existing ratio between large and regular sus chambers

#

So if you want 3000 for med, you'd have to give larges 7500

#

Also lift isint directly proportional to weight iirc so it's a bit of a flawed way of measuring things

The blogs say how high an airship goes is calculated by lift - weight, where any excess gives service ceiling. So I used lift - weight instead of just lift

#

The main point of this is that pressurized suspendium is the best at everything and needs a nerf

large suspendium chambers should be more efficient than medium ones

what about the tanks?

I disagree with the proposal. What you are doing is nerfing pressurized suspendium into oblivion, as well as overbuffing regular chambers. We will consider a buff to chambers, but the numbers are going to be vastly different.

I do think traditional suspendium chambers could use a buff in general because they are extremely expensive and not really any better then pressurized

yea, the downside of pressurized tanks always was that they blast your ship when hit, so they need to be isolated… which is pretty cool imo

#

Chambers are reliable and sturdy

#

I would rather give them a small hp bonus or less explosion damage

dafeesh is partially right, the chambers need to have their explosion floor decreased even further

split wind

yeah

#

but the ability to repair them is something that purely comparing cost per lift doesn't take into account

correct

It is certainly a thing

#

Also you have to keep in mind at least in comparison to medium suspendium chambers, they take up more volume then pressurized ones the main problem with that being more of your ship is at risk with one puncture in the armor which is a factor in survivability as well.

The extreme cost increase for pressurized is necessary. Even with nearly doubled cost it's about as cost effective as medium chambers are now if you account for maintenance.
