#Fallout

i hope it's good
I have mid expectations
I have decent hopes honestly. From what I can tell they've at least nailed the tone and sets
But the trailers seemed to nail the vibe
Which is all I honestly care about
Already planning on a Season 2 is a decent sign that Amazon has some faith in it. No reviews yet and then suddenly shifting the release gives me pause though.
Feels a bit better with all these pretty decent shows being canceled after 1 season
A person I know who had seen the first 6 episodes as of the beginning of the year said it good and was true to the material
Fallout spoiler: || You've been Nick Valentine'd ||
You're going to end up the boy who cried wolf
Worth it for short term gain
Imma block you
(affectionate)
Is it confirmed if Season 2 is a continuation of Season 1 or a new story? Or do we not know
now releases all 8 eps on wednesday at 6PM instead of thurs
Right before I start my new job. No time to binge
it's up already?
ah
does it feel more fallout 4-y than older games
nah it's just the overall vibe of it
like fallout 3 and 4 have different vibes
but if you haven't played them its hard to explain

Fallout stands up there with The Last of Us among the best game adaptations ever made. Brilliantly constructed, its three distinct leads travel through cleverly linked storylines that build to a fantastic finale.
Our review: https://t.co/8ynifAWXf4
Halfway through episode 1 and the answer is that it’s very Fallout 4-vibes
Which I kind of expected, that’s just what Bethesda decided fallout is now
first ep was good. I'm not too excited about this seemingly being a wholly East Coast Brotherhood unit operating in LA but bethesda gonna bethesda
Finished the first episode, it was really good, definitely has a lot of the spirit of the game especially in the Vault sections, now I want to do a New Vegas or FO4 run.
I did not.
i paid for ad-free for a month since it all dropped at once
The Brotherhood stuff is the least interesting part so far to me.
I'm guessing the vault experiment here is having 31, 32, and 33 all interconnected and giving them each a third of what a normal vault would get
It's weird because even Maxson's Brotherhood isn't so religious about it all. That's very much an old west coast BoS thing
Lyon's Brotherhood even less so
oh i did math wrong, this is set almost 10 years after Fallout 4
I suppose it's feasible that Maxson expanded west by now
Michael Emerson is such a good character actor. Brotherhood is definitely the least interesting but I found it the least interesting in the games too. I think Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins are such better actors and that doesn’t help.
I definitely relished destroying their big balloon in FO4.
I have hated all iterations of the brotherhood but I hate this one the most
And the power armor looks like eva foam
Also I love basically all the visuals but hate the writing lol
It’s uncle baby Bobby Billy
I'm annoyed but I'm pretty sure explaining why will make me look like an enormous nerd
I'm getting a similar feeling as when I watched Netflix Castlevania
I'm here. And I'm happy. One episode down.
Cute+Devastation=my kinda thing
I thought it was cute that Titus chose Maximus. I love the inclusion of Dane. Vault 33 was gorgeous. Kinda mad at the raiders wastefulness. But I get their rage.
I like the nuanced setup of the Brotherhood in this. We open with them allowing a bunch of jerks beating the snot out of one them and noone stops it. (Absolutely noted race throughout the show too) It allowed new audiences to understand that, while they are shiny fighters thinking they are fighting the good fight, they are not the good guys.
And there was a lot of that. A lot of small purposeful choices.
Even down to the curtain wipe of 2024.
There are many different branches and generations of BoS
Many suck but some are okay
FO3 brotherhood is fine imo
I think the main reason they are hated is cause they think they are better than everyone and like to hoard technology
FO3 was also an outlier where they were more focused on defending the Capitol than finding and preserving tech.
Yeah exactly
I want to yell more about this show but my brain is goop at the moment. But I am really pleased. Starting episode 2 tonight.
I was happy with ep 1 and started getting annoyed a bit at ep 2, but I realize I am ultra picky and hard to please
I am also bad at explaining myself but I think my main complaint is that I feel like they forced extra edginess in for the sake of being popular with non-game fans, similar to what Netflix Castlevania did? I know the games are dark/funny at the same time but the cheeky haha edgy shit was starting to border on too much for me
But I still need to watch more
I definitely got the feeling that Amazon mandated The Boys-style hyperviolence at points.
And extra sex
To me a lot of the starting vault stuff was an homage to the movie “A Boy and his Dog” which had a plot very similar concerning procreation and genetics.
That's cool to read about since I didn't know the reference, and it's clearly an inspiration for a lot of fallout content. But do we really need direct references to another media when the current fallout lore is already so rich?
Still just two episodes

My wife hated it so i need alone time to watch the rest
She was like wtf we only watched two episodes and it took two hours? That's like a whole movie
We are bad at things
(Like sitting still)
Also most tv was 22 minutes without commercials, and we have always been
i have just been informed matt berry is mr handy and now i am so so so so pissed i dont have time to watch this show rn
Luckily that's just a silly little robot
I know. I am the biggest fan in the world of IT crowd
yeah i only have uhhhh six more episodes of invincible to go
So Matt berry is big for me
and also several bad batch episodes
im trapped binging anime for club every week
but soon i graduate it will be over
Oh no anime club, they are going to punish you
Probably with Yaoi paddles
Excuse me!
Mr Handy is a treasure!
Anyway I came in to say my Fallout allegiance is to Mr Snip Snips. He is the most beautiful boy. I will also need a vault dweller suit and pouches to contain Mr Handy repair parts.
I loved it
Ghouls don't seem to die of old age, but they do turn feral, presumably the (Rad-Away?) IV is to keep him sane.
In the games, they could conceivably live forever if they don't get killed. Like vampires
We stopped after episode 4 too.
i have just finished episode 1
all i know about fallout is the cockroach family
and for some reason everyone likes nukacola
I had to stop at the start of episode 2
I fell asleep watching ep 3 last night
I have thoughts about this but I will expound later
Spotted Moira’s Wasteland Survival Guide
I think it makes a decent amount of sense culturally in that scenario as long as the limits are discussed healthily, which it seems like they are!
So I thought it was funny and interesting
I hope slo-mo isn't extremely prevalent
....I like the way they have been doing it. To evoke VATS
I'll have to see how they do it later
The huge nerd in me was a little annoyed that they used it for people who don't have a pipboy but mostly I like it for the vibes so far
Ooooh I didn't even think about that haha
Well she failed her first speech check
finished ep 2
I'll be starting 5 tonight!
I hope I get to see more of my favorite metal round boy!
I was told synths aren't in this. Makes me just a tiny bit sad because I have a totally healthy not obsessive attraction to robot men, AI, cyborgs, etc.
Hmm. If they aren't, Season 2 is already confirmed, so... maybe?
I can dream. Hah. For now ep4 ||Mr Handys do just fine.||
I love them and also kind of want to punt one.
Chet is effin adorable btw. Cousin be damned.
I wonder if it's cause ||it's after the Institute's (I think canonical) defeat in FO4 and on the other side of the country in an area with heavy BoS presence?||
And I really like that the brother isn't a throw away character.
Pure speculation
Yeah that's what I was told.
Also saves production money.
Heh.
I missed this before but yes
The games were never quite this violent, right?
Not particularly
Bloody mess is a thing in the games but even then it just makes kills like, explode
i'd wait like 2 weeks at this point if you're going to
they're pushing out the "next-gen" update on the 25th which isn't really gonna do anything for PC except break mods
so either play vanilla (which is fine), or wait till the QOL mods are fixed lol
Yeah. There's a lot more cgi blood than I was expecting
The game are only not super gory cause of graphics decisions imo. There is lots of violence and body parts and gore it's just more "video gamey" if that makes sense.
Some of the corpses in 76 make me a little queasy honestly. They stepped it up a little in that game
Yeah that's mainly what I'm saying haha
Starting ep 3 now
Sunset sarsaparilla truck, new Vegas keeps winning
I’m tempted to give FO76 another shot after the show
I play it on and off. It's pretty fun
i'm still in shock over the ||puppy going into the furnace|| in ep 2
Yup
I still remember the canvas bag controversy like it was only a few months ago
This is interesting
TTW is the best way to play FO3 now
If only for the fact that you get the engine improvements from NV
It's an ancient fridge joke that fallout has been stealing from indy for ages
I need to catch up to y'all though
Having a normal butt is apparently a crime now
you try being that thin and also having a nice rear end!
True lol
Finished ep 6
You knew it was coming though
||vaults can’t be normal, that’s the whole shtick||
||there were a few control vaults and the secret vault, but those are definitely exceptions, not the rule||
||she was likely talking about the secret vault though, that one was under LA and designed for Vault-Tec employees||
Oh you should def go rewatch that scene when you’re not half asleep lmao
Ep 7: ||Fred Armisen?!? Being a nerd about vinyl quality?!?||
Tbf I was a stick with a butt pre-having a kid. It is possible.
But completely unnecessary edit!
Do TTW or Viva New Vegas
Don’t try to play straight vanilla NV lol
Both of those are mod packs
I assume the prime one is GOTY
So you can do either
It’s some of the paid mods they had in the store
That’s all
Oh that might be new idk
Yes
Starting ep 8
This is all just part of the fallout Bethesda experience with mods
Ep 8: ||actual new Vegas references holy shit||
Huh, okay
This is an interesting way of doing this
Bethesda really likes their own stories
||this suddenly became Fallout 3 and 4’s plots mixed together||
Finished it. I want season 2 immediately please
If only to see ||what they picked as a canon ending for New Vegas||
mildly surprised that there were no ||deathclaws or super mutants in the whole season||
Finished.
A
Maz
Ing
I cried for no other reason except joy at how well they did.
Me on the couch to hubs: I don't even know why I'm crying! It was just so beautiful!
I just finished episode 4
I like it a little more now. Still unhappy about ghoul treatment retcon from games but I'll live
||It's heavily implied in FO4 that Vault-Tec started the war, but this is the first time it's explicitly said. Moldaver doesn't really hand it over to the brotherhood so much as she just wanted to see it work before the brotherhood took over the observatory||
We binge watched this over the weekend, it was a lot better than I expected
I’ve only played Fallout 4
I'm interested to see what gail thinks the further along they get.
I am invested.
I watched through 6 last night, need a break haha
I get that. I watched in two episode bursts. Anything more would be too much in one sitting for my brain to really appreciate everything.
I finished ep 1 earlier today. A good fucken start. I love it already
Just started ep 3. But thinking back to 2 ||were ghouls ever invulnerable ||?
||only to radiation. they can still be killed||
I dont want to spoil anything, but you'll understand why I ask when you watch ep 2
They changed a decent bit about how ghouls work as far as I can tell
In the games, ||it's pretty rare for a non-feral ghoul to go feral. It seems like something that is determined by genetics or something at the initial exposure to radiation, but it's never fully explained or fleshed out in detail||
There’s also the thing in ep 8 with ||Thaddeus turning into a ghoul but that’s not entirely unprecedented, Hancock in FO4 also claims to have been ghoulified by a drug||
I am looking forward to catching up on all these spoiler tags later
Same
||they heal in radiation||
I saw some comments theorizing that (ep 8): ||Thaddeus isn’t turned into a ghoul, but that the snake oil salesman may have somehow had a bit of FEV and he’s gonna turn into a super mutant||
Yeah it’s just ||the shit that makes super mutants in general||
It can do a lot of crazy things to organisms (but usually just turns to SM). Harold called himself a ghoul before he turned into a tree but I think it turned out to be FEV
Not spoilering that cause it's fallout 3 and earlier shit
Music and homemade traps.
Finished. This thread is now safe.
Man, they nailed the tone.
They made little nods to the games, but didn't wink-and-nod too much. They even made small digs at things about the games that folks often find frustrating. That sold me on their... I don't know, "sincerity?"
Oh that reminds me! I loved it when the hacking made it on screen.
It's nice that they set that up. I believed it because he was on his pip all day in the beginning.
DANG, I was just typing about that.
I really like it. For all dissertation committees for students in my department, you have to have one member that isn't in the department. You want to have someone that doesn't know very much about the topic specifically, so they're less likely to get lost in the weeds while other stuff may be glaring.
I dig it.
She does to me! She should have been dead very many times over
Todd Howard confirms that ‘FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS’ is canon to the events of the ‘FALLOUT’ series.
“There might be a little bit of confusion in some places.“
(Source: https://t.co/zRiktwPSfq)
Part of me wonders if the dates are just a little off. Like New Vegas and the NCR use different years, because Wasteland.
I just want to know which New Vegas ending they chose as canon
Ep 8: ||the credits sequence flyover shows what looks like a destroyed Strip, so it’s likely not the House ending. NCR is gone as far as the show seems to tell us. Legion ending is so half baked in the game I can’t imagine they’d use that ever again. So it’s likely Yes Man with House dead I guess?||
it is very funny that anyone intrigued by the fallout show will be pointed to a ten year old video game with no sequel inbound for at least ten more years
It’s wild that the most they got for this is the FO4 update 3 weeks after the show release
There was rumors of a Fallout 3 remaster last year, that would have sold like crazy right now
That's what I'm thinking. ||The downfall didn't happen all at once, and the bombing doesn't have to be at the same time as the "downfall." I still think there's bits of the NCR out there, but Shady Sands... RIP.||
||Shady Sands is only mentioned in a single line from a non-named NPC in New Vegas anyway||
New Vegas mega fans are the worst
The minute Bethesda said anything about the west coast those kind of fans wrote it off
Considering that scene was the FO4 version of the main theme, a sane one
That scene was great
Just started Episode 4 ||I'm very glad they didn't just move from the vault and kept a storyline there||
Amazing timing on ||Fallout 4 title music||
the dialogue is pretty close to the games
except lucy
shes the outlier for comic relief
We exist!
Us Lucies would absolutely exist in a Fallout world. Just maybe not for long.
Bahaha
I am laughing entirely too hard for the amount of energy I currently possess. This show has so much in it you could make a whole college class on it.
Thesis papers galore.
story is weak around the 3 vaults at this point but I’m only on ep 5
I'm such a jerk for forgetting brother's name.
Norm!
I almost wanted to call him Norman like Bates.
Maybe they just don't mention his name much. Norm is great though. I really loved everything they did with him.
In so many series he'd be a throw away character.
I'm on ep 7 and I think it's only mentioned like 3 times
I wonder if they named him that to reflect that he's the normal character. Or is it a reference?
What they didn't reveal was that his middle name is Hull
Pretty clearly a reference to Norm from Cheers.
Yes
Sir. I was baby worm. So I apologize if that was or wasn't a joke.
If it was, hahaha. If not, oh dang.
Oh my gosh they said Norman's name again
I COMPLETELY agree with this assessment
I liked the show for the visuals but I didn't enjoy the writing or acting thaaat much. And I love the fallout games
Great job making magic @rose gorge!
Mickey is promoting you to level 54 !
There are definitely points in the show that feel gratuitous for gratuity's sake
like one of the studio notes was "The Boys is really popular, be more like The Boys"
It's so good!
Also ||New Vegas mentioned||
The acting, the writing, visuals, music and sound A++.
But I came in here to share that I asked Alexa to play music from Fallout and she just played me Fallout Boy.
My only big issue was ||How conveniently forgiving the Brotherhood was to Max||
I was like noooope but ok we're here now.
Ooo that's a good point. Why did old man like him so much?
I'd spoiler that just in case
Him who? Which old man?
Which btw it is so refreshing to have so many ages in this show.
From what I remember, ||the West Coast part of BoS is just a shit show||
Sometimes I'll watch a show with only 20somethings in it and it gets old almost instantly.
I'm sure a lot of factions are. But what ||makes him trust Max and think he's usable? Because he obviously isn't malleable or trustworthy for him. ||
Hubs agrees with you. ||"They need every recruit they can get because they're kind of a mess."||
||"And he knows where the head is. It's better than having to restart the search."||
What I said and deleted is right but may be out of line.
I seent it
What Would Lucy Do
Have sex, apparently
Lmao
I love her honesty and how she develops and navigates using it in this new harsh world.
It would have been very easy for Ella Purnell's character to be annoying.
By the time she gets to the other || vault, she struggles but is able (until a point) not blurt out observations. Of course after the ashes she is thrown back to square one. Then learns.||
Definitely but it seems to come from such a genuine place.
Great acting.
Very little complaints about acting
"Golden Rule, motherfucker."
She's gettin' there.
Okay ||but I wasn’t expecting them getting nude in ep 6
||
My immediate response || to that scene was a certain o word that I asked out loud.||
There are many kinds of vaults.
This is my vault. There are many like it, but this one is mine
What kind of vault would you be in?
I asked myself then quickly realized nah I'd probably just die immediately.
Probably 106
is 106 the drugs one or Gary
The show shows a vault in south NJ and I was wondering what it was but I can't find anything on it. Just real fallout shelters there. lol. My old grounds are ready.
the ghoul and actor being the same person didn’t surprise me. the hints were not subtle
I didn't think they tried to hide that at all
oh I thought it was suppose to be the surprise aha moment why he hates vault tech so much
yeah that was just the core conceit of the show lmao
i need to watch the whole thing again less toasted I think
They probably saved this info to be explained in Season 2
Whoops sorry for the ping
What annoys me is that could have taken the 5 minutes that Lucy was just staring at her father to do some more exposition on that
And another thing. ||Betty seemed to be high up in Vault-Tec, and held some influence with Bud. Why would she ever let them approve of dropping the nuke without first making sure her kid was nearby?!||
I think that’ll definitely be explored more in season 2 but ||just because Vault-Tec had the idea to drop the bombs first doesn’t necessarily mean they actually did. Fallout has never given a definite answer of who shot first, because the point is that it doesn’t matter||
Good points
finally finished the last episode. it got better as we got to the later episodes.
I finished the series, I really like how well they were able to build the world of Fallout fairly naturally throughout the series without it being too explainy. That being said, they definitely knew they were getting a second season while writing it.
Also finished it. It felt very Fallout and made me want to dive back into the games. I might have some stuff still to do in FO4 once they update that and I still have NV to play so now I have to figure out which mods to install so I can lose my life to that.
If you’re gonna do NV I highly recommend either Viva New Vegas or this video which has details about how to use Wabbajack https://youtu.be/9WZ5g7246i0?si=Sq7JH7vH0wTNddAD
Looking for the best Fallout mods? Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas are getting on a bit, and with both games being more popular than ever thanks to Prime Video's Fallout TV show, you might be left wondering how to get started. Don't worry, we've got you covered with our list of the best Fallout 3 mods and best Fallout New Vegas mods! Let's take ...
@haterbog
We still don’t know how she’s alive rn right
who? the NCR leader?
Yeah, we don’t know how she’s still alive. I would guess she found her way into cryo
most likely is that she was also in vault 31 (or another in the area)
neat answer would be synth but i really don't want synths on the west coast
I debated leaving that autocorrect typo
the only ways any pre-war people have been alive during the game timeline is cryo (in Vault 111 and now 31), and Mr. House with his not-quite-cryo box
and ghouls
lmao imagine they keep that
they did try to pull an "actually aliens did it" in the games once
That I did not know though I know aliens are a thing and they’re obsessed with the tv shows or something like that.
that would be sweet
I'm really interested to see how much (if any) of New Vegas they pull from for season 2
idk how well you could pull off a real life Followers or Boomers
"Yeah this faction is just a bunch of doctors who want to help people, the catch is they're Mormon"
there's also the very strange case of the Mysterious Stranger, but that is too deep a dive
haha true

Just give me Gary
ok @rose gorge what did you think about Fallout?
Prime Video’s Fallout TV show ended with a clear nod to Mr. House from Fallout: New Vegas. The showrunners have confirmed in a recent interview that the character will play a part in Season 2. https://t.co/QejnUILMKY
So I enjoyed this show immensely, what’s our feelings
My main beef is just that the whole “ghouls need drugs to notify go feral” is stupid.
oh ya that was dumb
Yes same
I liked how realistically evil Vault Tec was
I’m excited to do a rewatch because there’s so much that means More in retrospect
Like ohh, knowing he’s a veteran, this makes senseeee
They threaded in his knowledge of power armor from the start
It is such a rare delight to get a television show where my questions are actually answered and things are set up
He was such a good character.
I was literally like “it fits the universe but why does the water creature have fingers in its mouth” and then they ANSWERED IT
I would’ve just accepted that that thing existed in fallout!
Gotta say my favorite minor character was the insane drug doctor guy
The performance and styling and sheer insanity really heightened … everything
I’m curious to see where Thaddeus’s story goes on that front because it could go a lot of ways, some vastly more stupid than others, but honestly the show didn’t let me down yet so I’m cautiously placing my trust in them to do something interesting there.
I also need to know how Muldaver is still alive.
That’s one of those things where I don’t mind having open threads at the end of the season but I’m very eager and excited to know more
My guess is she somehow got on the ins with the group that went into cryo and then escaped early on
Maybeee
It could be cryo, it could be smth else. “Smth else”, much like Thaddeus and the miracle drug, could be very stupid or very good
But so far the twists have been good
Bud Atkins being the big reveal twist there at the end was really good for me because I’d also written him off as a stupid middling manager in an evil corporation
And then you realize that even just being that, he’s caused so much pain and evil for vaults 32 and 33
I liked that vault 4 was like a double subversion lovecraft fish people situation.
It was kinda wacky but in a way that worked for me and makes you question your own biases, like sure the overseer is a mutant with some prejudices towards surface dwellers, but. Is he worse than many people alive today? Or do I just find him personally kinda unpleasant?
Overall it’s giving me the emotion I felt about Westworld S1, where the pieces came together in a satisfying way and I was excited to watch it again, knowing where it was going, because the puzzle pieces would be more evident on a second watch
My poor roommate having to hear me and my deep knowledge of Fallout lore either criticize things on a level she couldn’t care about OR get very excited about being pandered to
I’ve never had a show pander to me before!
Sorry for all the times I’ve made fun of Star Wars fans, I will do it again, but I see why something being made for you is one hell of a drug
Oh, and the opening with the guys scavenging for caps incorporating the Fallout: New Vegas theme. Mixed feelings because fuck you Bethesda but it was a nice little nod, I think.
The roommate and I trying to figure out if saying “I can see my house from here” is accurate
Hunter helping
Right?? The only experience I've had like this before was the Netflix Castlevania show, which started so good and then pissed me off immensely in season two
So I still worry lol
I never fully trust
But by three episodes into Fallout I was like, okay. I think I trust this season is gonna be good.
And now I trust enough that I’m excited to see Season 2 and will tune in
Even if S2 is bad, though, S1 is really good
And they can’t take that away
I am a master in ignoring everything after Westworld season 1 so I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again
It’s also been a while since I saw something with such strong characters and I’m delighted by that
The characters are great
My favorite thing is just how pretty it was
Like in a game-accurate way.... pretty can mean ugly or otherwise here the way I'm using it
I just loved everything about the costume and set design
The design was INCREDIBLE
the canon stuff fit in and wasn’t just being dangled to get you to go ooooo
Mhm
Which is nice
My main gripe is a common one I see in shows, which was Lucy at the end
Stop standing there and doing nothing
I shouldn’t have started this conversation when I have cleaning to do XD
I liked Lucy’s ending because it was her having to decide which side to be on and who to believe
It was very internal
But I can see the criticism
That's fine, but this is after she decides that internally. She still just stands there and let's her dad get away. I didn't expect her to kill him, but do something, please
lol fair
He did have power armor tho so I get the idea of her going “how am I gonna stop him”
I’ll have to rewatch but I feel like she was distracted at that point
Something else was going on and I lost track of dad so I could see her not expecting that either
But it did have the air of “we need him to get away so he can return next season”, for sure
Yeah, which is fine. I'd rather have it serve the story, but I'm still peeved lol
I don’t ultra mind that because we do need some loose ends to carry through, but it was a little weird
I’m cautiously trusting that he’ll server a purpose
The reveal of him as Hank from the phone was SO much
THAT was a well done reveal
To be honest, I liked the side story in the vault more than the main one
The investigative boys?
Yea
I likes all the plots running tbh, it was well done in making you care a lot about each one
At least to me
I agree, but the vault story was just an edge above
Lucy’s more of the Fallout Protagonist ™ who’s going on her personal journey, but splitting off what would normally be the protagonist finding out about the vault and giving it to her brother & cousin was a very good move
She wasn’t going to go back to the vault obvs
I can see that, tbh. It definitely had the most interesting and coherent resolution
I’m interested in where the Lucy/ghoul partnership is gonna go, now that they’re on more equal footing
He was like the shadow mentor who taught her how to be a wastelander and now they’re teaming up, which is interesting! Lots of character potential
Just getting caught up on this chat.
That is Jon Daly, who is great in everything he does.
I'm pretty sure I can see my house somewhere in the lower left
as a non-Fallout player, if there were any easter eggs or references to game things they were lost on me. Nothing seemed out of place so I'm guessing whatever references there were were not shoehorned in.
It's a very well fleshed out world so it just worked. Rather than "Easter eggs" it was legit just like "this is fallout world". Although there were definite references to specific things from many of the games. I dunno if that makes sense.
there were a lot of things where knowing the setting gave me additional info or made me happy to see something, but nothing I could see were NOT being a player would’ve hindered your experience
You can tell me if that’s accurate lol
All the moments that made me happy as someone who knows the lore were moments the lore was well integrated
In what order would you recommend playing the games?
There are a lot of them and I have maybe 5 hours of free time a week.
You don't necessarily need to play them in a specific order. New Vegas is probably the big fan favorite game but Fallout 4 was really accesible to new players. I've heard 76 has gotten better but I'm not a fan of the online nature of it
I know Kat will recommend you start with New Vegas
so it's not sequels that build the story?
The earlier games do to an extent but not really. It does flesh out the overall world though
New Vegas is closest in location to the show. Fallout 4 takes place around Boston. 76 is Virgina and is the first vault to open so when the game first came out, there were no human NPCs which people hated.
so New Vegas would be the place to start if my only interest in the game stems from watching the show?
Probably but that's one I have yet to play so I don't know what connection there would be besides that location shown at the end of the show was New Vegas
Yeah I think there’s going to be a lot of connections between New Vegas and Season 2
I agree on starting with NV
It's also more concise of a game than 3 or 4 which sounds like it would work for your schedule
I'd also recommend avoiding the DLCs for a little while after you start playing if you get the ultimate edition (which you should, it's only like $8 rn on steam)
If you wait, Kat can also give you some mods to utilize
theres a character or 2 teased from new vegas
@lilac grove you should only play new Vegas. :)
Now that I’ve caught up, you’re right but I hate you.
It happens
I didn't because I wasn't going to play the game yet
I have an incredibly large backlog
But you come to me on this, the weekend I independently decided to mod the roommate’s FNV install.
And you don’t even think to call me godfather.
I’m giving her a vanilla-but-fixed loadout so I’ll tell you the same
but also remind me and I will get back to you, you know I have crap memory
You shall be reminded later
3 is the start of "modern" fallout, new vegas is the fan favorite, 4 is the most new player accessible (and has some story threads continuing from 3 but not a ton)
It's a little more involved than vanilla-but-fixed but I typically recommend Viva New Vegas to brand new players
Step by step guide to getting the most critical things installed, or a guide to use wabbajack (an auto installer) to do it for you
Mods? Are you not aware that I am a console jockey?
that reaction seems about appropriate
3 and NV on console are... not great
well, they weren't on release at least, idk if backwards compatibilty on new xbox makes it any better
4's fine and just got the "next gen" update not that long ago, and can actually do mods on console (to a degree)
oh god. Am i going to have to get a steam account just to play Fallout? never mind too much work.
Now's the time to do it if you're going to lmao
I've waited this long. I can wait a little longer
You probably have time. I don’t expect season 2 of the show for another couple years at the speed they go these days
oh dang time to cop NV, I’ve only played 4
oh, that reminds me. I had one question about the show vs. game(s) - the armor suit military/knight types that Maximus is a part of; are they bad guys in the game(s), neutral or good guys?
My reading from the show is that they're an obstacle in the games.
It really depends. Some like siding with them while others don’t.
Just noticed that their masks are on almost every game cover so I assume they're a big deal.
Their whole thing is preserving technology and keeping it from others.
Oh, are they just a faction you can either side with or side against? Like mages in Dragon Age?
Yeah
At least in 4.
The show actually answered which of 4’s endings are the cannon ending for the overall world.
*canon
Oh, my guess was fascist warlords operating under the guise of "saving civilization"
you're not entirely off there either
Yeah. I believe it is a military offshoot post war.
I'm not your bud, friend.
too much spoiler for me. Not gonna read
anyway, just made a Steam account. Fallout 3 is 2.49. Fallout 3 GOTY is 6.59. Are the extras worth the extra $4.10?
Why not? It’s $4
absolutely worth
the DLC for that game is amazing
OH sorry
i meant NV
I didn't play a lot of them for 3 and I can't get it to run on newer windows no matter how hard I try
this is pretty accurate. they are a very splintered faction and over many time periods and parts of the country, the groups have had different values while operating under the same name
I find them almost always insufferable
i recommend tale of two wastelands (even just to play through 3)
oop sorry for ping
no worries, I don't mind a ping
TTW converts 3 into dlcs for NV so you get the slightly more updated engine that doesn't hate modern systems
sounds good, I'll check it out! it's just annoying cause I already own the game and don't like modding haha
We're back bitches
Noooo
guess I'll just have to stay out of here

have you watched any of it yet?
Watching Ep1 now. Weekly release again
I liked the first episode, but the stuff with the vault dwellers (aside from Norm) was deeply unfunny.
I dunno where this side story is going with Norm. Its very meh
I don't agree. I am happy that he did exactly what I wanted him to from the start of the episode. The rest of V33 I agree with, but they'll likely come back into play with Norm later
no wait not Norm. The other person starting a group thing
I wasn't expecting that death so soon.
I’m caught up now
My takes:
Thank god we’re getting more Maximus development, we need it. Also love them keeping the proper Latin pronunciation. And I hesitantly like the Legion having gone to shit when the single charismatic leader died, that makes sense. Macaulay Culkin as a Legate is a good move. I’m not sure if I want more Legion or if I’m happy leaving them there but I guess we’ll see.
Also love Norm leading the middle managers via buzzwords. Absolutely the sort of insane, stupid bullshit you would want in a Fallout vault.
It’s still so weird to be the fan getting serviced. They keep jingling keys in my face like I’m a baby and I go “yoooo it’s from the soundtrack <333 my favorite game <333” even though the entire concept of miniaturization goes against canon and the whole Infinite Energy thing is just a bit stupid as a plot device. But then they’re like “look at the plumes on the centurion’s helmet” and I’m like “yay yippie” so who knows. This is a new experience for me.
Mostly tho I have not forgiven nor forgot Westworld’s nosedive in quality so I’m fingers crossed we won’t see that again.
I had to start rewatching S1 because I had no idea what was going on. Had zero memory of who the guy who got locked in the one vault was or how he got there (turns out he’s Ella purnell’s brother).
Not really complaining, but it's weird that we just completely dropped the other Vault dwellers these last 2 episodes
It would have been too much, though. We're already focusing on 3 stories per episode
Technically 4
There is a lot going on
I love how well Goggins sold the ghoul's pure terror at the end.
Is the scene where Lucy gets ||a buttload of guns|| a specific reference to a part of the games? Like, ||are those all actual guns you can get? Is it a big milestone to get those guns?||
Most of the reason I had to rewatch S1 was because I had no memory of who the vault dwellers were or where their stories were at the end of the season. I forgot Lucy even had a brother.
This week's episode was really good wow
No.
Good morning, Vault Dwellers! Due to strong participation and interest, we have amended the start times for the remaining Season Two presentations. Episode Seven will now begin Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. PT, and Episode Eight will now begin Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. PT. Your punctuality is appreciated!
I'm really impressed with how this season has gone
Jonathan Nolan & Lisa Joy projects don't tend to be as strong after season 1
lucy’s and norms storyline felt very anti-climatic
just a setup for the next season lol
Yup
someone on tumblr pointed out that Lucy hasn’t mentioned Maximus at all to anyone in S2 and I can’t unsee that now
Hmm so fallout 1,2,3, or 76 then since 4 and Vegas are done
But theories point to Colorado despite the comments to possibly the canceled fallout Van Buren game or fallout tactics/vault 0
How is 4 done?
I honest to god have no idea what Lucy and Maximus could be doing anymore. It’s all so … what do yall want.
True 🤔
Also sorry this wasn’t snippy at you, I’m just disappointed in this season lol 😅
I wasn’t fully in love with S1 but I figured it would depend on if S2 addressed the things left open, but … no. So now I know things just remain unaddressed.
I’m not normally a “please explain this to me, Reddit” person but I went looking last night to see if the show had ever bothered to explain Moldaver surviving 200 years and uh, nope.
When the major antagonist (….kinda) of Season 1 managed to be magically be immortal and they NEVER BOTHERED TO EXPLAIN, I have lost faith in this show to think about anything.
Sure, The Ghoul is badass. But I ALWAYS hated the addition of the magic anti-feral potion, it feels extremely Bethesda. To add insult to injury, implying that he resists going feral because of his love for his family? What a slap in the face to every other feral ghoul, huh?
Lucy’s arc was absolutely nothing. She doesn’t HAVE an arc. Two seasons in the wasteland and the question still remains “Will Lucy do bad things? 🥺” and the answer to that seems to be “no”. I’m disinterested in her actions because she just gets carried place to place by more interesting characters.
Which is a SHAME because I want to like her! Purnell’s acting is top notch but she isn’t given enough to do.
Maximus is … here. My spicy opinion is this actor just isn’t strong enough to carry this role, and I can’t tell if that’s him, that’s directing, or it’s the script, but I simply don’t care. Both Dane and Thaddeus are more vibrant and interesting actors, with more interesting actions too.
The BoS plotline … going nowhere? I’m not even sure. I’m almost sure I don’t care tho.
And if the ghoul is fucking off to Colorado but Lucy and Maximus aren’t, what the fuck is the point of them all sharing screen time? That makes it two separate shows that are competing for 8 hrs of show time.
Also, Lucy never mentions Maximus or her mom or anything that might matter in S2. So … mmm. I don’t trust the writers and I won’t be filling their giant plot holes.
Also, Mr. House. What was happening. Why. I don’t know and at this point I’m unsure if I care.
Also, Sugarbomb is a stupid nickname, it always has been, and Hank repeated it so many times I genuinely began to wonder if he remembered his daughter’s name.
Suggestions are that S3 is going towards the stories of the cancelled Fallout game
Yup
I think there were some other details besides Colorado that have people thinking Van Buren will be incorporated with S3
my opinion is just
