Unrelated but have you also watched Tokyo Vice?
Ansel is definitely ehh and tough to root for as a human, but he’s good in the show and as a whole it’s entertaining
Ok I was literally about to make a “sho-ho sho-ho a shogun’s life for me” joke
Just started it
Also got irrationally excited about the Englishman being Jason Mantzoukas but alas, it wasn’t meant to be
I'm thinking I might want to start this over the weekend. Sounds like positive so far?
My dad apparently already started it and lost interest because he wasn't interested in "reading the whole show."
I'm gonna give it a shot anyway
I was wondering if it's because of 1899's reception.
Amazing show. I love it dearly. But I'm sure a lot of the potential audience was never gained because most of the languages were not English. Which annoys me. Multiple languages is one of the things I really enjoyed about it.
Shōgun not using Portuguese confused me at first. I was wondering if the Portuguese people who interacted with Japan just told the Japanese people that both English and Portuguese were Portuguese.
But nope.
Feels very Chernobyl-like in that regard
More tonight!!
Oh nice – I thought these were Wednesday night drops
The boys love it @lost drift
Same — it just moved and felt connected
And an old school, smart way to keep ||Mariko narratively relevant without unnecessary movement||
‘SHOGUN’ will likely not get a Season 2.
“We love how the book ends; it was one of the reasons why we both knew we wanted to do it — and we ended in exactly that place.”

I'm worried about their ||son though. Now that he's by himself. And his dad is a traitor.||
Great job making magic @tall zinc!
Mickey is promoting you to level 13 !
||WAAAAR||
Not sure how I feel about the coupling.
I guess if something is easily seen from the get-go, it doesn't mean it's bad.
Fuji with the gun had me fanning myself. "Give them to me." Because she knew they'd have to go away if she was the one holding it up.
Give that lady some people to kill and she's going to be just fine.
Wait
Wait. Wait.
Is it tonight at 9? But it's Monday. My brain is doing a poop.
Damn elder millenial brain. Come on.
I have watched the past three episodes at 9pm on Monday but for some reason forgot today.
Maybe my brain likes to lose its memory at times in order to let me experience surprises.
A little treat.
I have not read the story or watched the old show. But that definitely sounds like "big bad" music.
Is she the final boss?
I love her.
Just got done with episode 2
They did a really poor job establishing who or where this character was from lol. I was so fucking confused, thought he was Spanish or Portuguese, but then the Spaniard who works for the Portuguese calls him Ingles
The soundtrack slaps so fucking hard
I really thought Mariko would join.
I am confused.
Toranaga gave her an excuse to follow her desire. A ding dang blessing to do so.
Get out of jail free card. Noone would blame you. Treat yourself.
My brain can't comprehend her decision.
Tomorrow
Yeah.
I was thinking they should use the Willow World.
But wasn't sure if that parted too far from the historic inspiration.
Then boom it kind of happened.
Just not well.
I was hoping that's what Gin went to Toranaga for. To offer some tactical aid.
"With one stick of time I'm going to tell you how we're going to win this bitch and you'll reward me with a red light district."
It's on!
In Blackthorne's case he has to learn to survive. Good motivation to pay attention and learn.
Had the same exact thought
“The Gang Goes To Japan”
Couldn’t agree more. Loaded conversations in small rooms, done well, will always be my favorite form of drama
Didn’t realize he actually responded 😂😂
Also you two need to watch Tokyo Vice!
God damn this show is insane
I want to read the book now but I don't want to spoil this masterpiece of a show lol
It's Monday!
Forky
Bahaha discord is telling. Anyway 100% to Tadanobu Asano being amazing!
My fingers!
Yabushige is probably my favorite character in this Shōgun.
i fucking knew it
Soon
I'm sad it's over. The setting, music, lighting, writing, sound, acting etc was so welcoming.
One of those shows that whispers only it exists at the moment you watch it.
My Yabushige!
What do they mean they have no story? What about history?
Man that ending was week
Toranaga spends the last 20 mins explaining what a genius he is.
The wars during the Sengoku period was fucking epic. They should do a season two and focus on that. SMH
Finally watched the finale and hmmmmmmm
Not at all and now I’m listening to all of the interviews and I feel like they can speak to it better than they produced it
I do think it’s interesting that Anjin’s role is a subversion of white savior narratives and he ended up as little more than a jester/distraction/tool
But I don’t think that was executed well either
cant tell if this is real or a really well done photoshop
