#Elemental

I really wish we got more of the different element's worlds
I really thought Clod would have an impact based on how much they put them in marketing stuff
Felt like an add on to be able to showcase the four elements for honing in on the 4 elements thing
I wasn't expecting to be all teary eyed before Elemental even played lmao
That short got me
Hoping to see it this weekend
Wait, is it out this weekend?
Ye, came out today
I was totally expecting a love story given those trailers
Also CARL AND DUG
Also Wade’s use of the word sibling might mean his sibling might be genderqueer in some way even if he ended up using the pronoun “her” afterward
Man they could’ve gotten so many people to watch it on the whole immigrant story thing but they had to market the stupid forbidden love trope
Trailers 100% conveyed romance. I didn't even know about the immigrant aspect until a couple days ago.
There is a romance aspect but her entire backstory is that her parents immigrated over for a better life and her entire motivation is to make her dad proud
Which really should've been in the trailers
It’s not even a rebellion thing
Like we get in other stories
They fall in love bc he tries to help her fix the thing
Also racism
Twitter has been talking about the immigration element / segregated neighborhoods / racism for awhile, tbh. There was a whole thread about the fence scene that is in the trailers. So some people were paying attention at least but definitely glossed over in the trailers
Wish disney would get their marketing together ZzzzZzzzz
Maybe seeing soon? Idk TBD
Yeah, I saw so much about this early on too.
Is the short any good?
it's very cute
also feelings
lots of feelings
as in carl ||talks to his picture of ellie before going on his date basically informing her/asking permission||
About an hour in. There’s romance between the 2 main characters. Though there was romance in Bug’s Life with Flick and Princess Anna, I loved Bug’s Life because they had bigger bugs to fight the mean grasshoppers. Wall-E has romance too (Waaaaaaaleeeeee, Eeeeeevaaaaa) and I was rooting for Wall-E!
I wish I can rewatch Up on the big screen. I love Carl and Dug.
Shorts gonna make me cry I knew it.
Happy Pride!

!knewit
I’m not crying you’re crying
well now that i know the different subtext i’m kind of interested
maybe i’ll watch it on discount tuesday
Definitely agree that this movie was marketed horribly. It’s a good movie! I went in expecting it to rank pretty low on my Pixar list but I definitely think it’s near the top for me.
Also two notes about the Up short. Instant eye wetting as soon as the melody for the Up theme started towards the end and I really want that Kevin and babies wind turbine fan thing on his roof.
Every time I hear the stupid commercial on Spotify, it pisses me off, it’s so misleading
No
I really liked this
Wooo, my 900 DMI points from my 3 Elemental Dolby Cinema tickets came in!
I had to contact DMI chat support because Fandango didn’t work automatically, though it took 30 minutes to get it sorted out.
Nice
That was really damn good
Teared up twice and my boyfriend looked at me every time wade was crying
I felt so seen
I’m obsessed with Pixar’s marketing strategy with Elemental. Why did they think Clod was going to be a breakout character. Why did they create fake a theatre audience treating him as the best part of the movie for their Instagram and Twitter ads
10981
1030
They deleted that post from their Instagram. I remember seeing it there, now it’s gone.
It reeked of desperation.
+clap play up the immigrant story you cowards
No wait I forgot that bot isn’t in these channels lmao
About to rewatch it. That and Carl and Dug short!
its really sad because with better marketing this movie could have been a hit
the trailers make it look like a generic love story but theres a lot more depth to it than that
The marketing was so misguided.
lightyear also had some bad marketing because it really didn't properly communicate that it was the movie that inspired the buzz lightyear toy
and elemental has now ended up with an even worse opening
i think it was the lowest opening in pixar history or something?
I feel like Lightyear's marketing was bad, but not on this level, honestly.
oh for sure the marketing on this movie was even worse which makes no sense
like didn't they learn ANYTHING from lightyear??
and then after Elio next year we get sequel after sequel
hate to be negative but i kinda think elio is gonna flop
oh same
it sounds like such a fun movie and i'm really excited for it but there's a VERY low chance of it not flopping
I liked it more on my rewatch. I felt very sad when Ember lied to Wade that she didn’t love him.
i feel like they're gonna take the wrong lesson from this
elio looks awful
and we're gonna be stuck with toy story sequels forever and not these thoughtful original pieces from pixar
either that or they're just gonna get less budget and stuck doing stuff for d+
i think they're at 50%
I don't think we've seen enough to make a judgement on Elio. Design wise it looks like they're carrying over the general look from Turning Red which is a nice change compared to the general look they helped pioneer.
1 time - wall-e
idk man, pixar needs to get less garbage at marketing
Marketing is going to be a key thing because yeah, they've been garbage.
That 50% will become 67%
And let’s be honest. The best parts of Wall-E is earth part.
This is my main fear. Pixar has made so many great original films but if Elio flops original films may start just going back to damn D+ which is probably what caused many of Pixar’s issues getting people into the theatre in the first place. Slashing budgets is also a big potential issue
Toy Story 4 was a perfect ending imo
I think thats more likely tbh. Pixar will become D+ fodder, we’ll get 3 Pixar’s every 2 years or so like now, one big budget sequel, one original film going to D+ and one wild card thats either depending on moods.
Is Pixar’s marketing team just the overall Disney [movie] company one or are they separate? Bc conspiracy theory: that’s exactly what Disney wants
You know I kinda wonder if when they restructured things not that many years ago they combined marketing teams.
They need to fire everyone behind Elemental’s marketing
Pixar is probably my favorite studio next to WDAS, and they have a legacy of making all these astonishing films visually and story-wise. I pray that Disney won’t let Pixar’s talent go to waste on low budget D+ originals
I think they could benefit from doing some theatrical films on a slightly lower budget, seeing that films like Across the Spiderverse are more like a 100 million budget.
Spider verse’s animation team was overworked and underpaid lmao
And also outsourced to Canada I believe
Yup
Sony maintains a studio in Vancouver to take advantage of tax breaks(Disney animation recently took advantage of this too). Pixar tried it and gave up within a couple years.
Sony might also outsource to other studios outside it’s own for animation based on something I heard from another industry person. Can’t confirm that though
Talking with a coworker and we both feel Pixar has maybe become an example of too many cooks in the kitchen with their story trust at this point. Since Lasseter was rightfully removed they’ve been more hit and miss I feel.
When was Lasseter removed again, I really think the hit and miss predates him being booted.
I don’t remember off hand but it could’ve predated that in which case I’d say it’s more of too many cooks in the story trust trying to all guide the story.
ah okay that makes sense then
I really do think Pixar has had a great start to the 2020s with Soul, Luca, and Turning Red. I think the primary issue is that putting excellent Pixar films straight on Disney+ just really damaged their ability to get people in the theatre
Pixar isn’t making bad films(most of the time) but they’re suffering from a damaged ability to get people in the theaters and REALLY bad marketing
So Lasseter left fully 2018 but really 2017. I personally put the hit or miss mark for Pixar starting in 2011 with Cars 2. Everything prior to that is good to great, theres 11 films from Toy Story to Toy Story 3, all of them asides from original Cars film have 90%+ on RT, in the next 11 films, Cars 2 to Onward, only 5 have 90%+ RT (Inside Out, Finding Dory, Coco, Incredibles 2, and Toy Story 4), 2 films got 80%+ (Monsters Uni and Onward), and the other 4 were below 80%, with of course Cars 2 being the lowest at 40%.
Now if we look at the (overlapping with the second) sample set of the last 11 films so Finding Dory to Elemental, we have 7 with 90%+ RT, (the last 4 from the previous list as well as all three, yes all three, of the D+ Pixar’s, Soul, Luca, and Turning Red). The other 4 are however the second worst by RT and 4th and 5th worst by RT of all of them (Cars 3, Lightyear, and Elemental respectively).
I do think that in a sense if Inside Out 2 and Toy Story 5 get a lot of people into the theater then more people will go to see the next original Pixar films, but that assumes that the sequels will be good enough to restore their reputation and get people back in the theater
RT isn’t a great criteria for sure, but I think we are just seeing a bit of what made Pixar so great early on, which was the time they gave their films. It took them 16 years to release their first 11 films, the next 11 came out in a 10 year span.
Pixar has had way more mediocre movies 2011 and after than films before 2010, though at the same time Pixar set an insanely high bar for themselves to meet
Yeah thats the summary of it.
I need sad man Wade painting merch to be a thing
Which sound tracks are your favorites in this movie?
I'm very partial to all the Indian inspired music
Carl and dug already got my tears before the actual movie lmfao
I liked this movie, the marketing team is really dogshit at marketing
It’s a fantastic movie and doesn’t deserve to be doing as bad as it is in the box office
Yeah they really did a disservice to this movie
Soundtrack was good
And when they touched internally i was screaming
It would’ve been cool to see more of the other elements
The only Earth content we got was of Clod and even that was only like 30 seconds of content
At least Gale had some scenes for air/clouds
Wasn’t the guy she tried to appeal to for the tickets an earth dude?
Air ball was cool
Fern Grouchwood apparently
Clod is so recognizable with his zoomer ass haircut
proceeds to not listen to anything else other than Steal the Show for the next week
ITS GOOD
SO FUCKING GOOD!!
Applauding for Joe Pera’s 30 second cameo like he’s Andrew Garfield in No Way Home
(He was Fern)
Instantly recognizable voice
Exact same comedic timing
Love that guy
But that was really sweet it’s my favorite Pixar since Coco (still haven’t seen Turning Red)
I’m watching it for a 3rd time tomorrow with a friend!
And to think I cancelled my opening night ticket as soon as I saw Cannes reviews. (I rebooked it weeks later for opening day).
I'm still mad at myself I didn't bother doing Thursday before release like I usually do
it looked terrible because the marketing might as well have been done by 5 year olds
you can tell it’s good because it flopped and then word of mouth was so good it started picking up enough money internationally to beat the flash
Why did it get middling reviews? I liked it a lot more than Brave (sorry Brave fans, I do like their music if it’s any consolation).
don't know tbh, and yes I also like it more than Brave
it's definitely one of my favorites so far honestly
nah, i love merida herself and the animation was cool but the story was a little meh
Brave feels like the most properly rated Pixar film, I know a few people who love it, but most people are just like “yeah its fine”.
Saw this 3 times. Now I want to rewatch Up again!
Opening of Up is so sad
This was so cute. I really enjoyed it
This Summer, meet the residents of Element City
Experience Disney and Pixar’s #Elemental in 3D, only on the big screen June 16!
Disney and Pixar’s “Elemental,” an all-new, original feature film set in Element City, is where fire-, water-, land- and air-residents live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young w...

Me too, Wade
Yeah, that article has a nice hot take about Lasseter
I watched the music video and got the fuzzies again
That’s why I didn’t share it
Oh yeah that article is yikes
I still haven’t even read it. I’ve heard that he’s a menace for that tough love approach at sky dance now
the rest of the article is fine, but lasseter is a shit person
pete docter did an excellent job on Soul, i don't think that him being a kinder person affects the quality of films negatively
It really depends. He could be the kind of person to have a solid vision for their own project and then get misguided when it’s helping others on theirs. This could also be the story trust suffering too many cooks in the kitchen syndrome
yeah that's fair
That was adorable. Some plot issues but a fun film all in alll
Funniest moment though “how did he melt, water doesn’t melt” - Kid behind me who hasn’t learned about evaporation yet
Also I knew they wouldn’t kill him yet I still fucking cried, so nice work Pixar.
The characters, animation, and vibe of the film make up for the lackluster plot and weird pacing.
second time through I would tear up anytime Wade would start crying like wtf
Or TS3
Evil
hell even Onward
I don’t know where I’m ranking this for year yet.
I'm glad you can rank yours because I can't remember what I watched 2 months ago
I mean I keep track with letterboxd religiously
