Partially because it is easy to not notice / realise that divorce is possible, and partially to allow for follower polygamy, which would be an excellent idea || cough Kallamar cough ||
Therefore, I think that would be a good idea to create a separate ritual for divorce, instead of using the marriage ritual for both — perhaps unlocking the latter after using the marriage ritual for the first time?

YOU CAN DIVORCE FOLLOWERS?
Yes, by using marriage ritual and selecting a married follower
And THIS is (part of) why I made the suggestion - because it is so unintuitive!
Follower Polyamory would probably be a pain in the ass to code
Im sure it would be a thing otherwise
Making it be stable even more so
I HAD NO IDEA YOU COULD DIVORCE FOLLOWERS
The followers already have Poly trait though, and makes themselves lovers to the left and right the moment you look another way.
Surely there has to be a way to connect the already existing poly trait with multiple marriages being allowed?
True
good to know but is there a down side to divorcing followers
Faith loss, aside from that unsure, cannot recall and not currently unable to test, apologies!
Slight faith loss, happily married trait gets removed
Otherwise no
the divorced follower/s can dissent sometimes
also gives them a trait where you can't order them to do anything since they're mad about the divorce
