#I think it would be cool to have disabled followers

I got this idea
So
Some followers would be unable to walk
So they would just have to crawl around (like much slower than the regular followers )
And you would have to make some sort of wheelchair for them
You get it
this seems wrong
Why?
I’m disabled I thought it would be cool to have in game rep :))
As an add on to this, there could be disability stuff with the bishops, like leshy describing what his crown did for him, and you being able to get him mobility aids that function similar, or making heket a text to speech thing.
really good idea inclusivity is always a win but i don’t know if there’s really a logical reason to why they would appear in universe.
since the game takes place in a more wildlife-ish world, animals with disabilities wouldnt really survive that often. especially when there’s cultists running around that can shoot fireballs out of their ass.
maybe they could specifically come only from eggs and/or helob?
What do the hands mean?
What if followers you sent on missionary's could come back disabled
that’s an idea!
I still stay the bishops are disabled and stay disabled,
But yeah, disabled followers in general sounds awesome!
this is repackaged ableism just ftr. these are talking animals that live in a cult, some of them being disabled isn't going to ruin suspension of disbelief or need a "logical" reason to happen.
I don't fully understand why disabled followers would be seen as a "bad" thing or a not positive thing.
The bishops are disabled. So why can't there be more disabled followers?
Sorry, just confused
Just to clarify — there’s really no reason to call me ableist here. I’m speaking strictly from an in-universe perspective. Before the animals are indoctrinated into the cult, they’re essentially in the wild being hunted by cultists and literal demons. Realistically, most wouldn't survive long enough to become followers if they had visible disabilities — that’s just how the game world is set up.
Once they’re in the cult? Totally different story. I literally said that disabled followers make sense in that context, and even suggested possible lore-consistent ways they could be introduced. So no, I wasn’t arguing against representation. just pointing out a gap in the idea that could be thought about.
I get that they’re talking animals in robes, but even absurd worlds can have internal logic. If caring about that is ableism now, then I guess the bar has really shifted.
I said it was ableism repackaged because you were being ableist.
Did you know that when the first humans existed, some with disabilities were still around? And they were cared for by their tribes? Back when we had to hunt for survival and were nomadic, before we had cars and real hospitals? If what are essentially cavemen could figure out a sled for an old man with arthritis so he could stay with the group, I think its possible for disabled cultists to survive in a harsh world.
I don't doubt some would die, but they wouldn't all die. And finding them in the wild could be possible.
Your logic is what is the problem, not the questions you ask. You think it's not possible for disabled people to survive because you've not thought of it in a way where you can see other people helping them because they care rather than out of obligation.
I'm also not saying they can't be gotten from Helob or eggs, I just think saying they could NEVER be found in the wild is what my problem is. Also disabled animals do exist in the wild as well, either through human means or just natural.
Saying they couldn't survive or that its not possible because they have a disability is the issue.
Disabilities in people and animals have existed since we came into being, and we are still here.
i didn’t mean to say they could NEVER be found and for that i’m sorry. i just meant they wouldn’t do as well, that’s on me, and you’re right so im sorry. some would survive but not all of them which i think could be turned into a cool implementation as a whole, pilgrim corpses (i believe they’re called pilgrims if not indoctrinated). you calling me ableist just really set me off especially being (technically) disabled myself💀 but i think i just didn’t know that ableism wasn’t specific to saying “all disabled people are bad” which is really stupid of me
I apologize for coming at you so hard initially, I'm also disabled and have been fighting a lot of medical professionals about it over the years.
yeah mb. hope you’re doing well about it now tho. mines isn’t that bad, only 1.5 missing fingers💀
I'm in a much better place with better doctors lol, it has been a difficult journey. peace and love for you, bud 💖
oh boy, after leaving for 5-6 days, time to come back to suggestions and see-
What the fu-
Suggested stuff:
Maybe you have to use gold as a material component in assistive technology (like, conducting electrical charge in hekets communications device) would also work logically because the propaganda speakers require gold.
Then again, it would give players a reason not to make assistive technology for followers, so not sure how good of an idea it is
Oh and would hearing aids work for Kalamar, because it's written like narinder "ripped them off" as in, violent slashing damage, implies reconstruction near impossible. While that doesn't make hearing aids impossible, if the damage was to, like, the internal hearing stuff, not just the external cartrlidge, like a funnel. So, maybe?
Anyway, point is, how cool would working out the aids components be? 🙂
Here's hekets response to getting it
(narinders voice being the one who's recorded, hence the statement)
Hope this is ok
dude
For me it's two things Austim flag and or pride flags in game
What?
People would legit just murder those followers
Jesus I didn’t realize there was people talking here-
Well, yeah a lot of people might. It’s representation for some and a free sacrifice for others. I just thought it would be fun because I myself am disabled. Could be like a DLC thing
yes so much that would be awsome!
like, the crown flags but recoloured to be pride/autism?
100% behind you on this. after all, old people exist in real life and get killed in game, people who opperate better at night, or dont want sex, or rather like sex, all of those things have representation in game and all can be murdered. it's, like, the games version of accsessability: "everyone can die" but also "death is not final" if it exists as a follower you can kill it and the game rewards you for killing stuff. yet i'd wager that most peoples initail reaction to getting the sacrifice ritual is "i'd never!"
sorry, got a bit ramble-y. my point is, when you have to put effort into things not dying, why should "it'll die" mean "don't do it"?
Yes!!! You get it!
Sorry
thanks! this stuffs just important to me!
now i'm just imagining the bishops having diffrent thoughts towards disabled followers. like, based on their own stuff
like, heket having thoughts along the lines of "(saw silenced follower) i'd tell you it gets better if i could tell you anything at all"
Was thinking the other day maybe followers with disabilities may have other perks that may stop players from just absolutely murking them (for no reason)
Smth smth Where one skill fails another flourishes
Maybe Followers with missing legs move slower (via crutch animation) but like one suggested here, upgrading them and giving them better mobility aids could be a perk for movement
Until then despite being slow in movement maybe their faster in less physically-demanding tasks (Cooking, Worship, Knucklebones, Refinery, Maybe even Disciple work)
Deaf followers wont join you when inspiring/blessing/intimidating others due to poor hearing and are uneffected by propaganda speakers but have a higher chance of a bigger haul when gathering resources
Blind followers can pretty much operate almost the same as any other follower unless its precision-based tasks(?) Like Cooking and the only thing stopping them would probably be if you move, add, or destroy buildings bc that might throw them off
-# Tbf Disability followers would be interesting bc they might help provide new features for all followers. Reminder that the typewriter was invented for blind people, and today texting can be considered a descendant of such invention
What if Blind or followers with impaired vision pray at random areas in the cult (because they cant see properly) and you can gain devotion from them every day
The amount of devotion depends on the follower's loyalty
Something i thought of that would not only add onto this based off of history but also due to the new dlc is
If theres followers that might need to amputate a limb due to frostbite you could add in a barber shop
Just for historical reference
-# and to give our followers the luxurious cuts they deserve/j
yeah! (sorry, not sure if excitement is the right tone for that)
You get free medical care historical lesson and a low taper fade
-# maybe so its not completely useless in a medical context it can double as a secondary health bay thats somewhat automatic where a follower assigned to work there can deal with sick followers (unless theyre like- cursed or catonic)
Just Imagine A Wheelchair Ramp At Those Stairs At The Top Of Your Cult.
just imagine all the followers running together to collectively build the ramp, and they all smiling and its just this moment of unity? i dunno, i can picture it so clearly and it looks nice
Would be cool if I could attach rockets to wheelchair to make the follower go superfast and then give him a ramp to be entertainment
A few times when I’ve
Read Leshy’s mind he’s complaint about the random objects he keeps bumping into(implying think a certain amount of disorganisation in the cult which wouldn’t help a blind bishop)
hey re-read this and got some more thoughts
what if the disability stuff had it's own skill tree type thing? like, by talking to disabled followers, you get points in the meter, and the diffrent unlocks are basically "you understand the needs better and can help more effectively" like, wheelchairs upgrading to go from "movie wheelchair" to "actual wheelchair designed for long term use and user independance"
I did spit the other day followers hugging a follower who was terrified by the mission. Haven’t seen that before but will keep an eye out
we did it
Not just leshy
But also another uniqe follower has it too
||the exicutioner also has the trait too if you choose to let her into the cult||
thats true! i forgot about that!
we do? their name are leshy and hagar. you can count in heket, kalamar and shamura too
this post was made before woolhaven + as an actual game mechanic, rather than a single trait and two lines of dialogue
also the ideas suggested afterwards were moreso about how to care for/look after and utalise disability specific mechanics
oh, and for more variations of diasabled, leshy and hagar are both blind because of the physical loss of their eyes.
(no shame/hate to the developers, love that you added them at all! just explaining the diffrences between the in game implimentation and the core of this suggestion thread)
Spoke to my dad about this thread and he suggested lil guide dogs.
Imagine being able to train up ranch animals into service animals
Thats actually so goated
I know!
I was considering, like, support yakish
With a lil jacket like service dogs get
Maybe if anything that ALSO adds a mechanic for ranch animals to be trainable in general
Service dogs, protective ranch animals against wolf raids (like sheep dogs), ranch animals that can cure catatonic followers (like therapy/emotional support pets)
All sounds amazing!
Id really love to see at the very least the service ranchimals, hopefully we get to see all of the really nice disability rep eventually too <3 I'm somewhat disabled myself, just mental health shit and some sort of ghost joint condition that I apparently don't have-
We do have a healing tent to cure stuff
yea but you cant really cure disabilitie
anyway this idea is awesome andneeds to be added 10000000%
That would be so cool
There could be necklaces you can give to disabled followers that mark them as disabled (like the sunflower lanyard) and it basically means they get jobs done faster because other followers are aware of their additional needs?
Dunno if I'm phrasing it right. Just, like
"Hey, can you move this thing?"
"Can't you just step over-" (sees necklace) "-um, yeah, sure."
"Thanks!"
Awww that would be so cool!!!
