What kind of structures could be built underground? Shelters, probably, but there's going to need to be some source of light down there. Pretty sure the coward trait followers won't go down there otherwise. Farm plots are probably not going to work for the most part.

Odds are we are going to have to baby-proof the underground in case they somehow get in there. Probably going to need to have some sort of blanket-fort style building because babies will likely get extra scared in the underground darkness. Also, we may need to have some sort of ladder or elevator to make sure that followers won't accidentally fall down and get hurt. Unless you want that for a game mechanic.

Really, I think the hard part for this idea is how to get the followers to consistently move from surface to underground and back again. I figure if they stay down there too long, they will start to crave the sunlight and eventually head back up again or get faith loss (not counting traits). Maybe a new mechanic for that.

If pools were added to the game, the shovel would play the main role, as with a shovel you could dig a hole where a pool could be placed. Depending on how deep you dug, you could create three types of pools: children's (only for kids, which would increase their level), normal (a standard pool for regular followers), and deep (where followers could dive, gaining more levels, but with a higher risk of drowning). Why did I write this? It's simple – it's hard to find any use for the shovel, and the idea I came up with seems to me to be one of the better ones.

Hell, make it so all equipment that are not weapons can be leveled up from use. Not only the broom, and also the shovel, but let's not forget the pickax, the ax, the fishing pole, the bug net, and maybe even the watering can!
