I've run into basically the same issue (albeit without the weird X) in every zone except Darkwood. Can't make any story progress. I thought maybe it was the mods I was using, but perhaps not.

Not only have I gotten stuck, but when I try to backtrack to hopefully refresh the room, it spits me out in an empty/cleared room where the doors don't work, often in the opposite direction of where the original door was facing, and on at least one occasion out of bounds.

Does that require the API? If so, they're updating it to fix that bug

@real cliff Since you know a bit about cotl api

It's preventing me from seeing followers in the healing bay. It use to work if I switched the debug option on and off, but suddenly stopped and I cannot see any followers when i click on healing bay. It is black and says 0/0

Know how to fix that?
