I just restarted rq to check my other save and it disappeared, but it'll reappear. Idk what triggers it to pop up but I'll try and take note when it does

I've noticed it appears for me on Switch, but only if I switch performance mode on or off - it disappears after reset

I've never switched performance mode, but it definitely seems to only appear when I start up the game. Sometimes it'll appear and other times it wont. Nothing really seems to trigger it to happen aside from starting up the game.

this happened to me too! started a new save, slept a night then the shadow appears and i turned off performance mode: the shadow was gone, turned it back on and the shadow returned!
