So for the idea of Shamura, I came down to the idea of him being this “Sullen broken man” due to his past having mental issues on him, and narinder but whatever.

I wanted him to be spoken of rarely, and I thought “He” just fit what I was going for, and I changed Kallamar to be a They instead so I thought swapping things would make it fun and I thought things would fit.

But I guess not

I can understand how misgendering someone, fictional or not, is insensitive - and we don't really condone doing so here when discussing the characters as they're supposed to be portrayed as in their intended setting.

However, as what creative freedom would righteously allow, everyone is free to write characters in their own way as they see fit, in their AU stories. It is true, many artists have changed the genders of characters, and whatever reason they may have in doing so truly is their own business and right to do it.

That said, I also think it is important to ensure that when referring to an AU that does something like change the personaly/story/gender/etc. of any character from their original origin, you always make note that you are referring to said characters in a specific AU - as otherwise people may think you are misgendering them.

Not every AU or story will align with your expectations, and that's ok! Just understand that people have a right to express their artistic freedom as long as they are not intentionally trying to disrespect anyone, and I really don't think Geek is trying to harm anyone here.

I hope this makes sense you guys, I know it's a pretty sensitive topic, but I don't think it's worth digging deeper into the logic of the why or how, it's best to take it how it is and if it's not a story you're interested in, best to just leave well enough alone. :)

In my opinion, I think anyone who grows up feeling they are non-binary has every right to realize they may be cis gendered.

To block anyone from having the freedom to feel that way, in of itself, just doesn't sound right to me.

This should have nothing to do with erasure and if you take it in that way, that is simply the way you see it and like I said, if you don't like how some stories end up the way you like, you shouldn't bother yourself with it and move on.

I want to apologize as admittedly no, this did not make sense at the time, but after having a deeper internal discussion with one of my peers, I completely understand what you meant by this, and I am genuinely sorry I was not able to fully understand.

My stance was trying to encourage equality among everyone involved, but I failed to adhere to what is more important in this instance: equity.
Given the world we live in, and knowing what I know now, it is in my most professional opinion that when it comes to people who identify as a minority, fictional or not, it would be most righteous to retain their identity for the sake of helping ensure inclusivity out of consideration.

With that said, if I may humbly and respectfully suggest, @jolly cosmos, I think it would be best to uphold the identity of non-binary characters such as Shamura when creating and writing an AU/story.
