Why not a grass farm like a gardern? (Different than the normal crop farm). Or how about making weeds appear in farm plots that aren't used often, and removing them gives you grass? Or create grass seeds?
All three are good ideas imo, my favorite being the simple weeds on empty farm plots. Passive grass income that scales with the size of your farm

I wonder if an even simpler implementation would be adding grass to the loot tables of all farm items, as a rare reward.
That could work as well. Most players would have 2-4 farms (will all farm plots filled in), so make a decent chance and that would help with grass
