There's no good way to compare these two things because unlike hot and cold which are fairly objective measurements with no outward bearing on anything, the intersection of sexuality and gender in fact does. I'll stop discussing this because Bees thread shouldnt be overtaken by this, but the label of "straight" by definition imposes a binary gender identity and your explanation is not to far off from a "its just a joke" excuse, regardless of your intention it is dismissing the impact of the things you are saying when you are being told them.
